Sooo adorable.
I want off the ride....
Anyone mocking the ustream producer program needs to use the full quicktime with it; i have been using it and problems have stemmed from the program at all. no failures, no muck ups nothing...

Thats all i'm going to say.

ffvi is up on the schedule.

And I'd rather eat crow then install Apple Quicktime.  The program is more obnoxious then flash popup ads on the internet.  I'll use QT Lite, but that's it.

I'm not not using it because it's crashing, I'm not using it because it doesn't offer anything compelling over FME and in fact has fewer interesting (to me) features unless I pay $199 for it.

Also it looks like it was thrown together in about a week with baby's first gui toolkit.
I want off the ride....
for some stupid reason FME doesn't wanna work for me; so I donno.. I try to load it and it up and vanishes for me.. So if someone can help me with that i'd probably switch but until then.. I go with what works Sad

Best news I've heard all day.

ff6 has been available for over 2 weeks now. Wink
gamelogs.org
think this is a different, final version (better quality maybe?). otherwise it would have been on the schedule 2 weeks ago. Tongue

I just thought that archive was being a doodoo head and wouldn't let nate upload the file for whatever reason.
gamelogs.org
yeah dunno. maybe it was due to his shit connection.
Exoray
The run was available from a temporary link that nate set up so that people who couldn't wait for archive to accept it could get ahold of it earlier.
The problem with archive as I understood it was that the filesize of the FFVI video was bigger than their max size limit.
nah, it was that i tried to get creative and use multiple operating systems and browsers to upload more files at once. some browsers under some operating systems exhibit different behavior with the archive flash uploader, which you are now forced to use if the item already exists when you check it out. i don't remember exactly now, but i believe i got far fewer aborted uploads using firefox for mac, but i couldn't upload files larger than a few hundred meg unless i used ie for windows.

anyway, i was doing this, and it corrupted the item's metadata, so i had to regenerate the metadata to upload more files (ff6). unfortunately the only way to do that is to rederive the item, which for a 50-60 hour item took i guess 10-11 days. if you don't know what derivation is that seems strange but it's because they're encoding different versions of the videos i uploaded using 10-15 year old pc hardware and most likely unoptimized software. one of the versions is ogg video so you can view the videos in firefox using the <video> tag without flash (since firefox doesn't support h.264).

once that derivation completed i could successfully upload the last part because the metadata was no longer corrupt. then i had to start it deriving once again in order to get the derivations of ff6 (no way to say just derive ff6 afaik). that's been running for 5.6 days and probably has at least a week to go.

the funny thing about all of this that i realized when i was finally uploading ff6 was that i decided to use archive and not dl because i was really sleep deprived the day after the marathon ended and i saw the size estimate for an hq encoding of the marathon and thought it was the mq estimate, and we don't have that much space to spare on dl right now. so i thought ok, it'll have to be archive-only. but the truth is we could have served it from dl (like i ended up doing for ff6) and just forgotten about archive entirely.

oh well.
Sup!
I really hope I'm not asking for much, but is it possible for those that have downloaded the torrent file so seed?
There are only 2 seeds online at the moment and it's going pretty slow.

If its impossible, that is fine, ill just have to wait the 2d16h left.
For those that are currently or about to seed, thank you very much (in advance)!
probably faster to just download each file individually. it's a bit more effort but it'll probably get you what you want faster.
Sup!
It is quite faster.
I totally forgot i had to "Save target As" to download each file.

utorrent shows 8 seeds for me and I've got 31.3 GB uploaded so far. dunno bout other peeps

Unofficial SDA Marathon Awards Ceremony

Basically a few humourous awards I came up with off the top of my head (with assistance from Mike and UraniumAnchor in the chat).

The "I'm so terrible" award: Andrew Gardikis... gee, how terrible was CV1, eh?
The "Sinner and Saint" award: Freddy Andersson. The name for the award is inspired by a piece of commentary from the chat during MMX2 after Freddy took his shirt off... I believe the quote was "Freddy, you do realise that taking your shirt off for charity makes you a prostitute and a saint at the same time?"
The "Revenge of the Knee" award: sinister1 - bonus points because this was constantly being repeated in commentary
The "Serious Time" award: Mike Uyama. No man has ever or will ever be that serious.
The "I have no taste in music" award: Jeff Feasel. Anyone with any sense would have played Lolo on mute!
The "Under Control" award: Kareshi, even though he very much did not have Kung Fu under control Wink
The Marc J. Dzsomethingski Award for Overcoming Adversity: I hope this becomes an annual award, but obviously the inaugural winner is Emptyeye. Never mind the real adversity this guy has overcome in his life, the guy beat TMNT under 30 minutes... or a game vaguely resembling it, anyway!
The "Failing to live up to his name" award: RaneofSOTN. I don't know what a rane is exactly, but I bet whatever a rane does he wasn't doing that either.
The "ThaMan" award: Breakdown, for coining SDA's newest meme. Who said we weren't going to do any memes before we reached $9000 anyway?
The "Best British accent" award: mike89. Alternate names for this award: worst Australian accent, best New Zealand accent, the list goes on...
The "speedrunning versatility" award: romscout. romscout did three runs at CGDQ: one took two minutes, one 45 minutes, and one 4.5 hours. If that's not versatility I don't know what is.
The "hotel shuttle" award: Tim Peters. I wonder how much of the marathon he actually got to watch as it happened...
The "best singing voice" award: Essentia... sorry Mike Wink
The "showman" award: Tri-hex... for putting on an amazing show with Yoshi's Island, then continuing his showing off even while asleep!

And a handful of serious ones too:
MVP: This is a really tough one because pretty much every runner was completely awesome. Freddy is obviously a serious contender, as well as Tim and Essentia, but I can't go past Emptyeye for the amazing double-whammy of Battletoads and Teenage Mutant Glitchy Turtles.
Best run technically: Well, River City Ransom, Link's Awakening and DKC2 were the SDA record-beating runs, so I guess it's out of these three. I think LA was the cleanest of the three, so I'm going with that.
Most entertaining speedrun: Yoshi's Island. No contest. tri-hex not only did a great job of playing up the crowd, he actually did a quality speedrun (about ten minutes away from his SDA run, I believe).
Most entertaining commentary: Lots and lots of candidates here, but I think I'm going to defer to Mike's judgment and say FF6. We had pretty much everyone providing input, and who could go past the opera scene?
Most informative commentary: I think Tim did a really good job of this, providing lots of in-depth commentary on DKC and other games he was familiar with, and when he was less familiar (eg. Yoshi's Island) he would encourage the runner to be informative.
Worst luck in a run: Freddy's Metroid run. I think I counted something in the order of 16 separate Metroids killed on the first run through Tourian, none of which gave a missile drop.
Best luck in a run: The Jackal run, hitting the 120k extra life -just- before losing what would otherwise have been Breakdown's last life. It was so close that the music stopped as though it were a game over!

I've got more coming, I'll add to this later.
Highly Evolved
I do believe I was one of the few in the forefront in continuing the British Mike theme.

And yes, I will try to avoid the bludgeoning.
Monster Tale was a good game
I wasn't reading the thread at all, but...

Is there a torrent of these? because the download likes to "finish" before it acutally... uh... finishes (meaning is stops at a lower file size then what is intended)

That's right I got ya covered.

Just thought of something that could be fun to see next time.

A Sonic 2 race... with a minor twist.
One experienced Sonic 2 runner racing a non-Sonic runner that can activate Super Sonic.
The benefit of Super Sonic could potentially outweigh the skill and consistency of the experienced runner.
By non-Sonic runner I mean someone who's still decently at playing/running it but not on the same level as mike89 or stanski for instance.

This may end up not being interesting at all depending on if decent 50-ring routes can be worked out by the non-experienced runner or not and if this twist would be balanced enough.

Even better would be to have a race between two runners of equal skill that both can activate Super Sonic. Would show some interesting routes that we're not used to seeing.
