This is a repost of my Introduce Yourself post. I wanted to dedicate an entire thread to what I'm about to say, but I was directed to the Introduce Yourself thread, so I posted the following piece over there.

I just want to say right off the bat that you will never hear from me again after this. The only reason I made an account at all is so that I can get this off my chest, something I've been wanting to do for a really long time now. I have no intention of speedrunning games myself, nor do I ever plan to. However, I've been following this site ever since it first branched itself out from Quake, so I need to tell my story the way only I know how to.

The year was 2005. The White Sox won the World Series, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Google introduced the Maps feature, and there wasn't a single Nintendo DS run on this site. At the time, guests were permitted to post threads on this forum, so my 10-year-old self decided to make one basically complaining about the lack of DS runs and questioning why there weren't any. After a few days, I was told that there wasn't any way to record DS runs other than with a camera pointed at both screens, meaning you would have to point the camera and use the stylus at the same time. That, I didn't have a problem with. What I DID have a problem with was the stylus - because most DS games at the time used it extensively, and because it was distracting seeing the stylus cover up a portion of the bottom screen, I decided to post another thread suggesting that somebody use video editing software to remove the stylus from the footage.

The response to this so-called "great idea" was a never-ending stream of hatred, condescension, and anger. (Or at least, I thought it was at the time.) There wasn't a single person in the thread who wasn't downright appalled that I would suggest such an impossible task. Remember, capture cards were nothing but a mere fantasy at the time, so that was not going to be an option. Because of the overwhelmingly negative response towards what was, in hindsight, an utterly stupid idea from yours truly, I was discouraged from posting any more threads for an entire year.

Fast Forward to 2006, and Brett "Psonar" Ables had posted his Star Fox 64 Redline Route run. After watching that run, I decided to head back to the fourms to post a request for a Blueline route run to complement Psonar's run. What I didn't realize back then was that there were three factors that would render such a run as infeasible: Sector X, Spyborg, and Slippy. I recommended that Spyborg shoot down Slippy, and was almost immediately informed (in a way that I perceived as more condescension, even though I don't think it was) that committing such an action would kill a run. Like with the stylus incident, I once again became depressed that an idea of mine would be rejected. (Not clinically depressed, in case you need clarification.)  Later that year, I requested a similar complement: a Zelda: Oracle of Ages Linked Game run to complement Tompa's Seasons run. I decided not to bother checking the responses that time out of fear of even more condescension, and I never posted on this forum again.

The four forum threads I made can still be found on this very site. I only know the name of one of those threads (NO Nintendo DS Runs!) and I wrote them when I was an elementary-schooler. To anyone who was surprised, angry, upset, or expressed other forms of negativity at these four threads, I deeply apologize from the bottom of my heart. Those threads were the product of a different era, a time when I was an innocent little boy who didn't know any better. I won't ask for your forgiveness, because I know that you will do just that. I learned during those two years that not everything is sunshine and rainbows, and to watch what I say online, because once a forum thread is posted, it's posted forever.

Thank you for your time, and have a nice day.

Took the liberty to delete the other post just to avoid a duplicate.

Thanks for sharing that and sorry about your bad luck with posting. I think the community that frequents the site now is probably a bit more civil. Hope you like some of the runs that appear on the front page.
