The direct capture for DS is supposed to be available this month as well. Good to know there's another option though (too bad I don't have 2 DS's :p ).

Just to share my new record (didn't record because.. well, I didn't really expect this, and the direct capture still have some issues to be able to capture).

Still, my route is pretty much solid now, compared to the old run I did (I had some plans, but it was improvised in a few parts).
If anyone's interested, I might take some time of a day to post the route.

Not PR, but close enough.

now that I see a post on this, I would interested in a 100% RTA route for KSSU, including Meta Knight Ultra. But this means that obviously, Meta Knightmare Ultra would be timed based on real time, so for RTA we'd have to see if it's faster to go through that LONG mach tornado animation for bosses or not; I'm sure it is against computer virus, and makes fatty whale infinitely easier.

I have actually casually ran 100% KSSU in my own time (though ds recording being a pain = no video) so I can put up my 100% route for the great cave offensive...?

CHOKES
The bosses that I believe it's faster with tornado:
  • Wham Bam Rock: long "cooldown" (invincibility after being hit) and no damage when the hand isn't on screen
  • Reactor: dur
  • Computer Virus (Dragon): all the others but Knight can be 1-turn KOed. And Knight appears right before the Dragon, so no tornado
  • Fatty Whale 2: if you're lucky. If it doesn't jump at the start, then 3 hits + tornado kills it. Otherwise, it's probably close without tornado
  • Double battles (2 minibosses, Twin Woods): though I only use against 1 pair of minibosses, it's probably faster using tornado

Might be faster:
  • Lololo & Lalala: they do have some invincibility time, but the health is so low, I don't know.
  • Dedede: his movements are a bit annoying, and the cooldown isn't very short. Plus, dash attack (the start) + tornado kills it already.
  • Dynablade: cooldown is very short, but aerial attacks are kind of slow, and up+A is dangerous if you get too close. Plus, she has that grabbing attack; if you defeat her right before she does it, it'll waste a few seconds until she leaves.
  • Galacta Knight: to hope that he doesn't summon the Meta-Knights. Or at least summon less times.

About the 100% idea.. does that mean all helpers in HtH too? =p
<(^_^)>
I would argue that it'd be game definition of 100%, which is basically beat every game, hit both secret switches in Dynablae, and collect all treasures in the Great Cave Offensive. Meaning only one helper in HtH (obviously Bonkers)
<(^_^)>
Okay so I might as well get started on a route for 100% (I don't have recording equipment for DS, but I'll try to get SOME existent recording sometime)

Here's a text route for Milky Way Wishes. Feel free to critique; I'll try to get a video up soon over the next few days!

Skyhigh

Grab Jet by sucking the yellow block on top in the second room. In the main room, spam dashing jet headbutts and light the cannon to grab wheel. Use wheel into the door to get into the third main room.

Take the path: right, get invincible candy, center, left, center, get wing, exit, right, right, center

Kracko: Equip Jet and use one fully-charged Jet Cracker as he swoops. When he's on the left side, charge power as he drops a Waddle Doo then Jet Blow the Waddle Doo to finish Kracko instantly. During the death Animation, make a wheelie helper and switch to Jet.

TAC Star

Ride Wheelie all the way through the level and get Copy. Switch back to Jet before exiting.

Cavius

Ride Wheelie through the top route. Use Jet Crackers to own Chef Kawasaki, then ride wheelie along the top path to Poppy Bros. Use Jet Crackers again to own him and grab bomb (switch back to Jet immediately). Horizontal distances after getting Bomb, but before Bonkers, is short, so don't ride wheelie unless he's being super cooperative. Kill Bonkers, grab Hammer and keep it. Ride Wheelie to the right, fall down (don't climb down) the ladder, and ride wheelie left. Before Bugzy, get rid of Wheelie and use hammer flip to OHKO Bugzy.

Next room, wing up and through the water and fire an arrow at the switch from far away. Drop down to the door, grab stone and the invincible candy. Switch to wheel, and drive (As Kirby Wheel, without wheelie helper) to the boss.

Wham Bam Rock: The first palm slam, space and time a hammer flip so you hit him just as he hits the floor. Hop up and hit the hand with hammer once as it goes back up (he should be almost halfway dead already). Repeat his second palm slam, though it'll be faster since he's almost halfway dead. Do an early hammer flip on his third slam to finish him off before his hand hits the ground. Switch to Jet during the death animation.

Hotbeat

Jet Dash through the fire maze at the start, fly up the right shaft, and open the lava pillar. Get hit by the lava (ditch jet since its vertical acceleration is slow) and fly into the burning leo room while retaining mercy invincibility and grab Fire and the invincible candy.

Next room, spam lagless burnings and fire spins. Switch to Wing below the door to Bugzy, fly up and enter the door. Switch to Hammer, OHKO bugzy and grab suplex. Suplex dash to the door, switch to jet, and use well-placed jet dashes through the bottom route.

Next room, jet dash and hover around the fire maze. Take the bottom barrel, go right in the third barrel, right in the last.

Chameleo Arm: Jet dash further into the room, then switch to Hammer before he appears. Three hammer flips and another attack finishes him. Equip Fire.

Mekkai

Enter door. Use burnings to get through this room. Grab invincible candy at the end, and enter next room.

Equip wheel and drive along bottom route with spikes super fast thanks to candy. Backtrack before the hill to the top route to get Yo-Yo. Keep Yo-Yo and go back to this room, using break spin for horizontal movement. Yo-Yo down by the first barrier to hit two switches. Skip the last switch, go through the second barrier, then before the third, Yo-Yo to the left to get that switch. Enter next room.

Ride the elevator to the very top (equip hammer) and go left to fight miniboss. Kill it with hammer and grab plasma, but plasma sucks, go back to hammer. Go down one floor, go right and kill Bonkers with Hammer. Enter the door.

Heavy Lobster: Stay on the left and throw your hammer. Re-equip hammer, and use the toss move again by spinning through it to the right as it charges left, and throw the hammer left. Finish it with hammer flips. Equip Wing.

Here, I don't go to Halfmoon even though it's much closer on the map since, after I beat every level, I need to go to the top right corner anyways. So it's best to leave Halfmoon for last, especially since Ninja and Mirror are useless in this speed run.

Aquarius

Enter door to second room and fly on the top route (wing is probably faster than jet since jet needs to have ground to start, and you're jumping out of the water, so you can't do fast jet dashes off the bat). Bomber Head through the middle bomb block.

In the parasol room, condor head to the parasol ability and back. Aerial Parasol Drills for horizontal movement.

In the sword room, use a parasol dive to break through the blocks. Use hammer to finish Jukid to get sword. Switch to Jet to navigate out of the room.

In the water maze, get beam, then switch to jet for jet dashes on the land spot right before the door to the boss.

Fatty Whale: Jet to the actual arena, then switch to hammer. Pray that he starts off by bouncing; if not, then several seconds lost. Either way, throw hammers to finish him. Get wheelie helper during death animation

Floria

Get on wheelie and enter the first door until Winter. Go left and grab ice. Ice-dash-dance back to the first room, ride wheelie and enter the same season-change door until it's fall. Wheelie to next door and switch to winter. Enter door below via ice's sprinkle and grab fighter. Wheelie until after passing over the dead tree, then switch to summer and get cutter. Before leaving the cutter room, switch to wing. Right outside the door to the cutter room, switch to autumn and wheelie to the boss room.

Twin Woods: Use bomber heads in the very center, so the shockwaves hit both trees simultaneously. Just hope that they don't spam gordos and they'll go down quickly.

Halfmoon

Enter door. Ride wheelie, and take the warp star and into the next room. Ride wheelie through and use a bomber head to get through the yellow block before the door to mirror, and get mirror. Switch to hammer, pound the first stake, and ride the cart down to the door.

Take the warp star, and own both minibosses with hammer throws.

Switch to Jet and fly up the vertical shaft. Use a jet cracker to get the left bomb block blocking the way to the ninja room, and get ninja. switch back to jet and continue up the vertical shaft.

Ride wheelie in the boss room until the computer virus appears. GET RID OF WHEELIE and switch to hammer. Spam hammer flips and hope for good luck.

Now just use Hammer to finish Marx. DONE.

Milky Way Wishes, 100% Test Run (aka all abilities)

DynaBlade 100% will be up soon (which is just the two switches), followed by Spring Breeze (which is the same for any%, but the route is probably different for KSS)

I also finished routing up a 100% route for Great Cave Offensive and Revenge of the King, but I need to practice them a bit more before I get a reasonable testrun out there... I had Revenge of Metaknight pretty solid a while ago, but I haven't touched it in a while so I'll have to practice that a bit too...

In other words, while waiting for my recording equipment for KRtDL, be ready for test speedruns for this game!
I never played DS one so I'm not sure this will help you.
(my KSS 100% run)
This run is outdated but route isn't changed much compared current run.

To my knowledge, One hit KO with jet won't work on DS and makes very weaken plasma unfortunately.

Oh wow, grabbing jet from mix right off the bad in DynaBlade. I would totally do that if it was at the start of the run, but unfortunately in the ds version, you can only start with Spring Breeze. I personally won't manipulate mixes where my desired ability is not early because it'd be too inconsistent.

Our routes really diverge in the third area of the Great Cave Offensive, simply because I wont' use Wing against computer virus since spamming shockwaves won't allow me to one-turn all the bosses, even though they're smaller than in KSS, so I use Jet to ORKO them all. Heck, in KSSU wing is a lot worse, even jump-cancelled dives...

Yeah, Plasma is much less spammable in KSSU, so I opt for hammer against bosses if I can help it, jet if I can't get hammer. I didn't know that bouncing on your partner OHKO's minibosses; I'll have to see if that still works in KSSU...

Ok, I'll have to change around my route for milky way wishes, I completely forgot about the top route in hotbeat and such XD I'll definitely watch the entire thing, thanks! I took down my video since your route is much better than mine haha XD I thought nobody ever ran KSS/KSSU 100% ever; it's nice to know that there is a run!
Micromanager extraordinaire
Fun fact: if you defeat Whispy Woods in Spring Breeze and then quit, the game will unlock the other three starting games. I doubt it's faster to do this and then return to Spring Breeze later but I thought you guys should know just in case.

Also, a question for kirbymastah: why is your video down?

eh I took it down because I wanted to put up test runs with better routes that 0xwas put up. I shouldn't have taken down the dynablade one though, since there's no way I'm manipulating getting jet that doesn't come up in the first 1-4 mix slots unless it's the VERY BEGINNING of the entire 100% run (which it is, in his youtube run). I'll just be putting up a more optimized dynablade test run then; milky way wishes can be improved though.

And of course, this doesn't mean I completely neglect mixes, only ones where my desired power is early. I mix for jet in the second level of revenge of the king, and I mix for invincible candy in Dynablade 4 right before the miniboss rush, and another invincible candy in the Great Cave Offensive.

I didn't know that you can mix for jet at the start of Metaknight's revenge, and I'm sure it's doable on the DS version too, so if it's possible (which it should be), I'll be doing that too.

EDIT: Okay, my DynaBlade route should stay unchanged, and the Great Cave Offensive should stay 80% intact. I can't do the deathwarp in great cave offensive since I want to keep jet for as long as possible, and plasma really isn't as viable as in the SNES version anymore.

Oh, and of course for arena/true arena/helper-to-hero i'll be using hammer/bonkers since hammer is so much better than in the SNES version.

OK, for some reason I didn't receive notification for new posts in this thread? I missed a few posts here..

Anyway, here's a run of a pretty much tied record in MKU:

Lv 1 and 4 were great (new record =p), but 3 and 5 weren't very well.

Bump edit: new record =p
Video will soon be here (it seems I disconnected for a few seconds in the middle, so 2 parts):

holy crap, i gotta watch this!

The main thing is, for a 100% speed run, it'd be recorded in real time, so the route for Metaknightmare Ultra would be slightly different. An RTA can't spam mach tornado at every boss, since it takes up so much real time, though i'm sure it's faster to use against certain bosses like Lololo/Lalala, Main Cannon, and Computer Virus. I'll be sure to watch your run though; Congrats on the records! thumbsup

Meanwhile:

Only test runs, so there are obviously mistakes... But my Dynablade route will differ from 0xwas, simply because DynaBlade isn't at the start of 100% SS run of KSSU (since only Spring Breeze is accessible off a new file, unlike the SNES version), so I won't be mixing for Jet at the start. I do mix for an invincible candy though...
CHOKES
Do you have a time for a 100% run already, kirbymastah? I'm thinking about trying it too (though it'll be incredibly sloppy at first, since I don't have much idea on some modes; mainly Spring Breeze, GCO, MWW and Return of the King).
No I don't really have a time yet, I've just been practicing subgames separately. My DS stopped working for the past few weeks so I haven't been able to get a solid Great Cave Offensive and Milky Way Wishes 100% runs up on my youtube channel Sad I already have Metaknight's Revenge and Arena ready to upload but I kinda want to get everything up in order XD

I last left off with practicing Revenge of the King, and the last level really sucks... Try beating Phan Phan with Jet and you'll see what I mean -___-'' (aka comes down to praying he doesn't roll towards you while you're firing a jet cracker)

I can try to get a full run sometime today and time it for a rough estimate... besides Metaknightmare Ultra since I've never practiced that, but we can probably just append the RTA time from your run to the rest of the subgames for a rough estimate
Ah, forgot to mention, my DS started working again yesterday so............ yeah thumbsup

sorry for the double post, can't log in at the moment X_X

K, I tried a run today, just to have an initial time.
Time was 2:41:05 (WSplit probably will show :06), starting from the time I press A when the game asks if single or multiplayer, and ends when the screen goes white after Marx Soul (so I'm not counting the last cutscene where it says I got 100%).
Tons of mistakes, and got killed 3 or 4 times (besides the times where I killed myself on purpose).
Oh, and I used the mix on Dyna Blade and RoMK. I tried using in the middle of RotK, but wasn't successful (and I was dying, so I didn't want to try more tiems).

I streamed, but my net is worse than the usual, so it died too many times. If someone wants to try watching, it's here (good luck =p) with the title "KSSU 100% run? (Internet is bad, so stream will probably be crappy now)".
WSplit file attached, for those interested.

RTA Times for my segments that I will put up on youtube, unless otherwise noted (WILL BE EDITTED AS I RUN SUBGAMES)

Spring Breeze: 3:54
Gourmet Race: 2:12
Dyna Blade: 7:36
Great Cave Offensive: 25:33 (ran just now)
Revenge of Metaknight: 14:44
Milky Way Wishes: 18:18 (ran just now)
Revenge of the King: 10:27
Arena: 6:52
Helper to Hero: 5:08 (ran just now; ingame is 4:22:44; ended at record scene)
Metaknightmare Ultra: 32:18 (Anwonu's best RTA, I think)
True Arena: 4:48 (ran just now; ingame is 4:05:32; ended at final hit on marx soul)

Total - 2:11:50

Generally, for each subgame I ended the timing at the start of the credits / ending cutscene (whichever is more appropriate) since the subgame has saved at that point, and we want to soft reset.

Great Cave Offensive was average. A significant helper herpderp wasted a good 20 seconds... Mediocre Computer Virus luck too. So I guess this would be a good time estimate in general. I definitely need a full video of this to post my route X_X

Milky Way Wishes went pretty well, so an estimate for this in a SS 100% should definitely be higher than 18:18; maybe 19 minutes? I did miss the Marx quick kill though... need to see if there's a consistent way of doing it...

Helper to Hero is not very luck-based (well, compared to arena and true arena...), so the time up there is pretty representative of what a runner should get on average. It's an average run too; Computer Virus luck was perfect for the wizard and evil knight, but the dragon went first and started by petrifying itself, wasting at least 20-30 seconds. Overall balanced luck.

True Arena was pretty average. Lololo/Lalala/Dedede luck was horrible, but made up for by an excellent Galacta Knight fight.
CHOKES
yeah, I wasn't completely sure if it'd save before the cutscene, so I just went with a no-reset run.
Edit history:
kirbymastah: 2012-07-14 06:22:49 pm

Ahh yeah no-resets would burn a lot of time X_X

Anyways, I think a solid time to aim for is 2:15. Obviously the extremely rough and probably inaccurate "estimate" of 2:11:50 was given where half of the subgames were segmented/practiced/somewhat cherrypicked (aka spring breeze, gourmet race, dyna blade, revenge of MK, revenge of the king, arena) and Metaknightmare Ultra is kinda Anwonu's best RTA (i think), but the other games I ran are well representative of decent runs with average luck.

I definitely need to get a Great Cave Offensive video up ASAP, so you can learn my route and then see where it can be improved... For now, Anwonu, do you want a rough text-based route for it?

Milk Way Wishes is overall pretty simple: Jet/WheelieHelper levels, and Hammer every boss/miniboss. I think I put up a rough route up earlier, but I do want to get a video of this ASAP...

Oh, and Arena/True Arena/Helper to Hero, obviously use hammer/Bonkers. Plasma sucks (well, compared to its SNES counterpart) in this game.
CHOKES
GCO, I basically used most of 0xwas' route. One place that differs the most is from Computer Virus, where I get Jet instead of Wing. This means I need to get something to cut later. I usually make a Stone helper, but he's a bit dumb.

MWW, I don't use Wheelie for some reason. Maybe because Jet is faster than in SNES, so I can use more. And I don't really like Wheelie =p

Anything with a timer, I've run more times than the others. So, Arena, True Arena, HtH, MKU and even RoMK, I have a basic route. Gourmet Race is kind of an exception.

Yeah, that MKU time is my best.

And speaking about MKU, I realized you can't OHKO the Magician on 1st Computer Virus fight (at least, not how I do), unless you use the Mach Tornado. He has 100HP, and 80 the second time you fight him.

<(^_^)>
Interesting. But yeah, pulling a random number out of my butt, I'd say about 70% of 0xwas's route applies to GCO

Jet can definitely beat computer virus (at least the great cave offensive one) in one round each. For the most part, you want to use a pre-charged jet cracker the moment a slime/puppet/wizard comes out, turn around and charge (so the flares in kirby's back hit the boss twice; this should finish slime), then turn around and do another jet cracker, which will barely finish them. This is basically what I do to defeat most minibosses with Jet: jet cracker, turn around while charging another one, jet cracker again, repeat.

And yeah, I also need to use a stone helper, and it herpderps quite a bit when I want him to sink into the water with the cracked blocks by the room with Chameleo Arm. I also have a deathwarp in the third area of GCO... XD and also, parasol pwns the room with all the sleepy abilities. It clears that room so easily, so quickly; I definitely want to get a video of it sometime, but I won't be able to record this weekend Sad
CHOKES
Yeah, I know how to do it with Kirby+Jet. But instead of hitting twice with flame, I just hit once (Magician) or none (Slime, full charge + slightly charged; Puppet, 2 full charges).
I was talking about MKU. I think I posted some time ago that the Magician could be faster in real time without Mach Tornado. I guess it can't.
