my op4 is screwed at the moment i have reinstall..... ill gladly investigate the barnacle+displacer...
and i dont think the map changes because theres no loading sequence....hmm must have taken mappers some time to get it right.....
okay this is badly out of topic but anyone interested in helping a newbie(me :-[) to do a (speed)run of theyhunger part 2?....help will be appreciated

Well, at least I am here sometimes, I just don't post much anymore. Me and Dark_Devil also actually worked on a Sweet Half-Life re-run, but he haven't been online on msn or steam for 23 days now. I hope nothing bad happend to him.

hehe I didnt know that entity room yet. I guess you need noclip to get there?

But I knew about that elevator ... no idea why its there though... in half-life there are often map change triggers that dont make much sense ... often in places you can only reach with noclip

but sometimes even without .... for example the first room/map in xen in the original half-life ... i remember decompiling it once and I also found a map change trigger ...

you have to use the gauss to shoot yourself far out in order to hit it ... and you need a lot of luck since its invisible and quite small... but i once did it.
If I remember correctly that trigger teleports you to a different Xen map ... but outside the actual boundaries... there is nothing you can do there

ya i required noclip and about the change triggers i once saw an invisible room right behind you at the start of xen....theres some sort of teleportin it which teleports you back to the start point..and theres strange water type thingy below it and i remember seeing some floating box in the middle of nowhere....i guess thats the trigger?....you can also skip the load trigger and fall down to bottom of xen with water thingy...and there water above you so if you gren jump up and press crouch jump you can reach all three towers....found these myself Grin
and well you can get snarks in blue shift...i can post a vid if you dont know..
I tried the displacer+barnacle+satchel thing today
and IT WORKS Cheesy

at least in that map where you get the barnacle gun ... i tried in a few other spots but could not get similar results

if you do it in that map where you get the barnacle ... you will have to blow up the satchel pretty fast ... if you wait too long you will rise out of the map and be stuck
If done correctly you will end up in a room not far (obviously) .... oddly enough you don't get teleported to Xen ... and not even to the place to which you would be teleported if you came back from xen

Not much interesting so far ... BUT it seemed to me that I had low gravity in the normal world ... just like you should have in Xen ... and I think it even stays across map changes .... so you might be able to play the rest of the game with low gravity
I really need to do more tests with that ... I didnt keep the low gravity but tried to get further in the game so I could try that trick in other maps too

But I could not get it to work in other maps....
First of all there arent many barnacles in the rest of the game... just a few
With a few barnacles I would just teleport to the top of the ceiling and get killed by the barnacle very fast...
With another I ended up so far outside of the map that I could not see anything ...



Regarding the weird map change triggers



this is the trigger I was talking about
its in the far end of the box and really not easy to hit with a gauss jump ... even if you know where it is

and its really invisible ... what you saw must be something else

there are often small rooms outside of the actual level... those are usually used for some special purpose... for example to make some teleportation effects ... the player is teleported in such a room, some flashing effects are played and then the player is teleported to his actual destination

Or sometimes those room are used to render lighting for objects in the game that behave like a train (follow a certain track) ... since the game does not have dynamic lighting you have to use small tricks to get a normal light on such object ...
The trick is to place it in a room outside of the map, with the desired lights around... the lighting is then calculated for the train. Once you play the map the train will be automatically placed on the track ... but it will keep the light from that room in which it was before

The only map besides of4a3 that has barnacles after you get displacer weapon is of5a1, didn't work well there as you said (or are there more maps which has barnacles?)
of5a1 is where the barnacles are above water? Those were the ones were I got teleported to the ceiling and killed by the monster

I think there was at least one more pack of barnacles ...

In the map where you have to kill the Geneworm (or what his name was Tongue ) ... there is this sidemap where you have to activate that gearbox (?) ... you have to activate a big waste crusher to get some crates out of your way and then jump down ... and you only can get back up by having the water rise there

anyway near the button that activates that crusher ... there are a few more barnacles

I think those were the ones that teleported me very far outside the map ... I couldn't even tell if I was rising because there was no real reference point visible ... just a bit of the skybox


I played a bit more with the one place where that trick works ...
and yes... the low gravity effect does remain throughout the game

Well, the effect should disappear as soon as you go to Xen ... i.e. next time you use the displacer ... but I did not try that out yet ...

You're right, forgot about the barnacles at of4a5. And yes, if you go to Xen, the gravity will be normal again as soon as you return to earth. The only place I succeeded to teleport to another place was at the map you get the barnacle weapon, however, you get "outside" the map, since you spawn at the previous map.

okay i am posting a vid about the weird box and down to xen will edit it in and oh yeah slynki about the barnacle in unforeseen consequences i got it to spawn but could never figure out why but now i know and i also got out of map with it  Smiley and can we achieve the out of map like in op4 by throwing a gren at it??will have to try..
i guess i saw the load trigger.....how do you open maps using worldcraft(aka teh hammer)?

okay while playing op4 a weird glitch happened to me....i was at the point where you get the m249 from a soldier i wrenched it in blood and immediately picked it up and there was a weapon on the ground to O_o so i picked it up and changed weapon and then i couldnt change back even though the gun was working...this also bugged the rocket..
The black box you were standing on was for teleportation effects
The orange one on the other side is for the lighting of some objects

In order to open maps in worldcraft/hammer you have to decompile them to .map format.
I use a program 'Winbsp' for that.
The output is usually quite a mess... but it works to examine how the scripting in the maps is done

That and to get to the bottom of the pit. I was so happy when I got down there and realized there wasn't an insta-kill barrier. My second favorite barnacle would have to be in We've Got Hostiles that I used to get into that secret room underneath the map. And finally, the barnacles tronbot spawned right in the middle of Blast Pit. Christ we did some fun, awesome stuff. Getting to the bottom of Surface Tension, underneath Gonarch's Lair, Gonarch to Interloper, the infinite health glitch, getting the train off the tracks in On a Rail, jumping out of the train in Black Mesa Inbound... Yeesh, weren't we crazy enough at one point to trick out the giant blue robot? I can't wait to land a v.1.1.1.0 of Half-Life, I owe you guys one sexy video Cheesy

I use Bsp2map, I think it's better caus it doesn't make extremely huge brushes all over the map.

well you have it there in the editor right in front of you Smiley

I did not load it in the editor ... but the way it works should be the following way:

That pink block ... that should actually be 2 blocks in the same space
A trigger_multiple ... a trigger that can be activated many times
And a trigger_push (I think that was the name) ... it pushes the player (and any object) in a certain direction ... upwards in this case

Once the trigger_multiple is activated, a sound is played and that moving part of the bouncing thingy is activated
The trigger_push itself should be active constantly ...

The animation of that bouncy thingy is done with 2 parts
A static part thats just part of the map (maybe func_wall so the floor does not get cut during compilation)
And a 'spike' that moves up from the floor when activated ... the spike must be a func that can go up and down ... maybe just func_door

nice one Cheesy i thought that it will be the counter-strike door bug (you can close doors by double ducking in cs 1.6).
This looks like those "random mess up" bugs, when someone is ducking and the other one stands close to him and suddenly the standing player will be under the ducking one (i have no idea how to re-create it but it's common in counter-strike).
