It does save time. You shouldn't skip Celes though, because she's necessary for the World of Ruin. If she's skipped, you get a Moogle instead, who has poor stats and cannot be equipped.

I think he's trying to say that you should go through the passage backwards. It skips the whole stealing clothes sequence.

Oh, I'll definitely get Celes. There's no way I'm having Locke fight Tunnel Armor by himself. I did wonder what would happen if you didn't pick her up, though.

Fighting tunnel armor is no problem if you get the thunder rod coming back through- obtained by skipping the chest on your first time through with terra,locke and edgar. using it as an item does about 2K to the boss and im my exp normally kills it outright.

First off, best of luck with this. An SS run of any RPG is bloody insane, and I'd love to see you pull it off (especially if you can beat the segmented time)!

I haven't played this game recently enough to be useful, but I've played it enough times to have questions:

How much do you plan to abuse the Moogle Charm? Prety much every chance you get, or will there be points where you ditch it for level and spell purposes?

Are you planning on getting any characters outside of Cyan, Mog, and maybe Sabin in the WoR?

What (if any) detours are you going to take for equips, accessories, or abilities along the way?

And one tip, I'd be surprised if you didn't already know it, but it hasn't been mentioned. Make sure to strip Mog in the first "team" battle in the Narshe Mines. Makes Edgar a powerhouse in the early stages.

Nothing is certain yet in my strategy, but I'll tell you what I'm thinking right now.

I'm hoping that I won't have to level up or learn spells at all in the WoR, so I'll be (ab)using it as much as possible. This means I'll get Mog before getting Cyan, but I'm not sure yet whether it would be better to get Sabin at the first chance or wait until I have Moogle Charm. Levels won't matter much since I'll mainly be using Joker Doom, Vanish/Doom, and Psycho Cyan.

One Force Armor and once Force SHield can be gotten in Kefka's Tower, so they won't be a problem. Another Force Armor is in Fanatics' Tower and another Force Shield can be gotten from Ice Dragon, so I'll need to determine whether it will be worth it to pick those up. I might try to get an Imp Halberd to give to Cyan once he starts going psycho; without one, it will take him a very long time on the final battles.

As for spells, this is what what I'm thinking about teaching people:
Edgar & Cyan: Vanish
Sabin & Mog: Doom, Break
Celes & Setzer: Imp, Float (Celes will get Imp automatically)

Then the parties in Kefka's Tower can be
1. Setzer & Celes
2. Edgar & Sabin
3. Cyan & Mog

Group 1 does Echo Screen/Joker Doom and groups 2 and 3 do Vanish/Doom on bosses. I'll have two people with Imp to make the Psycho Cyan glitch easier to perform, and Float is so they can survive Tier 1's Quake final attack (which happens even with using the glitch). I don't know that any other other spells are necessary in the WoR.

To learn all these spells in the WoB, I was thinking about taking Edgar and Sabin to Vector, Cyan, Setzer, and Mog to the Cave to the Sealed Gate, and then Setzer and anyone who hasn't learned their spells yet (probably Sabin and Mog) to the Floating Continent. I really need to test this to see if it's feasible, though.

Yes, I know about that. I don't think the Mythril Pike (I think that's what you get from Mog) will be useful, though, because Edgar can do more damage with Autocrossbow.

Yes, I know about that.  I don't think the Mythril Pike (I think that's what you get from Mog) will be useful, though, because Edgar can do more damage with Autocrossbow.

It's sad that one would go through the process of planning for and speedrunning this game only to use the cheap-o instant kill methods for 75% of the game. This is why I'm never interested in FF VI runs: they're snooze-fests.

Then again, I'm always the only one who thinks that, so my opinion doesn't matter.

Smoke bombs. For battles with Gt. Behemoths, Vanish/Doom them and then smoke bomb.

Okay, I'm having trouble with the TAS. I downloaded the emulator movie, but it desyncs partway through, and I can't download the avi because it's only available as a torrent, which I can't get because I live on a university campus. Does anyone know of another way I could get it?

TASvideos has a modified emulator in the Downloads section that fixes most desync problems.

The modified emulator is the one that I'm using. I was just looking at the comments for the video, and it says that it desyncs with a 1.0 ROM, so I guess I don't have the correct ROM. Nate, would you mind sending me the avi?

It is to stop students from downloading songs illegally on that program, mostly or anything of that nature. Also, so the Universities aren't held responsible for allowing their students to download songs illegally. Some Universities are stricter than just blocking it, though. If you use it and are caught, you can get into a lot of trouble or just get a warning letter.

I feel your pain Essentia, my University blocks BitTorrent as well, so it is very hard to watch a lot of the TAS's that I want to watch off of that site.

Edit: Also, I am very thrilled to see this run. I have just recently started playing this game, and I find it to be a very good game. Best of luck to you!!! Smiley

Yeah, I've been there before. I got my connection cut off for 4 months and had to pay 100 dollars for downloading a single movie via a torrent. Strangely enough, my campus doesn't block BitTorrent at all, but now I'm so paranoid I don't want to download any kind of torrent on a university connection, legal or not.

Hmm...now that I think of it, could TAS movies be stretched by some contorted definition to be considered illegal?

They probably can. But mostly they come under 'derivative works' and stuff like that. The only dodgy area is the fact that you must have had the ROM in the first place to make the movie. I think it's legal in some places to dump your own ROMs, but that obviously doesn't happen too often.

I never download avi, I just download the rom and movie file, it's much faster and convenient, plus the college doesn't block it.

Well, not in the current plan. I don't think it would work very well in an SS, mainly because it could possibly take a while to get the Stray Cat rage on the Veldt. The places where it might be useful, I can use Vanish/Doom or Joker Doom instead, unless you had a specific place in mind where Stray Cat would be better.

I just tested the psycho cyan glitch with Gogo, it works as well if you equip him with a knife and give him SwdTech.

You could probably use that to your advantage in Kefka's tower.
