Oh, sweet nadejumps poCari!

This one is probably the best sounding:

Quote:
- The area far ahead with the tank, and the electrical fence area, there's a huge brute thing that falls on the ground. I jump on his head and grenade myself up on top of the building

I found that you also could Gauss-gun jump up a wall at that location, but you probably knew that one allready Wink (but I mention it since RandomEngy didn't use it, maybe because he wanted to save Gauss ammo).

btw, how will you survive all those nade-jumps? Will you need to get more health that "usually" ?
XXY
I know, that's my favorite grenade jump of them all, hands down. I don't need to stop for health too often for any of these jumps, surprisingly. I'm trying to not take too much damage from AI and such, and if all goes well, I can pull off all of those without any problems. I'm still searching for more.

Sorry for the double post, but I believe this post deserves some attention if anyone is potentially interested. I've made 5 .dem files of some of the damage hops I'm pulling off here. Since they're .dem files, I suspect you're going to have to place them somewhere in your Half-Life folder and view them through the console. If you know a different way of viewing them, well... yay! Here's the links to "the stash." Just incase I somehow link them incorrectly, um, just tell me  Smiley All files hosted on filefront.com

playdemo hop1
Nothing fancy on the speed jumping part. Just giving you an idea of what I'm doing.

playdemo hop2
Sure it looked slow, but god damnit I pulled it off. I'm going to be doing that in a straight shot in my run. Somehow I was unable to hit it while I was trying to capture a .dem file, lol, so I just spit out that.

playdemo hop3
Nothing fancy speed jumping wise... at all. Well Dale, here is your favorite grenade hop in action. It's going to look a lot better in my run, since I'm revising it. But here's what it kinda looks like. Damn, if I land at this point in the game with like 100/5 or something, that'll be the best thing ever. That way, I can shoot myself all the way around the building and land in the hole. You can get stuck in the hole too, so I won't die on my fall. Plus, there's plenty of health packs along the way, so I can do another grenade hop later on to get into the sky, instead of using the snarkeys.

playdemo hop4
The jump went pretty good. I was sloppy when I got up onto the tower thing, because honestly, I wasn't expecting to land on it after my first few practice demos, rofl. Also, the shortcut I include on this was sloppy as well. I can destroy the blast door AND the wall I jump over at the same time, but whatever, gives you the idea.

playdemo hop5
Yeehaw @_@. I don't know why this is #5 because it's a few areas before #4, but oh well, this one was just for fun, although it will be included in my run. I do this jump in particular because 1. It saves some time 2. I need to have no armor for the areas ahead. That way when I reach that brute grenade hop, I can just pick up one of those armor "bonuses" if you will and there we go. Usually my armor doesn't drop at all, and I'm stuck at like 20/50. But oh well, this is what the jump looks like.

I linked everything with "playdemo whatever#" because that's what you have to type in the console in order to view it, I think. So there you have it, for anyone who is interested. And just incase this matters, all the demos on my machine were put into this directory:

D:\Half-Life\valve

That's it. Hope you can watch and enjoy  Wink

hi
The .dem files, is Steam required???
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I just C-A-N-T wait for a final .avi file of the complete run to be made! You guys does the best job finding those tricks!

all my respect!

hi
This all tricks and shortcuts are very hard to do in a single-segment...

I dont watch the .dem files because the dowload servers are full! Maybe ist better now.
But are the .dem files for old or for steam half-life?

Nope, you don't need Steam to view these. And actually Dark_Devil, I'm practicing my ass off to make my health perfect in areas of the game for all of these grenade hops. Needless to say, I'll be able to pull all of them off, it'll take some work though. They are pretty well spread out, so I shouldn't run into any problems. And thanks for the compliment "ilovehandskills"  Grin

But anyways, I've .dem'd three other grenade hops for fun. Here's the links:

playdemo hop6
If the building hop goes really well, I can pull this one off. If my plan works perfectly, which I think it will, I'll be able to pull this hop off with a lot of health left, and be able to land on the floor without dying instead of landing on Barney. I had to land on his head in the .dem, but this gives you an idea.

playdemo hop7
Yes, believe it or not, this jump is probably going in my run. Although it may appear to be useless, it really isn't. It saves a few seconds, plus if I pull this off, my health will be perfect for when I hit the room with all the assassins. Basically, I'll hit that area when I'm around 96/8 health or something, that way, I can grenade myself all the way from when I enter the room right to the elevator switch. I can go pretty far o_O;

playdemo hop8
This is the area in question of the ultimate grenade hop. I cleared the room of the assassins obviously so I could just kinda show you what I mean, but it'll look a lot more impressive in my run. Enjoy.

Right now I'm in the teleportation labs. I'm gonna do another mortor hop here, which I'll capture later. Then we'll see what this border world has to offer. Once again, you don't need Steam to view these. I recorded them with the console, and I'm running v46/1.1.1.0

That's what it says in the bottom right corner. So enjoy the .dem's ^_^

EDIT: Time to make this *censored* LONGER! muwahaha. Not that much longer. I just made two more demos. Here they are:

playdemo hop9
Just a hop over the fence. What I'm planning on doing is when I'm about to enter into teleporter 4, I'm going to grenade myself from there all the way up to the fence. I'll capture a demo of that later I guess.

playdemo hop10
More exploding of me. Just grenading myself to the teleporter, nothing too fancy. I could have used a mortor, but then again... I didn't, so suck on that  Tongue

More explosions to come! O_O
hi
Sounds very cool. I will install my old HL version tomorrow and update it to 46/1.1.1.0. Only for the .dem files  Smiley

What time do you expect poCari?

I honestly can't pin point a time, but I'm pretty sure it'll be fast. I'll update this post with my practice time run, which I'm going to do right now.

EDIT: Somehow I managed to do everything perfectly and came out with a time of 42:54 on my stopwatch. That run had a few mistakes in it, but everything I had set out to do went perfectly..... I seriously mean perfect. I'm confident I can take that time lower, because my run of the border world was pretty sloppy, even though my Gonarch fight was really fast. I'm writing about what I did in my run in a wordpad document right now, so I'm not gonna put it all down here. I'll post a link to it later  Tongue

Oh, speaking of links, I'm gonna post some new explosion hops and such later on that I discover. I'm pretty sure I missed some in my run, so I'll be "hopping" to that if you will. Also, I'm upgrading to XP VERY SOON, so I can finally get a recording program and capture my run. Yeesh, took me long enough.

EDIT: I made the wordpad document. I finished all my homework and I had nothing better to do, so here you go. Read up on it if you wish, but for now, I REALLY have to go to bed, god damn.
omg! wtf?
holy crap!
poCari, your single segment beats Spider-Waffle's segmented run, right? omg! congrats and post it quick!
Yeah, crap I agree. Wow. Just think of what a multi-seg will bring it down to. Looking forward to it. You've proved you can own this game.

hi
No Aquashark, Spider-Waffle hav only a single-segment run. RandomEngy have a segmented time  Wink

EDIT: Cool grenade jumps  ;D, but you missed one  Tongue
RandomEngy's run at 36:08...the ultimate grenade
          jump  Wink
Like A Fox
I am definitely going to have to watch this.
XXY
Thanky everyone. I haven't captured the run yet, but my dad says we're upgrading my Windows 98 to XP pretty soon, so I'll be able to capture it. Like I said, 42:54 isn't the best time I can do. I was slow in the border world, my speed jumping was kinda sloppy... ugh. Besides, I misused my health in some places, namely the border world and lost time. I think I'll be able to maybe take this to 40:XX.

Dark_Devil, I do that grenade hop if you're wondering  Wink

If Spider-Waffle's run doesn't come through ( Cry Cry Cry ) I'll do a segmented Half-Life run later. But now I'm gonna go play some more.

You could just send the dem file off to someone else to turn it into avi.
XXY
Problem with that. Whenever I record a .dem file and I go through a load point, the recording goes "bananas" if you will. If you've ever played Half-Life and did a bad sky glitch let's say, and you somehow end up in a wall.... it basically looks like that.

Besides, I still need to revise a bunch of the tricks and such before I can do my serious run. I'm getting XP in like 2 days, so it doesn't matter  Cheesy

Uh, aren't you using the steam version? That fixes dem files across level loads.

Nope, I'm running v46/1.1.1.0

XP it seems, will bring me all.

EDIT: Ooh, ooh, more carnage:

playdemo hop12
Don't ask me what happened to number 11... sad story. But anyways, just more exploding of me. I basically rocket myself into the teleporter. Download and enjoy.

Later on I'll hopefully be teaming up with a bunch of Half-Life gamers and creating a "promo video" if you will of a bunch of cool tricks and shortcuts. I'll post about that in more detail later. Damn, when I get XP, I'm so going to capture my run of "Power Up." Sure one can tripmine over the blockade, but why do that when you can enjoy the corridors of the Power Up level? It's actually really fun to speedrun. Damn, I should do "We've Got Hostiles" too. But that's reserved for later. Oh, and a quick update. If anyone watched "hop4," where I jump to the tower, I've found a way to revise that. I go off the alien trampoline thing and throw a partially-held grenade into the air. It'll explode right next to me, rocketing me to the platform. It may take a few seconds longer, but it would look so much more sexier. Eww... But all this is later, and for now, I must depart. School tomorrow Cry Good day.

I am very, very sad that I still have a 56k modem...I can't watch your demos because my HL is v.1.1.0.8. Tomorrow I will go through my PCGamer cds/dvds to search for a update.

Here's just some routes and fun stuff that I've been messing with...

Well if you want to do a multi-level demo you need the steam version.

If you want uncapped bunnies that's what HLSP bunny is for; it doesn't do anything for non-steam because the bunnies weren't slowed down until the steam version... that's the point of HLSP bunny!
omg! wtf?
poCari give the demos to Radix. he'll make the .avi for you

To be qualified as a single segment run, what are the requirements? Does it have to be videotaped or what?

Hah, yeah right!

I have a computer from 1999. I get like 20 fps in half-life.

Is there a program out there that I can use to convert the .dem files I recorded to .avi format?

Oh and Maximus, it means running the entire game in one recording.

No, the point of his quesiton is this:

If you give me an avi file of half-life ... i can't tell when/if you quick saved to segment the run.
This makes dem files necessary.
