Hello. I'm new here (be nice to me  ;D). I'm a 19 year old guy from Sweden and I love watching speedruns and learn from them.
My personal records on games are 42:40 on Mega Man 2 PAL version (I know I can get down to about 40:00 easily!) And I recently beat Don Flamenco on 37:99 (in-game time) also PAL version.
I'm a friend to Freddy Andersson who did the speedrun for Mega Man 3 and Ducktales.

Anyway, my thoughts were that it would be soooo cool if someone (who is able to and have the time to do it) would make a couple of movies with short clips from speedruns in it. Like "The Best of Speedrunning vol.1" and so on. And maybe a bloopers-movie too. That would be awesome!
You think that would be possible?  Kiss

It's definitely possible, but the wide range of genres here might confuse someone who was watching the highlights reel, say... there are many runs here which can be readily appreciated by most viewers, but some have tricks or other events which will only be fully understood by an avid player of the game.
That said, yes, it would be cool. Smiley I would enjoy a bloopers reel too, hehe...
Mind if I perform the bloopers? I seem to be very good at that.

I know I made a big blooper today while I was playing Mega Man 2. On Flash Man, I was going to jump onto a platform (just before the boss) but I couldn't get up there!! I lost about 10-15 seconds there haha.
But it was a crappy run anyway so it was not a new record, wasn't even close..  :-/

I have a demo which would go on a Quake bloopers reel, featuring e1m7 owning me in spectacular fashion. Maybe I was drunk when recording it, I did just about everything wrong.
So let's just see what Radix and the others thinks about this idea.
Sounds like people are positive to it.
Well, there was that promotional video by the SDA with different Quake tricks.
Mumma
Indeed there was! It's a sexy video that anyone can and should enjoy  Grin Only 99 MB.

Hey Ho Let's Go
Not to mention all the other Quake videos which are all highly recommended! (They're all AVI's so there's no need for Quake):

I wasn't thinking of Quake really.. PC games suck.. ass  Shocked
You've got to understand, though. Quake is where SDA was born. You'll get absolutely nowhere with claims like that.

How DARE you?

(du har fel! Fel! Jättefel!)
Oops.. sorry, now I realize what a HUGE mistake that was. Ok, I'm sorry to say, but I don't like Quake at all (or any other PC game, that i know about). But you could make a movie about that, sure. I won't download it though. I would really enjoy a movie with clips from Mega Man 2, 3 (and 5 which is the upcoming speedrun.. it will be here soon), and other cool speedruns. Off course, it's impossible to make a movie where I enjoy EVERY single clip. For example, I wouldn't like clips from let's say "Golden eye", because I don't like the game very much myself. But it would still be cool... \../_O.O_\../
Jack of all Trades
You don't like ANY PC game. That's interesting. Usually a console fanboy would like GoldenEye too, though. Let me guess -- Mario and Zelda aren't your cup of tea either?

I like the multiplayer part of Golden Eye, but you can't make a speedrun playing against your friends  Tongue
Mario is OK, but I'm not a fan really. SMB 1,2,3 and SMW and the gameboy games are cool. Mario Kart is great.
The Legend of Zelda is the best game series of all time! The only game in the Zelda-series that I don't like is "Majoras mask", but except for that, it's awesome! Why did you ask? Smiley
Well... FYI, I was planning on making a blooper reel of my Deus Ex run (but it's for pc...), because I do some really funny slip ups.

Like there was this one when I was jumping out of the compound in Hong Kong, I accidentally jumped on the dog inside the compound and killed it, making everybody who wasn't important to the story hostile towards me.

I still decided to keep on trying it, but every time I went through that compound, stuff kept on happening.

Heck I could do a bunch of funny stuff I don't think you'd have to of played the game in order for it to be appreciated...

But hey buddy... watch what you say.  I'm a fan of gaming in it's totality (except playing GTA games for nothing but killing sprees like every 7 year old in the world that played it does... is it just me or is GTA's biggest fan base people who like killing people and jacking cars... without any purpose or plot behind it...).  I play ALOT of PC games, as well as console... and saying PC games sucks really offended me... (especially because I have a record breaking run in the works of Deus Ex... I just need to finish up the 2nd half of the games worth of reasearch, and start recording the first half...)

Mandel, that was the most amazing thing I've EVER seen O_O

I can't wait to do my Half-Life one, which won't even be a quarter as entertaining. By the way, if "stubby" is Stubgaard, ROFL, I liked your parts in the video alot.

It's funny, whenever people are talking about a sweet PC game, or talking about their favorite fastest runs, Mandel, Stubgaard, Radix or whomever comes in with a Quake .avi and rocks our faces off.

Ok, I understand that people get mad with me because I say that I dislike Quake. But dude, I don't like PC games and that's it. If you would've told me that you dislike Zelda I wouldn't bother at all.
The only PC game that I like (the only game that came up in my mind right now) is Championship Manager 00/01 :).
Aw, man. He stole my avatar.... *Goes to change it*
actually, something like this (see first post if you don't remember what this thread was originally about) has existed for over a year now in the form of a special sda promotional video i put together for the most recent "holiday" issue of egm (big american video gaming magazine very friendly to m2k2sda). it was featured on the dvd you got if you bought the magazine in a store (you didn't get the dvd if you were a subscriber). i know some of you first heard about this site from that dvd, so this won't be new to all of you, but i can say it will be new to nearly everyone here, as i've never released it publicly outside of that egm dvd before now.

keep in mind that the site's coverage of games other than quake was in its infancy at the time (only about six months old), so i had a very limited (by today's standards) selection of runs to pick from. also, you will notice that virtually 100% of the runs featured in the video have since been beaten. that alone means that the video is not suitable for use outside of this forum thread, so please don't link to the video on other forums (link to this thread instead if you must), or else i'll be forced to take the video down. hopefully someday i can make an updated version of it, but that will come after the dvd volume #003 special edition and maybe something for metroid 2002.

a final side note ... those of you who bought dvds #001-012 from me before i redid them to match #013+'s look and feel will probably recognize the music. it's actually the "lost track" from tempest 2000 for jaguar ... the music from that game was done in amiga module format, and apparently there was one track on the cart that never got played. it also wasn't on the ost. anyway, i decided that the chances of someone recognizing it were slim enough, and the chances of atari's remains coming back to life and threatening to sue me were slimmer still, so i gleefully modified the track until it fit with what i wanted to do with the video.

here it is (you will need quicktime 6 or better to view it; right-click and save as for best results):

enjoy.
welcome to the machine
Wow, that's awesome.  Very nice job, nate.
Hell yeah!! That's the stuff man!! Amazing! Now what we need is an updated version of that! Maybe 30 minutes (or even longer).

I really like the way the names of the players, name of the game and clear time appears! Very nice work!

If you, or someone else could make another movie like that it would be really cool.
Though, this was made like an ad for this page. What I'm looking for is a regular "movie" with clips, maybe a bit longer than the clips in this movie, from when people do very difficult stuff making it look easy.

Very cool movie though! Keep up the good work!
bläää
For me... It should be nice with different clip from different games. Mega man, SMB, Quake, Resident evil, Metroid... everything good is good!  Wink
The original leever.
well i have a new goal GET ON THIS VIDEO! o god that was awesome nice way to throw in some adverts too ;P
