Today's the final day for rearranging the schedule, if anyone has any problems with the google spreadsheet (the website hasn't been updated yet), speak up now, otherwise I'm just going to tell ark to update the website.
I don't think there will be any Double Dragon RaneofSOTN, sorry.
BTW, does anyone mind if we use their laptop for the marathon (looking at the chat and using the chipin to read comments and give out prizes)? I would use mine, but it's been making this really loud, annoying buzzing sound (it's fine though) and ustream eventually makes my firefox crash.
Other equipment that would be nice for the marathon:
-A spare capture device (we'll need one for the Kung Fu three-way race) -A spare projector (for Kung-Fu three-way race, if there is enough space) -Possibly spare a/v cables
Just letting people know that I'm going to stream some practice runs tomorrow (Dec. 28), starting around 11am MST (1pm EST). This will be the last day I can really practice, since I'm flying to Washington DC the next day, so I'm hoping to get a lot of practice in. I'll definitely be playing Dr. Mario and DKC2, and possibly some FF6. BTW, I had a dream about the charity marathon last night - I hope the real thing goes better than it did in my dream.
I have a USB Captur divise (Composite to USB) with have a to bad quality for SDA but maby for usestream I can bring this as backup or something like that.
Contra: Hard Corps: Just don't be an idiot with the final boss and I'll be fine.
Contra III: I always seem to manage to die somewhere, but I never have a problem finishing this game. I'm good to go (though I should practice the final stage a bit so I don't bomb and collect the homing like I did).
Gunstar Heroes: This is honestly a piece of cake, but hate hate HATE the dice palace.
Altered Beast: No problems here.
TMNT 4: It would be nice if I could tighten this up a bit, but honestly I'm fine (pulled off a no death run today).
MMX3: Okay, I'm doing better, but still not quite good enough. I just need to get some more practice in (should have some time tomorrow) and work on execution and consistency. Also, I hate Kaiser Sigma.
Very sorry I've been inactive. I'm also sorry everyone for not getting around to the dumb (I'm admitting it was silly to hold everything back photo-wise) super commentary thing about MAGFest 2009 before this year's coming events. *checks most recent schedule* I'm also a little disappointed about seeing the Mario game segments going on so late (especially me at 12:30 AM). I understand I'm only playing 1 game versus many others who have more complicated schedules to accommodate, so it's not a big deal. Just wish I had more people to check me out.
Yoshi's Island SS (est. time: sub 2 hours):
Apologies aside. I've practiced about 10 times for full single-segments so far. I plan to really crack down and dedicate at least 3 hours each day to Yoshi's Island between now and January 3rd. I haven't timed an attempt yet because I would casually take breaks for hunger, toilets, or whatever. I'll get around to taking an attempt serious and get an accurate time.
As of right now, I can be a complete cocky asshole for worlds 1 and 2 entirely. Small notes to myself such as "have less than 6 eggs for when entering 2-3 that way I'm not waiting for blank space for enemy shy-guys to spawn out of the pipe; don't fire eggs in random directions for lulz at the end of 1-7 as I'll need every egg I can get for 1-8 because it's completely devoid of profit eggs throughout; etc." are things I'm trying to make stick.
Worlds 3-6 aren't quite as flush yet. Still working on those. Don't let that worry you though, "flush" just means I'm not really blowing people away with my play. It's still very "passable."
The 1-1 warp glitch (which allows Yoshi to warp from whatever level the glitch is possible in into the last third of 1-1 and it count as completing the level the glitch originated in) will be used on 2-4, 3-1, and 4-7 during the actual speedrun.
honestly i think there will be a lot of people watching at 12:30 am, both at mag and at home. remember that's only 9:30 pm on the west coast, and many people are on winter break anyway, so they'll be up.

I wouldn't recommend doing that in a run like this, to be honest.
Tri-hex: First off, your time slot is not bad at all, lots of people will stay up past midnight because it's the weekend (you don't know gamers too well, do you?), and like Ark said, it'll be 9:30 on the West Coast. If you want, you can play SoM in my place instead, it will only be 5 and a half hours from 2-7:30 am.
Honestly, it's great that you're going to spend so much time practicing, but I'm going to give Ark the final schedule today, and unless if you can come up with a good estimate today, I'm sticking with 2 hours.
I don't know what this warp glitch is, but if it involves going back to 1-1 to complete the stage, I wouldn't use it, it would just confuse the hell out of people. I'm not saying we can't use glitches for our runs (a lot of our runs will have glitches, especially Secret of Mana), but something like that is more baffling than jaw-dropping.

Which is why I actually recommend to use it if it's explained in the commentary some. It's only 3 levels and certainly interesting from the "Hey, how does that work? It doesn't make any sense" point of view.
Alright practice results: - Castlevania - I'm absolutely horrible... will be practicing this most!!! - Mega Man - ~25 minutes on average, might improve some of my strategies a bit. I should be fine with this. - F-zero - I usually get 1st on Fire Field on master difficulty, so that's a plus. I explode on rare occasions, a stream of bad luck. - Mario 1 - ~5:20 every time, I'm not getting any mushrooms so I could die by a fluke. - Mario 2 - actually died on the last level, it's actually because of my unneeded cautiousness that I messed up. - Mario 3 - goes well, sometimes I mess up and don't get fire (good for frezy I guess ;)) - Lost Levels - went well, just need to be a bit cautious on a few levels - Super Mario World - I actually am bad at the bowser fight now... odd. - Marble Madness - 4:20 with many deaths (playing as 2 player spot), just not used to it, been a while since I played, but this will do. - Rush n' attack - haven't even played this... should be OK though - Mike Tyson's Punchout - I'm OK, I can beat this fairly quick, but I need to practice more against Mike Tyson + get some other strategies down.
What I need to practice most (for my use): - Castlevania (mainly the last 3 levels) - MTPO - Overall better strats + Mike - Rush n' Attack - gotta do a few speedruns through again.
Yiiha. 13 hours until My plain is in the air if the snowstorm is not to bad. it's -10 Celcius here right now
I wish I had some more practice on Metroid. But I will get a 30-35 Min run. I will not hope for a sub 30.
I wish I could practice some more for SMB3 no flute but at least I have the maps memorized very good but I have to take it a bit carefully on a bunch of levels. I will not get a very good run on X2 because I am not that motivated to memorize every detail again but It should be a good looking run I guess.
I hope Super C goes luckier then the other runs because I am not that good playing with the pee shooter for this game.
I could not find Kung-Fu in my cartridge-shelf anyway. So I can not bring a copy. But I remember that they had a bunch of Kung fu copies last year at the marketplace. They had a lots of Ninja T-shirt and bandanas too IIRC. So I guess we will be fine
I am curious about the weather over there. Last year Mike told me it was more warm then usually over New Year. I remember I didn´t had to use the winter-Jacket I brought. It looks like it will be colder this year, eventually snow? I couldn't find a good website for weather prognoses. Drive carefully.
