The biggest problem with that is that the letters hit the sides of the image. I don't think the vertical lines are helpful, either.
I tried making something with a dark background, white letters in the middle (not too tall), and light horizontal lines above and below (but not touching the top and bottom). But I wasn't able to get anything I really liked. I don't know much about designing something like that.
That is true, 16x16 is probably the smallest someone would probably ever work with, any smaller and there isn't enough pixels, even with 16x16, 256 pixels isn't cutting it too well. It is fun to work with though.
I don't see any baby blue anywhere... except the default link color, which is hardly associated with the site.
Exactly. This site's main colors are black and blue, and the samples people were making were black and white. It just seemed more appropriate to me. But whatever.
You came off as a tad arrogant there, but I agree with your idea. A favicon.ico would be nice.
Hmmm... I guess there could of been more sugar coating but I think there is value in making requests short and to the point. I mean the only important information is the What, Why, and How. Everything else decreases the signal to noise ratio (decreases information density). Maybe I've been in engineering too long... I certainly meant no disrespect as I love speed runs (which is why SDA is on my bookmark toolbar).
i love it. i think the problem was that everyone was trying to put "sda" in the icon, when something else - quake guy - equally identifiable and more easily shrunk down would have done just as well. if there are no objections and no other submissions, this will be the one used.
I didn't think you'd be able to get a recognizable Quake guy into 16x16 (except maybe the face, which doesn't have much to do with "speed"), but that looks nice. I like it.
The colors... they just aren't right for 'speed,' ya know? I tried stuff out and came up with this. I tried to make an after image, but if that doesn't work I still think the colors go better. Blue is sort of calm.
