I won't be able to help for the summer marathon but in the future I would love to be able to help in some marathons. I just got started speed-running and to be honest I doubt I will get into it as much as a lot of you. I'm thinking one of the ways I could help in some marathons is to participate in races; probably of the NES era games that are pretty quick and I can practice on an emulator (Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, etc). I haven't ever done speed runs of these games so I guess my questions are:

1) Is this a good way for a new speedrunner to contribute to the marathons?
2) What games should I focus on?

I also have a PS2 and 360 if there are any games on there that it would be beneficial to practice.

In my opinion, the best way to help is to spread the word. Post about marathons as they're ongoing (or shortly before) on Twitter, Facebook, or other social networking sites and forums.
Actually I don't do social networking so that isn't an option for me lol.
Leftward punch go!
Spreading the word isn't limited to social networking. Lots of gaming news sites have posted about us in the past, and shooting an email towards some of the major corporations can really help net some notoriety.
