oki, hope that it wont take you so long to get it done now, maby you have learnd something new making the old run so that it will be easy to speed it up!!!
Hi! I'm just posting to say that I want you to know that there are a lot of people, including me, looking forward to this run like it was the second coming of christ. I hope you have what it takes to finish the run even though people haven't been very forthcoming here at SDA.
I wish that all the Square speedruns that are beeing mad now could come up like tomorrow, so that I could get my greedy litle hands on them right then ! ! !
I'm finally going to begin the run again since I've resolved my capture card issues, and now the quality will be much better. I guess I won't have enough time to finish it by this weekend, but I'll get it done as soon as I can without rushing.
Ok, just wanted to update this run. After the decision to make the Omega part a side thing and not being the objective, I wanted to see if there was any way to change planning and use The End somewhere to save time. I found out, it just wont help, ever.
The Diablos fight is the only place that might help, but the probability of getting The End is so slim that by the time I get it to come up, it will be longer than just fighting him head on. Also, even if it does come up, I by mistake skip it as I go through it (I was trying this and had to reset about 20 times just for it to come up once before I die, and I skipped it...). I just realized that the only way it would ever possibly save time is the Omega battle, but since that will be an added extra, I wont be doing that.
I would be intereseted in joining the run, but you've mostly found everything to make it fast. And I've started on 2 other FAQ projects, so I can't be bothered with this, atm. Plus I do have finals coming soon.
One thing though, you are going to type the new Speed Run for gamefaqs, correct?

Yeah I know, I was kinda dumb wasn't I?
I might do the FAQ, most likely not. The run will basically show everything and the author's notes could just explain the reasons of what is done.
Finally, I just finished recording the final segment! My time is about 8:47 at the final slash on Ultimecia. This is a huge amount of difference compared to the Game FAQs Speed Guide, which was ~ 14:30! I'm extremely happy to finally finish this game. Now I'm just going to try and finish the extra Omega part and it will all be over.
Hey. Congratulations, I'll definitely be downloading this when I get the chance.
Out of curiousity though, does a high strength Quick Ammo Irvine (Meltdown on the enemy of course) have a part in this run? I just figured it would be a good way to kill things without Zell.
I don't use fast ammo because I never get Ammo RF. I do use Irvine when I get the chance. No meltdowns either in this run, I will use one against Omega of course, but no Irvine.
By the way, if anyone was wondering if I sacrifice some time for the Omega part. I don't, not even a single second, as it would sully the run for something extra. I do however, seam them both together extremely well where you have that 5 minutes in the Lunatic Pandora mission.
22 segments total, 11 on the first disk. Once I get Enc-None I use less segments to save time. I still can't believe my time though, sub 10 seemed very hard a while ago.
Please let this run go up. This is one of my favorite Final Fantasy games.(though I only played 8&9). I wanna play this game again but I don't feel like it so I'll be very happy just watching.Plus I never saw the Omega fight.
Well done! That is (in my opinion) an excellent time to finish the game, although FFVIII does scale itself on your levels to make it a tad easier. Bravo!
FUCK! I just found out I'm missing segment 16, and segment 17 was renamed 16. So there are 23 segments total. I have to redo that segment, but will it be ok? I mean it will go about exactly the same way, since there are no random encounters.
