I'm quite interested in this 'run', especially the spell economy, something you never really come across when playing the game normally. I'll host it when it comes up. Don't count on good download speeds though.
Cool. But wouldn't FF8 be kind of an oddball with the rest of the stuff you have there. It just doesn't seem like it would fit in. What about the internet archive? I've seen a bunch of runs there. I don't really know what exactly it does or what it is. I mean does it just link to other sites or host it itself (sorry, all this stuff is pretty new to me)?
I found that Zell is better to use as his Limit can do way more damage than Squall and get as many hits as you need.
Yeah, that FAQ was useless wasn't it
Wow, that was fast lol. It really sucks that I won't be using him in the run, even Omega (change of plans). I was practicing with him and now can easily get in 15 hits per second.
Heh, believe me, they're all games I play... I do just about everything except Sport Sims. But yes, you would be better off uploading it to archive.org, if this is possible. Much more bandwidth.
Well, with school starting and having all AP classes, this will take me a few days to do. I really don't know what to do. Can't put them on computer myself so I need someone to help with that. I've lost a lot of interest in doing this run so if the process proves to be too demanding I'll scrap it. I still want to do it, just not as much as before. Just tired because of school.
My final time in FF8 Speedrun is 11:22. At this point I am toward the door into the Ultimecia`s Room. And I have characters ready to beat Ultimecia in all her forms in about 15-16 minutes. Also all necessary abilities are unsealed(Limit Braek, Magic, Resurrection, Item).

You only need to unseal one thing to beat Ultimacia: limit break (only to quicken things up, she can be beaten with nothing unsealed, but not a good idea). I'm curious to know what you did in your run Shurakaretny.
Since it's the weekend and I don't have much I need to do I think I'll do the Omega speed and see how that goes. Haven't checked back in a while since there's nothing new to say.

I have read the speedFAQ by meh1&Edman and have not understood during what moment there have been received 14 1/2 hours. Also has assumed that during the moment when "The End" appears. Therefore I have unseal abilities quickly to beat Ultimecia for good time! In my case thus takes about 5 additional minutes...

"That sums it up. With these guide lines, you should finish the game in less than 14 hours. However, that's 14 hours of gameplay, not 14 hours in your life...
Please remember that unlike some games, like Final Fantasy 9, there is no prize, apart from bragging rights, for finishing the game as quickly as you can.
Just for the record, Meh1 in his "Speed playthrough" finished the game in 14 1/2 hours."
What you skipped, what you didn't skip. Ya know, stuff like that. Once I finish the Omega run and get a time, I'll post everything in detail. Most of the ideas I came up with were made in theory and weren't really tested so I want to see exactly how it'll work before I explain.
Just finished disk one with a time of 3:19. I might do the last segment again because I forgot to change what Ifrit is learning to Str+40%. It's not too important because I only missed 20 AP from Edea. If you were to do it perfectly with as little random encounters as possible and 1 save (to skip getting the student ID), you'd probably take off 2-3 minutes max.
I just realized I took off a lot more time than I had earlier estimated. Maybe it can be beaten in 10 hours...
Great. I simply have not guessed in the my speedrun to guess the password! To me it is hardly trusted in this figure as it is a lot of stages which it is impossible to pass. Though I took ID and Brothers!

This factor cannot be operated, as all fights come through the certain quantity of steps! And some fights are planned in the certain points! And you cannot avoid them without No-Enc!

Whether all depends on that you have saved time for the first disk that you should make on the second or the third!

Well, not really. When I go get Ifrit I always count how many battles I get into by the time I get back to Garden and it is usually different each time. In the part where you are leaving the Dollet tower I never get into a random encounter but the last time I went through there I got into one. It's that small part right before X-ATM092.
It is calculated by a certain amount of steps but I think the way it works is that the more steps you take, some hidden stat increases that calculates the probablity of an encounter. It adds a certain random ammount for each movement you make and after it reaches a certain number, you get into an encounter. Certain areas would increase the hidden stat more than others (like Island Closest to Hell). I always thought it worked this way but I've never confirmed it to be true.
It makes sence if you think about it. And if you were to do it perfectly, you would go through certain areas over and over until you get the lowest possible amount of ecounters.
Also I just remembered more time could be taken off 3:19 If I were to do the card battles better. It's really annoying to get the Quistis card to show up in a few amount of card battles. When it finally showed up in my second match I got nervous and took an excesive amount of time to beat her.
I'm guessing the best time for the first disk with having enough stuff for the rest of the game would be 3:11 or 12. But that would require pure perfection in the card battles.

I the excellent player in cards also had no problems with one card, even Queen of Cards{Maps} enough came easily to me. For recieving Quistis it is necessary to win one game at Trepes, then at them appears Quisty.. Therefore and time 3:19 is interesting to me... I was 4:21, but I went in Tomb of...
About the random encouters, I was testing that part for a few hours yesterday and it was quite annoying. I had the save on the world map, so I had to walk to the Fire Cave. In a few tests, the lowest amount of encounters from that save to Ifrit was 4, the highest was 7. From what I see, those 4 encounters can't be lowered. You either get 1 on the world map and 3 in the Cave, or all 4 in the cave. The fastest time I was able to kill Ifrit was when the last read time, before the screen with the timer dissappeared, was 5:34.
Something else odd happended though, when getting out of the cave. The amount of encounters to get from there to Balamb Garden ranged from 3 to 5. I have no idea why this is, but it's best to save on the world map, after Ifrit is defeated because it's possible to get into 0 encounters trying to get to Garden.
I did waste 5 minutes trying to get 4 fish fins, which is 80 Water, but I thought the 3rd battle with it wasn't neccessary. I had both battle drop 2 fish fins, and saved in between them and after. That's all that I did yesterday.
I'm also thinking that the time can be lower than 10 hours as well. There are just too many things left unchecked and by lowering the time needed to get power, we get speed instead. Even though it will be hard, it's not a thing a few restarts can't cure.
