Hi, I am Ditto (got this name back in the days when i played Pokémon TCG) and I am from Hungary.
I found SDA years ago but the first event I could watch was AGDQ2013.
I'm currently trying to run Saints Row: The Third and IV.

I'm not that great at speedrunning, though I am pretty good for a middle-schooler, and my runs will probably never make it onto the main site.

We have had people as young as 13 have runs published on this site. Age is not a limiting factor at all, just play a game you love until you get a great run and submit it!
Surprise! I'm over here now!
Hello. Unalive here. Some of you may have seen me poking and prodding different threads already. I'm an amateur glitch-hunter who doesn't know what he wants to run. So far I've experimented with Banjo-Tooie, Mario 64, Megaman X, and Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. Currently trying for that WR, though. PB is 3:51 on PS2 version although it's undocumented, and I've got myself the GCN version to start practicing.

Hi guys, it's a-me, Asvarduil (As-var-do-ill)!  I saw some SGDQ and WGDQ runs for 2013, and am really impressed by the community here - it seems to be one of the nicer gaming communities there is!

I've loved JRPGs for the longest time, and until I saw you all take a crack at it, thought my mastery of JRPGs was pretty good.  I was wrong, big time.

But, I wonder - where should a new speedrunner like myself start?  What would be a good first game to attempt?

EDIT: I notice this thread's author name is andrewg.  I too am an Andrew G.!

That's a very common question and it comes with a very simple answer.  Just pick your favorite games and have a go at it.  If for some reason you don't have the time then I recommend looking at other games you really enjoy OR do segmented attempts at that game.  JRPG's are heavily liked runs in the speed run community so have a go at it.
Sounds good Zewing!  Another question - I'm probably not going to be taking any shortest times right off the bat, because A) there's a bunch of bugs I certainly don't know about, and B) well, lack of expertise.  What is the correct place to post/talk about/learn from my practice speedruns?

hmm you could check around the sda forums but if you tell me what type of games you are thinking about running I could point you in the right direction.
Hey everyone, I'm Athens. I've been speedrunning for a couple months off and on and figured I would finally check out SDA properly. I run platformers mostly, having started with cave story, but I'm currently focusing on Earthworm Jim 1 for Genesis, and am currently only 18 seconds behind the fastest time I can find (by Breakdown). Sadly, I can't find anyone else that runs the game though. I've had nothing but good times speedrunning so far, and hope for it to continue here!
hey everyone! i m Aktraizer
i m french and speak a bad english, so i m sorry if i not so clear :p
i try run strider (all capcom version) , gargoyle quest and bionic rearmed Smiley
hope have a good time with you Wink

The games I'm most familiar with:
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal (Game Boy Color via Emulator)
Final Fantasy IV (PSX)
Final Fantasy V (PSX)
Dragon Quest (Game Boy Color via Emulator)
Dragon Quest III (Game Boy Color via Emulator)

*: Games with 'via Emulator' I only have ROMs for as my cartridge's battery has gone dry, or the original cartridge has been rendered inoperable.  I noticed upon reading around the forums that there are contexts where running from an emulator is permissible, but other contexts where it is not.
It's honestly a shame that it has taken me this long to find this site, since I've been speedrunning games for all my life.  My name's Roda, I'm a student at University studying for a degree in Math and Education.  Games I run (recently) include the entirety of the Jak and Daxter PS2 trilogy, Crash Bandicoot games, and various steam games.  I also casually play The Binding of Issac an awful lot, and I intend to start streaming runs.  Honestly, I'm still ashamed I'm so late to the party Tongue
Hello everyone. As you can tell by the name above my avatar, I'm Aegis Wing. A friend of mine told me non-specifically about AGDQ this year, and by accident, I came across the archives that were tossed up onto Youtube. I've spent the past month or so just watching all of the past AGDQs and SGDQs. For a while I had tossed about the idea of speedrunning a game and whether it would ruin the game for me, but after coming across the donation drives and all of the other archived videos, I've decided to take the plunge.

Looking through my old carts, I happened to find that my old cart of DKC 2 was number 40A, which means I've got a 1.1 cart. Since that happens to be the best one to speed run, and also happens to be my favorite game on my SNES, I've decided this is what I'm going to run. Wish me luck!
Hey. I'm Oakenn, been creepin for a while getting a feel for the whole speedrunning thing. I've started running Chrono Trigger (a long time favorite of mine). Been working on 100% for a few months now. Looking to get into other RPGs after.

Well asvarduil aside from Dragon Quest I can help ya out.

I recommend going on speedrunslive's irc and joining #rpg and #pokemon

once u get in those channels someone can help you.  Hang out in those channels and just interact with us.  We have a bot that announces when certain streamers go live with rpg's.

If you don't know how to get on SRL's irc just go to speedrunslive.com , then click the tab labeled "channel".  Enter ur nickname with a password.  Once you arrive in #speedrunslive (it does this by default) type in "/join #rpg" and upon joining #rpg type "/join #pokemon"
You got it!  Thanks for the help zewing.

...Also, why can't you help me with Dragon Quest I?  I know how hard it is first-hand (not horrible...compared to DQII,) but would anything render it un-speedable?

...bah!  I'll just go to IRC.  Thanks again [sir/ma'am, as appropriate]!
Hey guys, I go by Vitiate. A little info on me in regards to doing runs, I used to really do them a lot when I was younger, before I got an Xbox 360. My main games were the Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Metroid series. I used to be a part of a site called RE-Challenger, where we did a lot of Resident Evil speedruns, and years later some of my records still stand. I'm going to be getting into recording them soon, hoping to get some good times for Resident Evil 4, Code Veronica X, Silent Hill 4, Metroid 2, and hopefully Resident Evil 2.
Hello. Finally got around to signing up here.  I'm FrozenFlame or sometimes go by FATE, for obvious reasons.  Haven't really done serious speedruns (even if I did I don't have any equipment for recording it) but would love to give it a whirl one of these days.

I dont think I ever officially introduced myself on the forums =).

My name is Josh, I'm currently residing in Niagara Falls Ontario. Enrolled in an accounting program at Niagara College.

I have caught the last 2 marathons live and generally try to be active and helpful in the IRC chat.
I currently own a PS2, Xbox 360, PS4, GBA:SP, DS.

I havent been able to do much streaming due to the laptop basically being used for school purposes only, but I do stream random stuff from my PS4. I can be found at twitch.tv/iokua84
Yooo. I'm Rick, 23, live in Cleveland Ohio. Loved what I've been seeing at the gdq marathons the past few years, decided to finally get it together and start running some stuff. Working out some stats now, expect Contra (NES) Megaman 6-X, and Chrono Trigger runs for now. Looking forward to getting to know the community.
My name's Caleb.
Currently in college, working towards an Associate's of Science, Computer Science.
I'm a former military cadet (US Army c/PFC). It didn't go so well, but I gave it my all.

Registered today, hoping to make it to a XGDQ (the X being a variable, be it Awesome/Summer/otherwise) to run...something.
At the moment I'm working on routing Resident Evil: Outbreak Files 1 and 2 (that's two separate games, mind. The second one is 'File 2' while the first is unnumbered). I've made quite a bit of progress with the first scenario in File 1, but my biggest problem is recording. Once i get hardware/software, I'll be able to stream live whenever.

Video games are more or less where it's at for me, although I am a bit of an amateur artist.
My goals for speedrunning include getting fast times in both Resident Evil Outbreak games, although I'm not sure where to go from there.

Best way to contact me in real time is via Skype, but a PM will do just fine since I have it set up to forward to my e-mail address. I wont give out my Skype here, PM me if interested.
Gotta go faster.
Hello, I am AD_79. I love watching speedruns of games, and I recently started speedrunning some of my favourites. Well, attempting to speedrun them, anyways. I often seem to make quite a few mistakes in single-segment runs. I've been working on runs for Portal (Inbounds), Amnesia, and Rush Bros, an indie platformer on Steam.
'Sup, bros. I am best known as A.J. I have been aware of speedrunning games for as long as I've been playing games -- I tried a casual speedrun of Pokemon Emerald myself, clocked at a little over 6 hours.

I've recently discovered AGDQ and SGDQ. Doing so has piqued my interest in speedrunning greatly. Though my options for speedrunning is very limited for the time being. I'm hoping to learn speedrunning techs during my stay here. The first game I will try will probably be a Pokemon game. But I have my eye on Henry Hatsworth.
I like to make music
My name is Sebastian, I currently live in northern Sweden.

At the moment i'm trying to learn how to speedrun Sonic Adventure 1, and i'm playing around with Half Life 2 on and off.

Besides video games my main interest is music producing

Hello everyone, my name is Samuel, and i live somewhere in Missouri.

i was wanting to try to speedrun alot of the MegaMan Games, but unfortunately, looking at the rules for Speedrunning, i cannot, due to the only way i could, would be through emulation... darn.

i guess that means ill have to find something for my PC or get something so i can record video from my Xbox 360... meh >.>

EDIT: Oh hey, would you look at that, i didnt know there was PC versions for Megaman X-X8... well, i guess ima start practicing  on those now (once i can find a place to get those games from for the PC) Shocked

Reptile Enthusiast
New here. I am a hobbyist speedrunner, off and on. I'm not very competitive with runs I just do them for the fun of it, but I would like to someday have a run published here. It would be cool. I generally run older games from the PS1 era and prior. Last November I participated in the Extra Life marathon charity and completed 8 games in the course of 25 hours with breaks (Earthworm Jim 2, Vectorman, Super Off Road, Donkey Kong Country, Cosmic Spacehead, Puggsy, MC Kids, and Kirby's Adventure -- was working on Dynamite Headdy but ran out of time). I love marathons and am a huge fan of AGDQ/SGDQ! Smiley

edit: I do not have a Twitch station, but I do broadcast with the Gatorbox ensemble at gator.co. The YouTube channel for the team is FlyingLizardSA. My Extra Life runs are there. Smiley
