Hi. I've been around SDA and known about it for a while.  I love doing runs of Tetris Attack and have done so for the past couple years.  There has always been something that's bothered me though about SDA's treatment of the game.  For years on the page for the game, it has always said this, "Note: Runs on stage clear mode are not allowed because they make people fall asleep. " .  I have always wondered why that is there.  It sucks for me because that is my favorite category to run for the game and to not be able to see a time or even submit a run, for that matter, is very frustrating.  I can't help but feel that it is at the very least, quite unprofessional.  It's their site and they can regulate it however they want. I get that.  I would just like to know a little more behind why this is a thing.  Thanks.

P.S.  I also can't help but feel that SDA only accepting VS Mode runs has also affected the Tetris Attack community as it is hard to find runs of stage clear, in general.  Even speedrun.com's section for Tetris Attack only contains runs for vs mode on various difficulties.  This could also be entirely coincidental.  I just can't help but think that since SDA apparently only accepts runs for VS Mode that this has lead to people only caring about that category.  You might be saying, "people run categories like pacifist, damage-less, or in some way, enforce a set of rules of how to play and make it a category. SDA doesn't include those runs for those games." .  That is somewhat true, but the main difference here is that the difference between stage clear and a pacifist run is that a stage clear run is an actual gameplay mode built into the game, while pacifist is a self enforced category that is user defined, not a part of the actual game.

heh, that comment looks pretty old, likely 6-8 years since it was put on the page. Back then, the kinds of run being accepted was a bit more restricted and that comment in particular probably reflected the thoughts of the community at that time.

If stage clear has an ending and is different enough from VS mode a run of it would likely be accepted.

FWIW, the most commonly run "Stage Clear" mode in the Puzzle League series is Spa Service in Pokemon Puzzle League.
Also the Tetris Attack page on speedrun.com has a Stage Clear leaderboard - click on "Show misc categories" if you're not seeing it.
may use a few too many Kappas
Stage Clear definitely has an ending and definitely takes a different mindset to optimize from a VS COM run. VS COM emphasizes making combos & chains as fast as possible. Stage Clear emphasizes pure speed in clearing panels as fast as possible and does not require combos & chains until the very end.

I think the bad rap on Stage Clear comes from the repetitiveness in its length. VS COM V-Hard is roughly eight minutes of the same gameplay, though you have make adjustments in the latter half of the run to luck into better times. (The easier difficulties don't get that much faster per stage.) Stage Clear is roughly 20 minutes of the same gameplay that gets progressively faster and about 15 seconds of combos and chains.

Because of all that, Stage Clear is not as interesting to watch and doesn't see as much play, even in the Japanese Panel de Pon community. (That's why I labeled it as a misc. category on the Speedrun leaderboard.) It's a shame because I think Stage Clear is the better speedgame because it encourages pure speed on a greater level than VS COM.

The reason I don't do as much Stage Clear is because I don't really have the mindset to be competitive in it. That is FFRPro21's domain and I will probably never be able to compete with him.
