Starting off page 3 with my 2:51.300 segmented run, I hope you enjoy. No TAS World 3 jumps yet, maybe in the next video, those jumps are hard to get every time, my success rate is very low. And I decided to go for the safe option at the end of World 6 by choosing the far block to fall through/jump up. I have bad luck falling through a 1 block gap accurately. Troll enemy before the hands at the end of World 7, should I just go over? Any suggestions to any improvements would be nice.

Looks pretty good!

What are the exact timings for each level? And you should also include Level 8! Make an IL table for it (that's what we had originally planned for this game anyway haha).

My computer will be back up by Monday/Tuesday so I'll actually be able to play and record finally.

They are in the video description, but I'll post them here:

Specific World speeds (60FPS, excluding loading screens):
World 1: 00:12.300 (738 Frames)
World 2: 00:18.800 (1128 Frames)
World 3: 00:32.167 (1930 Frames)
World 4: 00:19.817 (1189 Frames)
World 5: 00:22.267 (1336 Frames)
World 6: 00:25.383 (1523 Frames)
World 7: 00:31.583 (1895 Frames)
(Timings and frame counter courtesy of VirtualDub)

I'm not sure what an IL table is, and I'm not sure if I'll do a separate video just for World 8. I could make two new videos, one for good ending, and one for beige ending, but for right now I'm working on the regular world 1-7 run.

Ah, I didn't open it in a new window, just watched the embedded video >.<

Most of those times are quite a bit faster than what I had... haha. I have a slightly faster World 1 and World 3 however.

IL table = Individual Level table. So basically just runs for each level, instead of a complete run for the whole game. We were going down this path because at the time it was just Bromzepam and I working on it and he could do levels quicker than I and things like that, so by combining our efforts we were trying to get the fastest possible.

The Mari Kart 64 page shows what I mean.

As for World 8, here's a video of my run. Granted there's still some small things to be improved.

I was totally unaware of this thread, but I've been working on this myself. I'm doing SS any% on the latest pc freeware version.
I recon I can get somewhere around 2:46 with a good run (which I'm close to getting).

I recorded this run with a bunch of mistakes:

You guys still working on this?

Unfortunately I don't think any of us are (well I think it was really only ever myself and Bromazepam) but yea haha. Seems like you could get a pretty good time, just have to make sure you get the jump-float first guy (which is obviously easier said than done!).

My videos are still up and in this thread if you want to check them out, however mine was on the retail version. If you want to ask anything bout it then I'm happy to answer questions as well!
Yea, those float glitches are a bitch to do consistently, though i'm getting quite good at them. I'm at a point where about 1 in 5 runs make it past lvl 3 with acceptable precision. The main issue I'm having is the horizontally floating hands in lvl 6. They seem completely random and 1 always seems so get in my path (I'm taking a slightly altered and faster route than in my video now). So.. is there any way to somehow manipulate their spawns?

Not from what I can recall... haha. I think it's randomised (if memory serves me correctly) but there is a pattern which shows up pretty often, at least on the retail version. I think it could have to do with where you take eversion points as well so you might want to consider that as a possibility.
Just got a 2:49 with trolling hands in lvl 6 (had to stop twice). I'm sure I can cut 3 more seconds, but I'm gonna need a prefect run for that.
So so hard to do single segment.. :p

Hence why I never tried SS! Bromazepam and I split it up and were trying to do an IL Table.
2:47 GET! And submitting to SDA. There is room for about 1 second of improvement, but seriously.. after like 3000 attemps I've had enough!
I'll put up the video on youtube after I'm done encoding and stuff.
The run:

Very well done. I still think in the *perfect* run there'd be 3-4 seconds to be saved, but it is a very good effort!
Yea, but at some point you just gotta quit trying before you go insane. And some TAS strats are just.. WAY too inconsistent (like the jumps at the beginning of lvl 3). I'm quite pleased with how this run turned out tbh. I do wish the final level could be done quicker, but it's not humanly possible (at least not in a SS).

Bit of a necro bump but does anybody have a true ending run of this game I can look at? After a few hours of real practice my best sum of splits is 4:47 RTA (not sure what that'd be game time) and I'd love to see if I'm missing something obvious, especially in World 8.

I can post my best overall run (still has a couple dumb deaths) a bit later, once I find it in my twitch archives.

Not me, sorry. Running the any% of this drained all the joy out of this game for me, so I never got around to doing 100%.

Are you running freeware or steam btw?

Steam, so far the only significant difference I've noticed for true ending is that you can't fly in World 2 to skip the first eversion, which wastes a few seconds.

Obviously doing a run from scratch to collect all the gems has more significant differences. It's mostly a preference thing, I suppose.
Out of curiosity where do you mean exactly in world 2 you can't fly UraniumAnchor?  Been thinking about casually picking this up just because the runs so short, and I'm unclear as to where you're unable to.

The geometry of the last section (with the four gems in a large square) is changed such that trying to fly over it in Layer 1 gets you stuck.
Ah right, I remember now.  Thanks.

Well, here's some progress. Damn thorn in World 6:

4:57 True Ending RTA

As an aside I found an old folder that contains the original version as well as the HD version. The original seemed to have really floaty controls and I couldn't get the flying glitch to work. HD is basically 1.7.3 with prettier graphics far as I can tell.
Are you doing glitched good ending? Because in that case there's a TAS of the freeware version, which is mostly a route you can follow (except for the floating, of course).

If I'm reading that right it requires a frame perfect flip and would only really be useful on the last world in an NG+ setting anyway, but it's worth looking into for a submission if I ever get it that far. Doesn't say if it's works on Steam either.
Hmm.. the final level has a lot more segments than the freeware version. So 1.7.3 will be quite a bit faster.
The hardest part is gonna be just holding right and not stopping on most of the levels. You seems to be hesitating quite a bit still, but considering how much time I put into this game that is completely understandable.
Pac is Back
Isn't that category just ng+ good ending, basically?  Whereas all gems would just be the "true ending" (since you'd typically assume a speedrun is on a fresh file in most games)?

Doesn't really matter either way, but yeah.  UA, what are your PBs for both categories?  If different, what are the best known times for each?  I've only ever done some runs of a standard new game good ending ("all gems") but I'd have to go dig through old videos to get my time.  I'm really glad you're running this at SGDQ - hope to get back to running it some time before the event, and hoping to attend to hang out with my buddies who are running games there.
