I need to find a game to try and speedrun. But I know so few games.

Here is a short list of what I hope to find:

1. A PC-game. (For many reasons).
2. Sidescrolling platformer. (Twists are ok, like RPG-platformer, Action-platformer and so on).
3. It shall take 10-60 min to perform a run. Pref around 30 mins. (Im a family father with a full time job and hobby's).
4. If possible, 8-16bit graphics. This is not a must. (I grew up with Nintendo and Super Nintendo).
5. Pref in English, and pref on Steam or any other digital stores like that.

All you need to do is to name games, then ill do the googel.
Any tips is much appreciated.

Recently looked at Maldita Castilla (saw the race at SGDQ2015), and it seems awesome. But more tips is needed for me to make a final choice, since I only have time to concentrate at one game.

Thanks in advance!

A few:

- Super Meat Boy
- FEZ
- VVVVVV
Hi and thank you!
Super Meat Boy i have played already and even if it is a good game its nothing i want to speedrun.
Fez im gonna buy, it looks fun and really good.
VVVV has that reversed gravity-thing, not sure i liket that. Ill try it if a chance comes tho since it looks fun at least.

Again thanks for the tips Cheesy
Cave Story and Shovel Knight come to mind, but might be a little bit beyond your time requirements (Around 1 hour for Cave Story and 50 minutes for Shovel Knight, I think)

Freedom Fall is a great indie platformer on Steam, and apparently speedruns come in around 20 minutes.

I also really like So Many Me, also on Steam. I'm not sure how long a speedrun of that game would be, but I think there'd be some really cool tricks in it.
Freedom Fall seems to be my kind of game! Im gonna check it out some more. 20 mins seems like a perfect timeframe too Cheesy

Shovel Knight is really fun but too long. Cave Story ive only heard about. But i prefer games that dosent go to the hour.
Highly recommend Escape Goat 2.  It's not a sidescrolling platformer, as all the rooms are fully shown, but it's a great puzzle platformer and the movement can be optimized a lot for speedruns.  20 minutes for any%, 1 hour for 100%.
Yea i saw that game on a stream once, it looked good and solid. Ill add it to my wishlist and check it out!
Thanks! Cheesy
I actually just bought Freedom Fall, gone through 3 levels now and i think this has potential! Alot of it! its really really fun Cheesy
Glad I could help with a recommendation Smiley I don't think many people, if any, are still running it, but if you find any tricks or skips, you should post in the Freedom Fall thread here: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/freedom_fall__steam.html
Shantae: Risky's Revenge. The current any% route is well under 30 minutes, though the old (and MUCH easier) is around 45. It's on Steam, looks like a 2D PSX game in graphics quality, in English....about the only thing is that it's a Metroidvania rather than stage based.
