Watching it now, and I'll make some comments/suggestions as I go along...

Segment 4: In Grey Imports, any vehicle you drive into the mission marker at the warehouse becomes fireproof and explosionproof. That's why it wasn't affected by the exploding barrels.
i'm currently watching the run with the commentary and i must say: it is very entertaining.
are there any other speedruns you did with commentary, because i really love it?! it's much more entertaining and you gain some insight on the run. but the thing i love most about the commentary is the trivia stuff about the game, the behaviour of the AI and such.

keep up the very good work

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Have watched the first 2 segments, then had the bright idea to copy your run and aim for sub 6:30 run on an improvement of my very own 9:39 run...

The execution is far out must have taken hours for each segment. I know it took me like 5 hours to get to Lifes a Beach by 6:00 in segment 2 (i got there faster than you by 10 seconds in the end though ;)). i also didn't really understand what you were doing  with the car at the beginning of segment 1, didn't bother downloading the commentary.

i will enjoy the rest of your run

p.s i am 3 minutes behind you after 2 segments if you care

Some people think they can outsmart me.
I'm also watching it.

My favorite so far is the train mission with Big Smoke and the dirt bike. Shooting the locomotive engineer, then climbing on top of the train and shooting the gangers was just incredible. That had to save at least 3 minutes. I couldn't believe how many shots each one of them takes.

Great run so far!

I'm going to watch it through the first time without commentary, then the second time with comments.
I hope that the time will be about 5:55. Also i have found numbers of mistakes. I did SA speedrun later, but it has bothered me, and i stoped at the "Black Project". But my time (At the black project) is about 3:50 against your ~4:03. Maybe in summer i shall complete this, but not now. I can upload some of my parts, if somebody intrested of this. Anyway, nice work.
Speed is the key.
I'm definately interested in seeing any more San Andreas goodness, this game is pure joy to watch (it's also fun to play, for that matter).  Smiley
I don't wanna Hijack the Thread but if you guys still want videos I have up to the second city in SA 100% speedrun. It is located in my Sig.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
audio comments are the way to go.

I lost my mood for San Andreas. I just cant play it anymore. If i would i would certainly do a any%/100% run cause i can run the game in a Window so my computer does not freeze. But currently its only WoW, Warcraft3, Guitar hero games, Oblivion

I'm not finished, but so far this looks very good, Cannibal.
Run, you pigeons. It's Robert Frost!
Just finished it today. I feel like we're really good friends after listening to your whole commentary.

I HAVE NO GREETING
Recently finished watching it with the commentary and all, brilliant job.

I really love speed runs with commentary, spices things up a bit.

Overall, amazing job and I look forward to watching more of your runs in the future!
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Today I finished to watch the run. The audio commentaries are really useful, they keep you entertained in boring parts and explain some situations, which might seem to be stupid-planned without explanations.

I also like the commentary. It is nice to get some validation on things which I considered a "close call". And I like the "stream of consciousness" methodology of the commentary.

Is 800 attempts a summation of the total attempts of all segments? Or was that just for the segment I was watching (segment 6, I think, with the quad-bikes and Catalina)?

Lastly, I have to ask.

CannibalK9: By any chance, do you have a mohawk, multiple piercings and tattoos, and work as an EMT (ambulance Emergency Medical Technician)?

100% runs=great to watch
Great run, excellent commentary, has inspired me to track down that 100% run and watch it at some point in the not distant future---as I really did enjoy the Vice City 100% run. Grin

give me your eyes!!!
Soo busy, been neglecting pretty much everything... anyway! Thanks again everyone, it's nice to see the commentary being enjoyed in particular as I'm quite self-conscious about my voice. That's a crazy improvement SCM, since I squeezed all I could out of it - I'm extremely curious!

Erk, that was just for that segment, bikes are made of hate and dead cats.

That's a really specific question... I have to say I don't come close to any of them, unless you count being in the presence of EMTs on a number of occasions?
CannibalK9, check your PMs! (trust me, this has to do with San Andreas)
give me your eyes!!!
Hey, thanks or the offer. As evidenced by my lack of response I think I may be too busy but it sounded like fun. I'll check it out again later on perhaps.

I second this. It was truly fantastic, almost better way better than actually playing the game.
I LOVED the speed run. So much quality speedrunning I think this is one of the most impressive runs on the site for sheer amount of research. It actually inspired me to go back, install GTA:SA and play though the entire thing. All the parts I couldn't beat I easily on my own, I just looked at your strategy. The commentary was amazing as well. I'll watch any speedrun with commentary, and this is a perfect example of why.

I, have actually been thinking of doing my SS run of this game.  Roll Eyes
Cause, my brothers PC is here and he allows me to use it to play games. And i am atm pirate-stealing-it from the internet the game.
So, when thats done. I been thinking of doing my SS with fraps, and just have it for fun, and maybe publish here on the site if its good enough. I think its the longest SS if i do that (around 6 or 7h i guess). But some things i got in my mind :

1. I need to practice to get gold on every Flying school challenge, or well,  i can just put a sea sparrow in the garage to use that.
2. I need to practice the whole run....
3. Where shall i upgrade lung capacity?
4. Im struggling with the fraps files, my bro only got 160gb hdd and its like 15gb left, maybe I can have my PC on and record the run to that which I can clean to have 40gb left.
5. I would have to :
Code:
1. Record.2. Pause the game, and stop recording. 3. Virtualdub it to small file. 4. Remove original. 5. Continue. and so on,...or if someone knows how to change your home networks shared folder on a windows xp pc plz telll me

General facts :
1. I do this on my brothers pc cause :
Code:
1. it pwnz (runs Assasins creed on highest graphics without lagging.
2. Dont freeze in full screen.
3. I can use max Draw Distance and other stuff, I will still only play in 800x600 to reduce movie size.

2. I dont know if I will go crazy becuase off failuring the last mission (OMFG 7hours OF WASTE OF LIFE)I.

So yeah, let me know if any of you are interested =)
Protip: If a segmented run takes over six hours and thousands of retakes, I don't think a casual any% single segment will be very easy.

As for the run, the commentary made it extremely enjoyable. I watched the entire thing in two sittings (two hours and four hours respectively) and didn't fast forward a bit because I didn't want to miss a line of commentary. I've only played the PS2 version, and I'd have to say it makes aiming in close quarters amazingly simple once CJ gets skill with a weapon. To take out huge rooms of people, you could just lock on, hold fire, and cycle through the targets quickly and each would get a headshot immediately. In my knowledge, the MP5 is highly superior to the machine pistols, especially in a speed run because although the ability to dual-wield machine pistols makes up for its weaker firepower, you didn't even get the pistol all the way up until the Big Smoke fight, negating any value.

Or maybe I'm just wrong.

40 gb are a very small space for such a very long run. your idea counts as a segmented run i think (but ask mike there).

if you would do such a run i would recommend a new hdd. you can get much space for some bucks and even in sweden a it wouldnt be too expensive.  Wink

to keep the fraps files small you should turn every on low and record on 640x480
You'd need about 150GiB to record an 8 hour run in Fraps, assuming 640x480 and 30fps. If you try the "pause, encode, play" method, I doubt SDA will accept it (but nothing stopping you from keeping it yourself of course). I think I'd go insane trying that method though.

TBH I think you should just go and buy a drive to use for this. Space is cheap, you can get a suitable drive for less than £40 ($80, €50) now.
I have 200gb in total on my pc. (160gb and 40gb). So if anyone knows how to record from my bros pc to my pc on my second hdd let me know. The game will be 800x600 but in FRAPS i have half-size so i guess it will bel ike 400x300.

and yes, i actually practiced to day,  from start to like half san fierro, then me boreness took over and maked me quit the game =P i think the time was like 3h iiirc, although i had eated like 10+ meals on cluckin bell i.e. and i used lots of body armor. ah well, well see. if this will happpen. may take some time since i get gh3 for 360 this week w00h00
