Sounds like a good choice. What is this Sync Strike you refer to? A software gate to run alongside the capture driver and AmaRecTV? The HDCP isn't an issue as I have a TEST PS3 (so I can disable it for that) and old-style 360's have it disabled anyways. I like the fact it does 480p. Does it come with a component break-out cable like the BMIP and Aver cards do?

Yes, it comes with a 3 RCA video + 2 RCA audio adapter and a VGA to DVI adapter.
To connect RGB sources you need Red, Green, Blue and Sync. Consoles only output Red, Green, Blue and composite video (plus power). The Sync Strike takes the composite video and extracts pure sync from it so that it can be recorded. Input for it is the normal SCART and output is HD15 which can then be connected with a standard VGA cable to the SC-500N1. The Sync Strike is available here: http://wp1114205.wp150.webpack.hosteurope.de/xtcmodified/product_info.php?products_id=15 (You might also need a seperate PSU for it for some more exotic devices that don't output power over SCART). You could also buy the parts locally and build your own sync stripper, it's not that expensive if you're good at soldering.

Edit: I think the most interesting part about that card wasn't mentioned yet. It accepts RGB signals with non-standard frequencies from nearly any source (like arcade boards). Here's a lot more information about it: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=37984

I got a refund from the Intensity Shuttle I bought (bandwidth issues and component pass through was weird). I will be buying StarTech soon.

The Startech card takes care of 480i/p and 720p. I can't wait to compare component vs my Intensity Pro. Do you know if I can leave the Intensity Pro in my PC along with Startech or will this cause electronic intereference? I still like the loop through of Intensity for use incase the amplifier I got is not up to standard. Plus sometimes I do not need lossless capture so the Blackmgic MJPEG is good for this purpose.

Only thing left to be sure on is composite and s-video... trying to find suppliers of the Japanese USB cards is proving an impossible task.

Technically not, but really bad drivers could cause problems (but not interference in the picture). You should be fine. The only problem with interference that I found is that you shouldn't have multiple active signals at the same time on the SC-500N1.
I made some SNES screenshot with the card and a 1CHIP-02 SFC. Quality is really nice.

Some more: Zelda, Metroid, Super Mario, Chrono Trigger
torch slug since 2006
looks like emulator. nice quality.

I uploaded a long capture test of 480p Virtual Console sources if anyone wants to look at it. Time codes in the description.

Edit - I might reupload this soon as I forgot to cater for YouTube's conversion of 59.94 material.

Sweet!

I really need to save some money and get this babby.
BMI pro is awesome for 720p60 but without a scaler, old systems are terrible.
The lowres scaling of the current scaler I have looks like a crappy emu-filter from late 90s.

Here is the reupload converted to 29.97. It should play back better.

Just letting everyone know there's a new (beta) driver version out for the SC500-N1/PEXHDCAP over at micomsoft's site: http://www.micomsoft.co.jp/sc-500n1_download.htm.  I have to work so don't have time to test anything out right now, unfortunately.  One odd thing I saw in the update notes is that Video Keeper doesn't work with this version, but they're apparently planning on releasing Video Keeper 2 sometime in the fall.
Thanks for the find. But the really interesting stuff is that the new driver has support for the SC-510N1. That's the card with 1080p60 support which was announced some time ago but never mentioned again by Micomsoft.

Do you think the current card could do 1080p60 then (with this driver) or still a bandwidth issue?

The StarTech card was 114.3 so I wonder what the jump to 116.5 does. Change log? The translated site is a tad bad but "I have slightly adjusted the display position of the screen capture." caught my eye.

The SC-500N1 can't handle 1080p60 (and no other consumer card can). The bandwidth of PCIe x1 is most likely too small, though by my calculations it would be barely enough with current mainboard chipsets. The SC-510N1 uses PCIe x4.

The changelog is just minor stuff (analog RGB 1080p30, offsets etc.) and support for the new card. But let's not forget that the older Micomsoft driver was kinda buggy, so this is definitely a welcome update.

I'd be interested if they fixed the Wii 480p issue you had that was fixed in StarTech. Feel like devoting yourself to the test bench tonight? Tongue
