Alright I have a run finished! It is way faster than my previous run! Look for it in the submission queue soon! Do I sound excited!?!?

I wanted to test out the information I had read about for the japanese version of chocobo's dungeon so I finally ordered it. So what I was hoping for was that the mini cactuars on floor 21 of the water dungeon would drop 1000 job points like I had read about in some terrible google translations of some japanese guides. That is completely irrelevant as it turns out my initial understanding of floor 11 in the fire dungeon was correct! You can find mini cactuars there that drop 1000 job points. I managed to beat phoenix with white mage job level 7 in an hour, and that was no where near optimized. Heck if holy is this easy to get in the run so early, the over honing on the equipment might not even be necessary. Learning all the japanese equivalents for everything is going to be difficult, but I can see this run getting to the 5 hour mark or lower now that the grinding part is reduced to two fights.

I've followed. How do you identify what items you have in your inventory? Can you read Japanese?

I can figure out most things by the numbers associated with them / description text coloring. I have to learn a couple things like talkie collar and some other ones would be good like happy talons and stuff like that.

I managed to get a halfway decent run on the Japanese version in 4:45:41 which is really only 15 minutes faster than the current record because I stop the run after killing the boss instead of waiting for the half hour of credits to finish to check the final save time (cause gotta go fast). Hey, just picked this up to start doing runs with it. Did a ton of casual speedruns of different games, figured I should get real and start here.
Have the spreadsheet of data (Super useful) but I have a few questions about running it. Is there an IRC or anything set up or should I just ask everything here?

This would be the best place to ask questions. I think me and Crow are the only ones who are active with this game at all. I stream sometimes, but I probably won't run this for a while (unless I get some competition Cheesy

Hey, thanks for the reply!
I'm currently watching your runs and seeing how much that answers. Its things like "What level should I hit before I do ____ boss." I'm also running on the US version, going to see if I can't emulate the Jap version if I start working on times. I'll post back with any questions I have and see if I can't take that WR. Wink

I only have two situations where I try to go for a specific level. The fight against the boss in Cid's dream pretty much requires level 3 and two potions. The only other level requirement is to get to around level 36 before the final boss because it is easy to run out of resources if you are lower than that. Other than that, most bosses die in 2 - 3 rounds of holy except for Alexander, but he is pretty safe regardless. I am super interested in watching any runs so let me know if you stream it or post it to youtube.
