Hi I recently started speedrunning and went for the bg1 ss fastest time and believe I have it.
I don't know how to properly time the run however.. (are cutscenes included? character creation? does the run end with the opening of the final cinematic or when the sarevok dialogue box is closed?)

I just based my time on the current record which removes 1 minute 30 from final time when the final cutscene starts. I'm assuming those are cutscenes+character selection but not sure. (It would be a different time if character selection was included). I also noticed his cutscenes are laggier than mine yet the time they take to play look the same.
Any help would be muchly appreciated.

p.s where do I upload my video for review?
Thank you!

Are there any runs online where the timer is displayed?  That would give you a good base for time start/stop in the community.  Here start/stop times can sometimes be different.  To maintain consistency SDA generally times from the time you gain control of your character to the time you lose control of your character.  As an example, my Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers all zones run on here has a time of  13:13.  In the timing method we use in the RR community, that run was a 13:15.  So to determine timing, watching a run with a timer in it if they exist will go a long way.

There are no runs online that I have found which have a timer. If i post my run for consideration though i'm assuming they will use the same rules for time that were used in the old runners record in which case mine is faster. Thanks for your help, i'll submit my video and see what happens Smiley

Get an old school stopwatch with huge digital numbers, duct tape it to the lower right or lower left corner of your screen, press the start button in time with the moment in the game you gain control of your character, and just let it run throughout the remainder of your run past where the control of your character stops.

That would be interesting to see, probably for the first time in ever.  And no need to transfer to an editing program to add it in post artificially.

Only problem is that you'd have to do the amazing feat that most "camera pointing at screen recordering players" fail to do, which is use a typical test shot of the game and manual focus, white balance, and exposure controls to get all those set in advance, including the digits of the timer clearly visible, and then accomplish it like that.  It would be amazing if someone actually did for once (no one seems to ever care about F/WB/E in screen recording).

Oh yeah, and there's also room lighting and reflection off the TV to worry about.

I'd advise playing in the dark EXCEPT for a controlled directional light pointed only at the timer from a C-stand on the opposite size of the TV and pointed diagonally down towards the timer and continuing off to the floor.  At least that would be my first try with the lighting setup.
