Just so we don't continue to clog the collected Half-Life runs topic. Brandon, don't destroy this one XD!

Well, this was a project of mine that I started long ago, and never finished, mostly out of fear of v.1.1.1.0 demos. It was mentioned again in the collected thread, so I decided to start it up again. Much to my surprise, demos aren't actually that terrible in v.1.1.1.0, you just have to know how to manipulate them. Hehe.

Corhellion and I started off by finding most of the shortcuts at the beginning of this project, but since it started up again, along comes laughing_gas and TheVoid, finding out that my two impossible shortcuts actually work. Amazing what those early grenade did for this run o_o;

So far, LG has completed a run on hard in 11:24, and I hear Brandon is trying to compete with me in the Easy category ; )

Here's a link to LG's run:

http://files.filefront.com/They_Hunger_speed_runavi/;6120102;;/fileinfo.html

I haven't actually watched it yet, but I plan to... Now, you must understand that there is no such thing as an armored vest and helmet, a PCV or an HEV suit present in this MOD. You only have health. That means a run on Easy will be infinitely superior to the Hard time, because you can add in a couple other grenade hops. Just FYI ._.;

I wanted to post the first two demos of my run here along with LG's run, but they're pretty slow and poorly executed (they didn't seem that way when I was actually doing them o.O), so I'll refrain from posting them until they're all mighty and such. 9 seconds to get out of the water and 27 seconds through the catacombs and to the next loadzone!? C'mon! I can get 8 and 25 seconds here! : )

Further They Hunger discussion should be placed here, just so we leave the collected thread alone. Wish me luck with this one >_<;

Happy running to you as well, Brandon.

EDIT: By the way, v.1.1.1.0 demos aren't my only concern while running. My computer has a tendency to freeze randomly, and after it's unfrozen, my mouse sensitivity will drastically change. Sometimes it'll be slow and smooth like it used to be, but since I've been playing with the forced high sensitivity for so long, my bunny hopping will suffer majorly. Then I'll get another freeze, and one wrong flick of my hand and I'll go careening into a wall.

Frustrating when technology is trying to forbid you from completing a run. The worst is when my computer freezes during a demo, because then the demo crashes, and I lose what is always an extremely nice demo. Grr. Oh well : )

Run updates:
This is just a little place you can refer to if you're actually interested in my run.

At the moment, I'm 4 segments in, I'm at the first house. Don't know the time, but I'm under a minute if I'm not mistaken. Got a lot more to go. I'd say I'm about 10% into the game, as a fair estimate. With the next shortcut, however, I'll be somewhere in the range of 40-50% through the game : )

Is your computer really old? Perhaps that's why it crashes so often.

Well, when I first came around these parts, I was complaining that I didn't have Windows XP, because that's what you need for CamTasia or FRAPs to run. When I finally got XP, there was a lot of problems with it, including CamTasia and FRAPs giving me the middle finger. Suspiciously, before that upgrade, my computer NEVER acted up this way. Since XP, it freezes every so often. Really weird...

I would remove XP if it didn't have WMM, which I'll need for my Halo tricking videos. Grr.

That's strange - I have Windows XP and Fraps (and They Hunger) work just fine.
I'm a Half-Life runner ;)
Well, once again, good luck with this project.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
i never really liked the half-life series but i like watching the runs for some reason, so good luck.

is this mod your talking about like a zombie mod?

Yes, it's pretty much a survival horror game.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
oh nice, i just watched the video after just seeing the link after my first post. this will deffinatly be a mod ill watch.

though im guessing a mod isnt agaisnt the rules then? if you can make a run on them or does it only stay in the forum after its finished?

SDA only hosts runs of commercial games, but runs of mods are collected in this thread in case anyone is interested.

Slynk, look in the other topic, I've found a way to save a lot of time (Not much, but still a lot).

PoCari, that is strange. Windows XP isn't an OS i like to use, and i would never recommend it to anybody, but with proper maintaining and installation, it should work at least properly.

How did you install it and all? I've seen around a dozen of problems, all concerning installation using the proper method, or XP screwing something during install (rare).
XXY
XP doesn't matter. It screwed up my computer, whatever. It'll probably be removed soon, and I'll try to get a different editing program for Windows 98.

And Brandon, do you mean the grenade hop over the car and essentially not using the train? Hehe, I found that long ago. For my run, I'm trying to grenade hop over the car, and keep that speed all the way to the dam. It was my thinking that I could jump along the sides of the dam, jump towards a zombie soldier, and up over the barrier, still keeping my speed all the way to the barn.

However, the likely hood of a shortcut like that working is very slim, so I may take the dam slow, then grenade hop over the barrier and keep my speed to the barn. There's health packs lying about the ending area, so my grenade hop to the very last area will work nicely.

I recorded my demos, how do I put them all together in virtualdub?

It would be better if you'd use an avisynth script. (Prevents sound desynchronization.)

Code:
a = avisource("1.avi")
b = avisource("2.avi")
c = avisource("3.avi")
d = avisource("4.avi")
e = avisource("5.avi")
f = avisource("6.avi")
g = avisource("7.avi")
AlignedSplice(a,b,c,d,e,f,g)

etc etc.

You use the option "append avi segment". Open the first segment, then append the second segment, and so on.

Uhhh...how? I don't know anything about virtual dub.

And then stare at/listen to the sound desynch....
You said you have problems with movies audio-video synching? That's why. The audio track in each demo is shorter than video track. Audio track is aligned without a spare space with the second audio part, and video part one is aligned without space with the second one. Thus, the audio desynchs more and more thorough the video.

Brandon: http://speeddemosarchive.com/kb/index.php/Avisynth <- everything should be here. Read the Introduction part closely - it has tips on how to turn the scipts on and how do they work.

Making the video... on: Today at 11:23am

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I read everything on that link (http://speeddemosarchive.com/kb/index.php/Avisynth#Part_2:_Loading_the_s ource_files). But, I downloaded Avisynth and made me .avs file. I used the:

a = avisource("1.avi")
b = avisource("2.avi")
c = avisource("3.avi")
d = avisource("4.avi")
e = avisource("5.avi")
AlignedSplice(a,b,c,d,e)

Method, but what do I do now? I put all the files in the zip file into the plugins file, I put my .avi files into the plugins, and I also put the .avs file containing the code above, but what do I do now? I've read the link you gave me a lot of times, but I can't find what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should post this question in the tech support section.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Very impressive, cant wait to see this run perfected along with the other They Hungers.

I think I know the solution. I'll edit the post with the link later to download it.

My computer absolutely fucking hates me. I haven't even made it out of the catacombs yet, because my bunny hopping is suffering so badly lately, it's unbelieveable. First I was just waiting for a good enough attempt that I would be satisfied with, then my mouse speed changed back to slow, then it went really REALLY fast again.... Jesus Christ this is horrible. I've never had this much trouble with bunny hopping. Ever. I've been tricking and playing Halo for so long it's like I've forgotten how. I was doing fine with the normal mouse sensitivity, then it started going ape shit and my technique went down the drain. Ugh.

My mouse is like, right beside my keyboard, and bunny hopping down those catacombs at top speed is hard, because the walls are angled, and if you snag one, your timing is done. Sometimes I have to sharply turn, but with the slow speed, I'll hit my keyboard and not be able to turn too well with my wrist. Then when it gets really really fast, it's just too sharp. Man I'm having some real problems with this. It's as I feared.

Sadly this is the only demo I can throw out for now. I'll practice my bunny hopping for awhile, and see if I can it back. It's actually scary, losing all of your speed in the course of a second because you pushed the wrong button because of a stupid blinking light in the hallway. Grr. I'm gonna go play Halo and relax a little ._.;

Open the avs file in virtualdub, choose compression options, save as and viola. Btw what's your final time?

I thought it was going to be longer, but then I remembered there was a loading zone there  Tongue

The game says the demo was made with an old version of the .dll, but somehow it can still play it.

Yeah, I think I have the oldest possible version of They Hunger. Corhellion said the bloody headcrabs are actually supposed to be skulls, and I noticed in your door shortcut video, your grenades actually looked like pimpbombs rather than just grenades like mine do. Maybe it's something like that ._.;

Anywho, for the catacombs, I'm gonna speed jump through them, then when I hit the door, I'm gonna start a new segment there. Cheap, yeah, but the catacombs are tricky.
