I would say chess or Axis and Allies personally, although I suspect I'm going to start favoring an obscure tabletop game named Battlefleet Gothic soon (in which you buy unassembled metal ships, glue/paint them, and then have awesome fights). Then again, I don't think you could call that a board game.
I might say the same before I experience risk online. Played over 1500 games and became one of the top 5 in the game at one point.
The guy that made the version of risk I play is making an axis and allies shareware game as well, so my opinion might change in the future

When playing with my 22 year old sister... Scrabble.
"USA!"
"... U.S.A. is an acronym, not a word."
"YES IT IS!"
"No it isn't!"
"Yuh-huh!"
"Dictionary!"
".... FIIIIIINE." She sulks for a minute before laying out more tiles. ".... Genna, Hippo has two Ps."
"NO IT DOESN'T!"
Repeat as long as it takes. Just don't try to leave the room because she'll cheat like hell. I go to the bathroom and come back to see her looking for big words in the dictionary and picking out tiles that'll work for her.
I immediately thought of Monopoly but I then I remembered how the trading system in the game is not as fun because they are no set rules for trading properties.
It's still probably my favourite board game though.
Why would you want set rules for trading properties?
And I completely forgot about Scrabble. that's an awesome game.
Well, when people get ripped off, you can't really do anything about it. You could complain but it's also no fun to prevent trades cause then no trading would get done and the game would go on for a long time. If there some rule to ensure fair trading, the game would be even better.
