Do you know the Muffin Man?
Why don't you guys have small contests for the average player that would love to do a speed run but just can't seem to get things done? They can be small things like doing a particular trick, doing a range run (completing the run between two certain times that are well within average but the player cannot be seen to dawdled at any point), or whatever. It'll be a good way to get more people active.

Also, can we have a few more spoiler runs? (Ones that include the stories) because I cannot afford every game out there and for most of them, I just want the story Cheesy
Thread title:
omg! wtf?
..as in the special olympics? no thanks! Cheesy
details details people...

If your not good enough to do a run, that's your problem. You can do speed runs for fun, but don't expect a seperate section to pop up just because some people aren't as good at a game as other people are. I guess that's what TG is for though. You don't have to be first there to get into the site.

Weeeeeeeee! Way to go to try and form a community!  Tongue

Treat your eyes to the Quake part of SDA! We have contests where everybody can compete. Buckets of fun.

As for this part, unless the game has an in-game timer that A) works and B) doesn't include cutscenes, the "stories" would count for time and therefore be detremential to the run.
.
Heh, I'd prefer to do things I haven't seen (100% OOT lol) or just compete with the top scores.
MGS for PS1 forever.
I don't speedrun Quake because I'm not that good at it. I speedrun games that I'm good at and if you don't like that then bite me.

I don't speedrun Quake because it's been done to death. ;(
I love default messages!
Ah, QdQ...I enjoyed the speedruns on the id levels, but when it expanded into user-made levels it kinda pushed it too far.

On the topic of average runs, I think it circumvents the idea of the site, which is to run through the game as fast as possible.

Still, though, you could just practice a lot and become better than average  ;D. It seems to me that a lot of people who submit runs have played the game to death. I see a lot of "I'm never playing this game again" or "once I get sub-X I'm done."

The equation for a good speedrunner:

Time + Dedication + (Insanity^2) = Patience. For every minute of time you spend on the game, you lose one patience point. When you hit 0 patience, you start gaining insanity points ;D.

So there you go. Simply have a lot of time, a lot of dedication, or be completely insane and you too can be a pro speedrunner  ;).
welcome to the machine
Actually, the formula is insanity^3 + luck^2 + skill^-1 - however much your recording equipment hates you.
Still alive...
