yes, groobo, i didnt mean it like this. it comes down to this: you would only really need the other players on a few maps, such like the cola carrier one. in most maps, they would end up killing themselves at the start. this still would mean, by SDA rules, you'd have to run every single level with the same players present, no matter if they are useful in this level or not. but isn't the philosophy of SDA "running a game as quick as possible"? the quickest possible way is using 4 other human players, even if they are not needed in some levels - they commiting suicide is quicker than killing the bots yourself anyways. so i think 4 players IL level runs would be perfectly fine with the rules, as well as keeping the playtime as low as possible.
360 ILs pretty much have to be done solo then, Swamp Fever 1 is significantly shorter with the crescendo skip using the stumble-floating glitch which has been patched out, so running the level using the glitch has to be done offline. Not sure how it works on PC.
I'm just saying. Either run all levels solo, or run all levels with a team. If, all things considered, you'd get a better overall time with the latter, then do it.

doesnt work anymore on pc, not sure if it ever did. would playing it offline to make the glitch work be legit? if so, that'd be the fastest way for sure...and would come in handy in other levels, too
I'm surprised I can't find the trick on youtube, but I will try to explain this glitch (i thought it was common). Obtain boomer bile in the first leg of the campaign. For the start of the second and any subsequent legs, one person will stand in the corner of the safe room out of sight of the door. They will throw the boomer bile anywhere inside the safe house and the other 3 people will open the door and WITHOUT KILLING ANY ZOMBIES push their way threw the huge amount of zombies and run through the level without any hordes/zombies appearing (you may find the odd one, you can kill the stragglers on the way)! Only special infected appear. The one person in the safe house will have to be sacrificed in a speedrun but that is okay I assume.
That is a common thing to do, but it is only really useful on certain levels. There are various variations of it:
Have 1 person in safe room, have the ohter 3 wait in an area away from teh door and wait for a horde, and get all the zombies stuck on the door.
Have bile, throw it into the safe room, watch zombies pour into the room, close the door on them, leave them stuck on the door.
Yours combines the two, but even so, if you have bile anyway, you might as well just throw it during a horde or a crescendo event and run through it. It takes too much time to:
1. Get bile to set it up 2. Wait for a horde
As such, there are only a few levels where this is even possible, otherwise, it is just luck munipulation like on Dead Center.
Plus 4 people would be tedious to get together, easily done with two people, and kill the other two bots, similar to the current L4D stuff.
getting bile hardly takes any time at all. Run through the first stage and at one of the dozen drop spots pick up a bile, it will take a few seconds off the main path. And you don't even need to wait for a horde for the glitch to work, I've done it on Dead Center without waiting for a horde, the horde comes after you throw the bile. There is also a trick to warp the last person in the 1st dead center safehouse who threw the bile to the gun shop before getting the coke I'll try and find a video. Repeat for the third stage. The last stage I have no tricks for other than the pistol duplication thing to lag the game severely
You don't have to wait for a horde to use it, I'm just listing that it is another option that people use in normal gameplay, when they do not have bile. Bile is definitely a normal thing to pick up on Dead Center. Whether you decide to use it on chapter 2 or 3 is up to you, or use it on both if you can find one in chapter 2 with luck. But the main thing that you will want for the finale is DEFINITELY an Adrenaline shot. You should know why
I personally ran dark carnival yesterday, with a time that I won't show up here because of the major skip I saw in the other video...
I play on my roommate's 360, and I'm down to try out to speedrun this game =)
EDIT: There is only one damn problem... very often when I try to step down, let's say, the balcony in dead center to save time, I end up standing and waiting for somebody to give me a hand. Is it doing the same thing on a PC?
allright, your tip worked =). I can guess I still have a lot to learn about this game before to run it. I need not only some hours of practice, but also one or two good links that talk about the game in general, hints, glitches, strategies and whatnot..
Me and a friend completed Dead Center in 15 mins... which is not bad at all! We guess 11 mins should be around the best time possible, for now. We'll record next time we practice.
I checked the shortcuts and glitches, and found some new ones... I take care of this speedrun (PC version) As in my left 4 dead speedrun, it will be independant levels - expert difficulty (except levels with unskipable events such as the barns) I'll post the "shortcut/bugs/glitches" checklist when my planning will be over ; however feel free to post any shortcut you found.

I tried doing a run of the barns a while back, got tired of it before getting a good run but doing it solo on expert is possible. I'm not sure exactly how it works but I've had a couple occasions where the game didn't spawn common infected at the crescendo; seems to happen when you get a ridiculously lucky tank spawn right as it starts. Might go back and try running it again but I dunno.
Since a new thread popped up and this has slightly more discussion in I guess that should be merged here. BUT anyway , the reason Im bumping is becuase of these 2 videos which showcase pretty much every known shortcut in the game. I think alot of them were unknown before these were posted. (probably wrong)
