I have just downloaded a lot of Quake runs and they are in .DZ format.  How do I run them?  I know I need Quake but i'm not sure on the version or how to put them into the Quake game to watch them.  Thanks for your help.

First off, you need a Quake copy. I figure you have that one already. Install it. Then, you need to unpack the .dz files using Dzip, a utility by Radix. After unpacking, you put the demo file in your Quake folder, run Quake and write 'playdemo [name of demo]' in the console.

Or, you can use the awesome Quake client known as JoeQuake. Bear in mind you still need to have a Quake copy to use it. After you install it, you can just put the unpacked .dz file in your Quake folder, start JoeQuake, choose 'demos' in the menu, then navigate to the .dz file you want to watch. JoeQuake will unpack it and play it automatically.

I plan on writing a guide to easy demo playback sometime.
