Thanks, mike. I was worried that maybe the segmented run didn't use the trick because it was banned or something. However, if the trick has been discovered only recently, it makes sense.

BTW, ~~I'm pretty sure~~ I know that Psycho Cyan works on the PS (anthology) version of this game--I think that's where I first tried it.

Since this trick is allowed, it's probably going to change the WoR part of this run. Now I really need to do a practice run to see if using this trick will work out.

Yeah, I probably am insane, but thanks! Seriously, though, I don't think it will be too bad. From watching the segmented run (which has pretty long segments), there doesn't seem to be much that relies on luck. It's mainly memorizing everything to do in the game. Since this is my absolute favorite FF game and I've played it more than all the other FF's combined (exaggerating only a little ;)), I already know it really well.

Edit: Also have to be good at manipulating slots for this run--something I've been practicing lately.

(Of course, once I start actually practicing this and seeing how things go, I might find that I'm completely wrong...but I hope not.)

Yeah, that Cyan glitch is crazy and makes levelling pretty much a moot point.

You'll still need Mog with Vanish/Doom, so you'll need to find a way to get Magic Points for him. Setzer can handle the other goddess.

Here's a question, when can/do you learn imp? I believe Terra learns it naturally, unsure about Celes. I also don't remember which Esper teaches you Imp.

Celes learns Imp naturally. I remember because in my casual playthroughs I'd normally learn it somewhere in Zozo and use it on the boss.

Best of luck to you, Essentia, especially seeing as this is just about my favorite game ever, and SSing an RPG is just plain insane.

Yeah, Celes learns Imp naturally. Stray teaches Imp, so it shouldn't be too hard to have some people learn it.

I wonder if it would be worth it to get Mog in the WoB, so he could get some magic points as you go along with the story. The only places he'd be able to do this are in the Cave to the Sealed Gate and the Floating Continent, though, and I'm not sure if that would be enough for him to learn Doom. He also needs the Gem Box (most likely, anyway) if he's going to solo any bosses, which would mean I would still have to get Locke in order to learn Life 3 so I could beat Magi Master. I'd like to avoid getting the Gem Box and getting Locke if possible, though; maybe I could get Sabin instead (since it doesn't take very long to get him), and make sure that he learns either Vanish or Doom beforehand.

I would really like to find a way to completely avoid extra battles to level up/learn magic in the WoR, since now it seems a possibility with the Psycho Cyan glitch.

Now, on a normal playthrough, Mog kicks the crap out of the Cave to the Sealed Gate thanks to his Water Rondo dance, but that is time-consuming. I think you're better off just running from everything there.

In the Floating Continent, Mog's Earth Blues dance happens to be the home dance and it isn't shabby against the creatures there.

As for MagiMaster, you may want to explore the Palidor summon instead. Get MagiMaster to low HP, then summon Palidor. If done right, MagiMaster will use Ultima and only the first couple of characters will be wiped out instead of your party. It's certainly faster than getting Locke and learning Life 3 or Rasping MagiMaster's MP away.

For Cave to the Sealed Gate and Floating Continent, I'll probably use Joker Doom on everything. It's a quick and easy way to get experience and magic points (and possibly faster than running away), as long as I can do it consistently.

The Palidor strategy for MagiMaster would certainly be faster. I'll have to look into that. Thanks.

Sorry for a double post, but I've been thinking more about this and I have a couple questions, if anyone knows the answers.

1. Does Safety Bit protect against Calmness (3rd tier's instant death attack that it performs when you kill it)? I'm pretty sure it does, but does anyone know for sure? I was thinking I could equip this on Cyan to make sure he survives to fight Kefka.

2. During the final battles, does the Psycho Cyan glitch carry over when you move to the next part? Meaning, if I activate the glitch on the first tier and Cyan takes it out, when I move up to the second tier will Cyan automatically start attacking or will I have to activate the glitch again? (If no one answers this before I get home in a few hours, I'll test it myself.)

IIRC, Safety Bit will not save you from that attack. It's a physical instant death attack and not magical.

You'll need good M Block.

Hmm, that's not good if Safety Bit won't protect against it. The problem I'm finding is that if Cyan has high M. Block, when I try to cast Imp on him or kill him (both required for the glitch to work), they always miss. I don't really want to have to rely on luck (especially this late into the run) and hope that it doesn't cast Calmness on Cyan. I suppose if I really need to, I can get Life 3...

However, just a few minutes ago I was trying out the Psycho Cyan glitch on the final battles (the glitch doesn't carry over to each phase, btw), and after I defeated the 3rd tier this way, it didn't cast Calmness at all. I don't ever remember this happening before--it seems that it always casts Calmness at least once. It is a really slow method; Cyan was on level 35 and using the Sky Render, and each tier took over 100 hits to defeat them (the 2nd tier took almost 250). I might try to get an Imp Halberd just to speed things up, although I don't know of any good way to get one.

I was wondering if that would happen. If seems that Psycho Cyan prevents enemies from getting a final attack off. I heard rumors of people using it on Intangirs, and the Intangirs wouldn't be able to cast Meteo before they die. Pity it can't be used against the Magi Master, it would be helpful there.

Well, it doesn't seem that it stops all final attacks. When I killed them with this glitch, the 1st tier still did their Quake and Shockwave final attacks, and the 2nd tier did 10 Hits and Dispel/Quartr. (These all happened after Cyan quit attacking, but right before they died.) I need to try it some more to see if it always stops Calmness.

Edit: I did this a couple more times, and the 3rd tier never did Calmness, so it looks like I don't have to worry about it! Also, when I took out Kefka with this, it didn't show his death animation--he just disappeared like when a regular enemy dies.

Yeah, this game has a ton of bugs/glitches; I've recently been looking through the Bug Guide at GameFAQs.

I've also been watching the segmented run of this game, and I think it can be improved if using Psycho Cyan actually works out in my single-segment run, because you'll be able to avoid a bunch of things in the WoR: leveling up, getting Locke, learning a lot of magic (such as Life 3 and Ultima), and defeating Magi Master. Of course, you'll have to get Cyan (and possibly Sabin since Mog won't have the Gem Box to take out one of the Statues by himself) in the WoR and Mog in the WoB, but I think it will end up saving time. I'm probably going to start a practice run (segmented, of course) sometime this week to see how things work out.

Can this glitch be used in the English version?

If it can, you can meet Celes by going through the tunnel. It would save a lot of time.

That trick is used in the FF6 TASes, it works in the (U) versions anyway.
