Waiting hurts my soul...
For Oblivion: Do you consider getting Umbra instead of the suggested artifact from the vampire den a skip?

Yes, getting Umbra.
Waiting hurts my soul...
The question was directed at the OP for the bounty. Just wanted to clarify if that was considered a skip by him or not. I know it's faster, so I figured you were doing it.
No, I wouldn't.

If there's controversy with DLC items then I guess I'd prefer Mass Effect 2 without them, so it's not counted as a NG+ run on the site.

All fair in love and speedrunning Cheesy

Aha, so you're going to finish that 100% Oblivion run this year? Most awesome Cheesy
I'll sure try to lolol. Its a lot of work, but I'm still slowly chugging away. I really just need to pick up the PS3 version.
I've had quite a few PMs from people saying they're going to give runs a go, so if you have your mind set on one, I'd advise you get to it!

I'm really excited to see what comes from this thread. Can't wait to watch some insane runs.
How do you send PM's in this new forum?  Is it that private thread option?  Anyway, what quests need to be completed in Fallout 3?  I've done a very easy, sub 2:00 run, and these are the quests I completed.

Baby steps
Growing up fast
Future Imperfect
Escape
Following in his footsteps
Galaxy News Radio (this one can be skipped by a speech check)
Scientific pursuits
Tranquility Lane
The Waters of Life
Picking up the Trail
Finding the Garden of Eden
The American Dream
Take it Back!

I didn't do rescue from paradise since it's possible to enter little lamplight with the child at heart perk, and funnier too.  Do you consider that a skip or not?
Fucking Weeaboo
Yes, Private Thread = Personal Message.
Sonical!

I hope that he doesn't.
I'd prefer discussion was held in here rather than PM, personally. Keeps the thread active for me to see the bounties - will drive competition!

I wouldn't consider that a skip.
I've had a few PMs, so I'm bumping this again just so people are aware of these/movitated to do them.
Stalker!
For those who want to go from the mass effect bounty, i did a segmented run which gives you a generally idea of a route.

here is the run:
Just bumping this because there's one or two runs being planned that this applies to, and just to remind other folks.

I'm still willing to pay for all in the OP guys!
I'm definitely interested in the Fallout 3 run (and both Mass Effects if they aren't taken by the Summer) but I was wondering if you counted speech challenges as skips in the storyline, like skipping the GNR quest?
No, I wouldn't Smiley

You should make a post (or edit the first one) to show which bounties are being pursued right now, and maybe include links to threads that are discussing them if any exist.  I agree that bumping this thread often is a good idea to keep the bounties fresh in the minds of people contemplating runs of any of your suggested games.  Smiley
I did the legwork, and with ten charisma and 63 speech (61 and two more points from the 101 jumpsuit) you have a 58% chance of bypassing the GNR quest.  If you kill Mr. Burke for his suit, it's a 61% chance.  Just thought I'd let you know.

This might be funny.  I decided to test using a power fist to kill the super mutants in the Jefferson Memorial as there were a couple not too far out of the way to Rivet City.  I didn't do GNR in that run, and I thought I played better than in my recorded run.  Skipping GNR should have saved seven minutes, but my time according the save made when entering the memorial for the end was seven minutes slower then before.  Weird.

One issue though.  Someone in the Fallout 3 thread mentioned a run without glitches or skips might not be accepted by SDA.  Is there an official ruling on this?  It would suck to put in the effort only for the run to be ineligible for submission.  I know someone was working on a full main quest run of Morrowind, which would have been nice to see alongside the run that skipped most of the game, to show just what was skipped.

that Metroidvania guy
There'd be no reason for SDA not to accept a run without skips because the citadel skip and the grenade skip combined are pretty huge. It's not like you're just skipping a mission (which technically you're doing via sequence break in this run).
In my experience, mikwuyma is very open to decisions that have zero (or functionally zero) chance of having negative consequences on SDA. Even if it has to be a special case, fallout 3 is a big enough title that I bet he'd be okay with it. You could always ask him Wink
Yo, I have been writing a SS NMS route for Fallout 3 with an estimated time of like 1:40 or a little less (haven't finished route). I would sure like to claim a bounty.
Well I think a few other people are eying that one up, so good luck! Tongue

A run without ANY glitches or skips?  Hmmm, I don't know about that.  Small skips or glitches probably would need to be used.

Runs we accept:

1) Major skips/glitches

2) Normal runs with minor skips/glitches if any are useful

3) Runs with absolutely no glitches or skips

The problem is that #3 is slower than #2 if both categories exist for a particular game.  As far as I know, we would not accept a run in the third category if the same run could be done with minor skips and thus be in the second category because it would be unnecessarily slower while achieving the same kind of run (a run without major skips or glitches).

A recurring problem with this bounty is what counts as a skip.  WillingToPay did not say, "no major skips," he said none.  So, what counts?  This is why so many people are asking about what counts.  Does anyone have a trick in mind that would definitely be a short skip but one that would not save a huge chunk of time?  This kind of thing might make the difference.

If getting the run on SDA is important to you, I would DEFINITELY run this by Mike before starting.  There are fluke games like Metroid Prime or Quake that allow a huge variety of runs, but those have always seemed like an isolated minority to me.
Exoray
#3 is not a valid category at SDA. Since you can't determine what counts as a glitch or not, there's no way to know if a run was glitchless or not. This has been discussed countless of times so if you don't agree, take it to one of those topics Smiley

Well, that's overstating it just a bit.  My Toejam and Earl run doesn't use any glitches to save time, and that's acceptable because there aren't any glitches (known) that would help the run.  There are probably a good number of games that don't use glitches to an advantage, because there are probably many games whose glitches don't save time.

Just to clarify:  I wasn't saying that #3 is its own separate category at SDA.  My point was that #2 and #3 are going to fall under the same category, so if you have to run that category (which is: non-major skips or glitches), you're going to choose #2 assuming there are known glitches that would be helpful because it is ultimately quicker to use glitches to your advantage than to not.

Therefore, a run of Fallout 3 that does not use even SMALL glitches or skips is probably going to lose out to any run that uses minor glitches to save time, because both of these kinds of runs would be competing with each other since they're in the same category (non-major skips).  Therefore, #2 beats out #3, so there is no point in doing a #3.

In essence, we are saying the same thing, but with different emphasis.
