I am a student, teach me
Hey, my name is Zane, I'm a 19 year-old from Washington full time college student and avid gamer. I've been watching speed runs since I could remember (days of yore playing starcraft on dial-up before heading off to school) I decided to start trying to speed run after seeing a bunch of streams from SRL. Even though there is a huge learning curve for certain games I'm having a blast discovering all these cool glitches for all my favorite old games (ISG, OoT out of forest blew my mind).

Other things about me, I enjoy playing bass/guitar and reading (when I get the time). I am a certified blackbelt with a couple trophies to show for it. When I get the time and money I would absolutely love to buy and learn Alto Sax

I wish luck for everyone and their future runs, because I know how intense it can be sometimes Wink Cheers
OWise Speedrunner, show me your ways
Hello, I am SizzlyPanda, or Michael as I'm known everywhere else. I am EXTREMELY new to speedrunning and have no idea where to start. I am open to tips and mentoring.

Anyways, I am 13 years old, 14 in March, and I absolutely am in love with the Legend of Zelda series. I also like older games because the newer games don't appeal to me as much. I first discovered speedrunning after looking up glitches for LoZ: Twilight Princess and clicking off onto a ZFG speedrun of LoZ:OoT, after this I was hooked. I pretty much spend all of my free time watching livestreams and attempting glitches (which I'm not very good at). I play all my Zelda games on Wii virtual console or just Wii plain in general. I want to get a N64 but all the good ones are too pricey for me and all of the ones I can afford are crap. I have only actually completed one "somewhat" speedrun of New Super Mario Bros. Wii but it took like an hour and 14 minutes to complete for me. That's pretty much all I can think of to say.(This is random but I have an EasyCap capture card but it has really bad quality)

Again, I would really like some help getting started with speedrunning. Thanks for reading

I'm not new to sda or speedrunning but I've decided I should probably let people new know who I am.  I'm Zewing and I kick ass at Mega Man X3 and Yoshi's Island for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.  If you want to speedrun any of these games and need help....look me up on irc or send me a twitch message and I'll help you as best as I can.

I began speedrunning by watching SSJ4 Trihex do Yoshi's Island 100% at AGDQ 2012.  Seeing him play that game and helping Prevent Cancer Foundation really got me into the speedrunning community.  Iqunlimited and Carl_Sagan solidified my place by getting me on the main network with speedrun chat.  I have advice to all new runners and that's to not be intimidated by anyone.  If a run looks too hard for you to even get close to it's because you need more experience and time learning strats.  Trust me I had the challenge of trying to beat Trihex's YI 100% time and saying to myself "no way I can match that skill."  Well I overcame that and beat his time.  Just run the game you love and you'll get great times.
No, the OTHER Marvel!
SCXCR here, otherwise known as SCR or just Scott.  I've been watching speedruns for a long time, but have hardly ever attempted them due to a number of reasons; mostly (a lack of) skill.

I hope to contribute however possible, though as a speedrunner I'm pretty bleh.  The few times I have attempted speed runs have for some reason been survival-horror type games, like Resident Evil or Escape from Bug Island, so maybe somewhere down the line I'll give those a shot.

Doozo goyukkuri.

Hi! coconutguy3 here, was introduced to speed running when i was looking through twitch one day and saw goron guy streaming majoras mask. I am new to actually speedrunning, i run xbox portal 2, This is the only level, and i am working on getting a strategy for fastest enderdragon kill on minecraft. I am trying to  get into any game really! I am not set at any game really.

Im a 16 year old High school student in Columbus, Geogia. I have played sports all my life but video games are my true passion, and speed running has really peaked my interests. I look forward to meeting you all!
New to running.
New guy here. After watching the first few days of AGDQ, I'm getting hooked on speedrunning. I obviously have questions (Trivial ones, are there games that simply CAN'T be run?) But looking forward to attempt running a game or 2, then work my way up.
Hi, MorKs here. I'm running Donkey Kong Country 3 Any% and aim on the WR. Hoping for the day AGDQ gets a DKC3 running so I can be there, meet people and do a speedrun Smiley
Oh and here is my twitch if people want  to hit me up : twitch.tv/MorKsQC
Hey guys,

I'm a new one, too. I've already been watching speedruns sometimes a few years ago, and also watched them on SDA. I have always been fascinated how peolpe find a way to beat my favourite games in only a few hours, or even less. But I just recently got the idea to do a speedrun on my own, as I started watching some streams (like AGDQ of course), so here I am!
So I decided to start speedrunning Bastion, since it's one of my favourites and the run isn't too long, because i think I might not yet have the endurance to do a run for sereval hours Tongue

Anyway, I'm looking forward to improving my speedrunning skills and learn to know some of you!

P.S.: I'm from Germany, so you have to forgive me if there are any mistakes Wink

Hi, all

I'm a 22-year-old male from the UK and love to play Pokemon.

I recently got into SRL when someone asked in Smogon's #pokemon channel if anyone wanted to speedrun Pokemon for practice. Having nothing better to do, I decided to try out and actually found it to be really intense and interesting. I've managed to build a reputation with Smogon over the years and moderate many of the competitive sections of the forum, so I have a good background knowledge on Pokemon as a whole and have been tipped as one of the better players on the site.

I enjoy watching respectable players sharing their own glitches/skips on Pokemon games and how to complete its respective goal in record-breaking times, and it has been a gripping experience so far and I wish to continue for as long as I am welcome.
Hello,

I am 24, male, and from the northwestern US.

My background: I've been a casual viewer of TAS videos and the SDA archive for a few years. The pure skill that I saw kept me from doing my own runs. Finding Twitch about a year ago changed my confidence about speedrunning. Seeing hundreds of streams with varying skill levels was inspiring, so I decided to make an account and start getting more involved with the community. I was part of another stream for a couple years, but it was all casual gaming. I've also done a bit of local voice-over work, and interested in possibly expanding to other voice acting.

So far I have run SMW, SMB2-U, and offline practice of Yoshi's Island. My focus for 2013 is YI and maybe SMW 96 exit.

I like to think I'm a pretty friendly guy, so it's cool if anyone would like to reach out. You can find me on skype, steam, and IRC at the same name here.
I suck at what i'm doing.
Hey guys!

I'm a 16-year-old male from Sweden, and i have been interested in speedrunning for quite a while now. I really enjoy watching streams and i have a few friends i met on SRL.
The game's im trying to run at the moment are Ecco the dolphin & Conkers bad fur day.
I don't really know what got me so interested in speedrunning, i belive it was when i saw the SM64 TAS (the 5 minutes long one). That was way before i even knew what TAS ment.

I'm working solo on Ecco, at the moment im still trying to beat the game (Then decide if i want to run it, it's a really good game and i enjoy every second of playing it. (even tho it gets me REALLY frustrated some times.) )
Conker's bad fur day is a project me and my friends are working on. As far as we know that game is kinda unexplored in  the 100% run, there's not glitches/skips at all and that's pretty much what me and my friends are looking for.

Well, yeah. That's about it. If anyone wants to talk to me, ask me something or need help just just PM me. Smiley
i play games and get into fights
Hey there, my name is Paul, and I'm a 19-year-old college student from Texas. Speed running has always been fascinating to me, and was something I very lightly dabbled in. According to the super trustworthy and super reliably updated Sonic Center, I hold the 7th place time for Water Palace Act 1 in Sonic Rush. Take that as you will; I did that over three years ago. I first started logging that level in '06, so I guess you could technically say I started running over 6 years ago, but since that's the only thing I've ever done, and did nothing else in the interim... Anyway.

My current plan is to try to run Wario World. There's a small thread on it with quite a few neat little tricks on it, and I think with enough hard work (and too many resets due to shitty floaty jumps jesus christ how can a game even be so floaty) I can get a solid run flowing. The fastest time posted is 58:58, so let's see if we can't knock that down a few ticks. It'll be my first time to ever properly run a game, though, so I'll also be taking this a lesson in how to learn a game and how to properly discover glitches, time myself for whether they save time, learn to record properly, and all that other stuff you need to be a good runner and.. well, succeed at running. I'll certainly be doing plenty of research into your methods, as well as possibly finding a few of my own to work with.

I hope I have a good time hanging with you guys, and I hope to be putting out some awesome runs in the future! Who knows, maybe at some point I'll pick up Sonic again. Lord knows it's been a while.

(ignore the NES controller in my hands over there, i haven't even held one in over three years. it's just an easily relatable thing for other forums i use so people can go "OH HEY RETRO GAMES THAT DUDE KNOWS THEM")

Hello! I have been hooked on games since I was a wee lass. My brother had a Nintendo, but being my older sibling, wouldn't let me play it. So I got REALLY into watching him play through Zelda, Metroid and tons of others. Then one glorious day, I came home and my dad was hooking up a SNES in my bedroom - an early birthday gift. I went ape and have never been the same since.
I definitely excelled at puzzle games over all else, rocking out Kirby's Avalanche, Tetris, Tetris Attack, Pieces, etc. I loved action games, too, but was never very good at them - like Donkey Kong. Freekin' love those games, but I would usually end up throwing up my hands and leaving the room to play piano to calm down again.
I remember the shining moment when I had finally saved up enough money to buy Chrono Trigger from Funcoland. Man, I was excited. I played the crap out of that game and still consider it one of my most prized possessions. Today I own Chrono Trigger on pretty much every device that supports it.
I got a N64 for my birthday a few years later - I came home to the Mario Kart 64 music playing from my bedroom and my dad already driving around. I still get goosebumps when that intro music plays. :-D
We played a lot of Pilot Wings together (taking turns of course), and I found out the Fastball album (All the Pain Money Can Buy) and free flying is the most relaxing thing in the world for me. Weird thing, though, I never got as attached to the N64 as I thought I would be. I don't have many games that I look back on as fondly as I do with my SNES (maybe that's just the way it goes?)

I tried to keep up with consoles over the years, but it never really happened due to the unforeseen events life can throw at us. I never had the money anymore to keep getting every system. In college I bought an xBox, right as the xBox360 came out, so it was uber cheap, and played a fair amount of games there. Then I bought a Wii at random because there happened to be one left at a store I was visiting (this was when they were still rare). With those two systems I got really into DDR (Step Mania). Even though I played it a ton and practiced as hard as I could, I only ever got as high as Standard (usually around 6-7 feet difficulty). I'm pretty proud though, considering how much of my life I spent obese at that time!
About a year after all of that, I was introduced to the wonderful world of Katamari and bought at PS2 just so I could play it. To this day Karamari is the only PS2 game I personally own. HAH!

Fast forward, I married a gamer and artist and now collectively we own almost every console. It's amazing how long it took me to go from one analog stick to move and button mashing on the right to all of a sudden picking up Gears of War 2 and having to use the whole damn controller just to function. It was a very hard adjustment, but I put in the time and now Gears is just a fun fallback game when we want to relax. In fact, we played a few rounds before we headed out to the courthouse to get married.

So, that's my gaming life story, pretty much. I love trying all kinds of games and if I suck it up too much, I equally enjoy watching someone else play. AGDQ is the Taj Mahal of my adoration for game watching. I am excited to be a part of this forum!

Today, my favorite games are: Chrono Trigger (playing it on my phone right now), Bayonetta, Tetris Attack, Mario Paint, Katamari Forever, Tetris (DS), and Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Greetings,

after having watched the marathons since they started, and several streams, I have finally decided to step my game up and throw myself on here.

Born and raised in Germany, I was the odd kid out with my dad owning a Genesis, and my mom being more into the handhelds such as the Gameboy. What followed were years of learning to love Sonic games, never beating Phantasy Star II until my late teens, and dealing with a ton of puzzle games on the Gameboy. During the early teens, my friends at school were all Nintendo-raised, and were my only access to those franchises - hence why I still am trying to catch up on playing some of the games that are considered 'must plays'. With transitioning into the Saturn, the Sega CD, and finally, into the Dreamcast, I was stranded there with a lot of juvenile "Sega is better than Nintendo" opinions in my head, and went onward to PC gaming.

In the past few years, I've caught up in Nintendo games, and obscure Japanese-only releases that collector friends of mine have recommended to me. I've barely touched modern consoles, though, once in a while, I manage to meet someone who owns a console and lets me borrow it so I can play those games.

I'm an avid no-sleeper and invest a lot of time into learning mechanics and hardware on games and consoles, etc. And, regardless of the lack of modern consoles, I've always found myself to body Mega Man games to the very end (that said, I'm fairly stubborn and probably could extra-polish my game-play to avoid deaths and such).

A big plan of mine has been to do either a Let's Play or a speed run of a very favourite of mine: Seiken Densetsu 3. There are other ideas occupying my busy mind, but school normally has priority over those plans, so a lot has been postponed in the past.

There is yet another big obstacle in the path, and that has been a big obsession of mine: DotA.

So, whenever I do not find four friends to play that with, I normally try to play games I've missed out on from months earlier, and suddenly understand all the in-jokes and catchphrases.

Ultimately, I'm warming up for gaming again, and I'm open to questions, requests, and possibly playing a game or two with others (preferably DotA!).

Welcome to all Newcomers who are being inspired by AGDQ (^_^) [And those that are not]
Hey guys! o/ My name's Jonny, otherwise known as digitalAlchemist. I'm a 20 year old guy from the UK. I've been aware of SDA since 2012's AGDQ, but didn't seriously think about speedrunning until the past few months. This year's ADGQ kind pushed me a little into really thinking about it, so I signed up for a forum account and here I am!

Gaming wise, I love me some (J)RPGs, rhythm games, platformers, strategies... all sorts, really Cheesy I'm not really fussy about what I play, but some favourite titles are Billy Hatcher, Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy, Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank. I'm hoping to get some speedruns on the go soon, once I get recording devices and whatnot sorted, so maybe you'll hear from me soon!

(I'm kinda bad at introductions, but hey ^^;)
Artsy Fartsy
Hello! As a fellow gamer, I've obviously been playing games all my life. I guess it's good to note that I really got into the speedrunning scene after watching some of the amazing runs of AGDQ 2011 and more-so AGDQ 2012. I've been working on some games from my childhood, but there's already some amazing times for the games I'm practicing. One day, I hope to be running with the rest of you, but for now, baby steps. Glad to join SDA, and I can't wait for what's in store this year!
Make your mark on the world.
Hello, I'm Azal. I live in Anchorage, Alaska. I enjoy RPG gaming, though I love Zelda, and recently found myself getting into the Metroid series. My favorite game of all time is Chrono Trigger, and second in line being Disgaea 4(over 500 hours into this game T.T).
I am also inteested in Anime and Manga. My favorite Manga/Anime being Fullmetal Alchemist, but I grew up with Naruto, and I am now finding myself returning to that series once again. I hope when Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 comes out, I can contribute to that game. Other Manga/Anime I have enjoyed are Bleach, Shakugan No Shana, and Soul Eater.
I also am starting to read again. I have been reading the Percy Jackson books, which I got for christmas, and I have to say, they aren't bad at all. My favorite book series would have to be The Last Dragon Chronicles from Chris D'Lacey.
My goal for being here is to contribute as much as I can though I am honestly not expecting much from myself. That speech that was given at AGDQ really inspired me to contribute. I hope I make great friends here. All the best~Azal(P.S. I'm usually not this formal. I'm always like this during my first week or so on a new forum. Soon, you will see my true nature. hehe)
Hi. I'm Kater. I've been lurking on these forums for about six years and finally decided to join. I mainly speed run Kingdom Hearts II. I also sometimes pick up the GBA Metroid games for some speed running but not as much now a days since my first DS doesn't work anymore. I don't really have a favorite game. My preference just changes kinda fast. This isn't exactly a good introduction but I hope that I might be able to contribute to this fine community at some point.
My name is Jessica and I am twenty-five years of age. I first became interested in speedrunning when I realized that my schedule is crazy busy now and don't always have time to play all of my favorite games all the way through. Speedrunning is the best way to go. Some much to learn, so little time. I love gaming and RPG and adventure games are my favorite types of games to play and I'm a sucker for charities, so SDA sounds like the perfect community fit for me.

I'm an athletic med grad who loves music just as much as gaming. My first speedrun was A Link to the Past GBA through the extra dungeon which originally required you to play Four Swords on the same cartridge first. It's not exactly the ideal speedrun since I didn't even touch Four Swords, but I thought it would be a good start. The mirror glitch was pretty neat. Thank you GBA mirror glitch. The second speedrun trick I used was the famous stair glitch in Super Mario 64. I wish I had known about it years ago when my brother and I spent months playing the game until we finally beat it.

I don't know if I can ever be a speedrunner for SDA with a severe lack of time right now, but they have my full support for everything else. Congrats on the 2013 marathon's success everybody.
I, like many others, I'm sure, joined in after watching AGDQ. It was only November that I sat down and watched AGDQ 2012 all the way through and loved it. Watching this years was amazing through and through.

Currently I'm trying to balance my job, and my let's playing. But I think I'm going to try and do a speed run of my own at some point in the future.
J(RPG)/FG Fanatic
Hey, people call me Jay or Jihun, since most people cannot or does not bother to pronounce my name. I'm not much of a speedrunning enthusiast, but hey, I love gaming, and if there's one thing I had opinions about gaming, it's about gaming communities that disprove the unfortunate notions about us today. I'm not as mature in age as some of you guys, but I tend to talk about a lot of stuff when it comes to gaming.

I'm right now an HS student who doesn't really have anything he wants to do in life. I seriously need to work on that, but if there's something I can say, I'm a JRPG junkie. I research a lot of JRPG's, from Ys, Sora no Kiseki, Final Fantasy, Radiant Historia, Chrono Trigger, Tales Series. I just decided to join after watching 2010-2013 AGDQ (Btw, fantastic job folks, loved the nostalgia from Ninja Gaiden). I also love Fighting games, from my list of Fighting games, there's bounds of others (I've seen EVO 2010-2012, and even played against [and lost proudly] against the famous JWong). I'm a giant gamer fanatic, I usually say it should at least be considered a hobby. (I have a vendetta against Modern Shooters, sorry, I tend to dislike them)

Anyways, here and with my lack of time, dunno what I'm going to do.
Hi everyone, im Mikael, a 26 year old guy living with my two cats in Sweden. Was introduced to Speedrunning by my good friend Tompa. Had some ideas about starting myself but at the time it just died down. Now i want to get serious about it, since its quite fun finding glitches and weird things in games.

My hobbies other than playing video games are Warhammer 40K (building up a thousand sons Pre-Heresy chaos army) and collecting video games. I have a goal to own a copy of every Game Cube game ever released. Later, i chose to extend that goal by owning both the original and players choice of the same game. Currently i own around 133 Game Cube games, by the end of this year i hope it will grow to around 300 games.

Evil_Dude is a nick that i haven't used for a long time, i used it when me, Tompa and his brother David where playing Unreal Tournament. Almost joined the clan they had, but didn't for reasons i have forgotten.
