I also want to start with speedrunning, but I can't find a good game to start. I love Dark Souls and I am pretty good but speedrunning or challenge running it is really hard. Does someone know a good 2D Speedrun game? Something like the old Castlevania for PC?
Thread title:
Rad... They have taken me...
Outside of the typical Mario, Megaman, and Castlevania titles. The Rayman series is fantastic. Especially Rayman Legends as every level is designed for maximum speed. Though I must also suggest The Adventures of Rad Gravity for NES as I'm currently running it and trying to bring it out of the shadows and raise awareness of it's overall awesomeness.
I must warn you though, running Rad Gravity IS A CHALLENGE! Instant death awaits around many corners and over many platforms, luckily dying doesn't constitute 'Game Over', it will simply set you back time-wise. New players may find this frustrating but successfully manoeuvring the game is extremely gratifying!
I'm also starting with speedrunning, and I choosed Shinobi for Master System. The game is cool, short and although it is a quite simple game, it is quite challenging to speedrun it (ahrgh ... those ninjas ...). I think that short and simple platformers are good to start. Also, before choosing Shinobi, I was considering running Wonderboy (the first one, also on SMS), for the same reasons : cool, short, and simple ... even if it is quite linear sometimes.
Four legs good, two legs bad.
