Now that this game is on Steam, I hope it's considered legitimate enough to post on this site.
I think this game is worth speedrunning because it's a lot of fun. A solid run on Normal mode could be around 5 hours. Easy mode significantly less.
The challenge for this game that you don't see in other RPGs (that I know of) is that enemy evasion rises with level, to the point that being 4 levels below the enemies makes you miss a lot. 4 things can help with that: the Lock On skill (available to Anna, Matt, and Lance), Soft Drink items (which have the same effect as a max-level Lock On), accuracy boosting equipment (notably the ninja hood/gear and target badge), and Lollipop stat-boosting items. With a soft-drink and the target badge, I think the final boss should be beatable at level 27 or less. Lower with plenty of Lollipops.
I don't think I'll be able to put together a run, but in my first runthrough of the game I found the following that might be useful for anyone who wants to attempt one.
My strategy in brief: Fight only the battles necessary to access relevant stat-boosting items (Ham and Lollipops, maybe Cake for Natz/Lance). Use Matt's Cleaver on bosses. Use Matt and Natz for damage, Anna and Lance for buffing/healing status problems.
In my runthrough I gave almost all the Hams to Matt and almost all the Cakes to Natz, with the effect that they dealt double the damage of Anna/Lance at the end of the game. Lance did the second most, and Anna least. I dunno if that's because I don't know how to use Anna, or because she was actually weak. Either way, I had a hard time matching her elemental attacks with enemy weaknesses.
Necessary Items:
-Coffee (for reviving), beer (for Matt), soft drinks, milk (for Natz, maybe Lance)
-Ham & Lollipops, maybe cake.
-Chilli Sauce? For the final boss.
Necessary Skills:
-Purify (I gave it to Anna, but Matt and Natz can learn it too)
-Revive (I gave it to Natz, but Anna can learn it too and that may be better) to give characters Auto-Life.I'm not sure what level is best but obviously higher is better so that characters don't revive and get ganked on the same turn. Max level by the end of the game to have Anna reviving people to 3/4 HP (auto-revive restores about 1/4 HP).
-Cleaver, as high as possible, for every boss
-Temper, as high as possible (preferable to beer because it gives Matt the Brave status, increasing his crits a lot)
-Giga Drill (I gave it to Matt, which I think is optimal, but Lance can learn it too), max level, for The Creator
-Firestorm,max level level 2-ish, for the Forest, Crystal Cavern, and Jungle areas
-Big Blast (Natz and Lance can learn it, but I think Natz is more optimal), as high as you can get it, for most areas but especially the Waste Disposal Plant it's really good but also really expensive, so I'm on the fence
-Syphon (you have to find it, and anyone can learn it but I gave it to Lance), any level, for monoliths in the Temple of Godcat
-Plasma Wave, max level, which together with the Thunder Core allows Lance to murder waves in the Waste Disposal Plant Air Strike works too
-Either Lance's Antimatter OR Natz's Pulsar (which is probably more optimal), as high as you can get it for the Temple of Godcat.
Useful skills:
-Protect (Anna and Matt can learn it, but Anna is probably more optimal), max level, for long battles/bosses
-Barrier (Natz and Lance can learn it, but Lance is probably more optimal), max level, for long battles/bosses
-Spark Arrow for the minions that the Crystal Golem summons
-Swift Slash, as high as you can get it, for waves of mooks
-Ice Shard/Fireball/Thunderbolt for the Jungle/Forest & Jungle & Crystal Caverns/Waste Disposal Plant, respectively
-Genesis, level 1+, for auto-revive
-Judgement, max level, for massive damage against dark-type enemies like the Black Dragon in the Lava Cave
-Kyun, as high as you can get it, for healing and buffs
-Healmore (only sometimes, and even then I think an item would be better) Friend Dog is better up through the Jungle, and Pineapples are better after that
-Dispel, as high as you can get it, situationally (I can't remember when I used it, but I liked it at times) for Rafflesia and the Temple of Godcat
-Air Strike (I've never regretted using it) makes Lance great in the Waste Disposal Plant
-Legend? My jury's out on this. In my runthrough I raised Matt's normal attack to max (120 power) and used it the most, and while Legend is stronger (240 power at max), a normal attack also has a good chance of activating Matt's weapon's special power (Holy Sword for Heaven's Gate, Fume for the Magma Hammer, Spark for Golden Dragon, Haunt with Devil's Sunrise, etc) for an extra 50% damage.
-Matt's Normal Attack. As I said above, it's good a lot of the time, not too expensive to raise, and you could be better off with the right elemental weapon + weapon attack combo, since each elemental weapon increases the damage of attacks of that element by 50%. Max this and Matt and Natz hit for about the same levels of damage (easily 11k in the Temple of Godcat on easy mode)
Possibly good skills that I haven't used much (or at all):
-Annihilate/Black Hole for insta-killing groups (especially boss minions)
-Sawblade/Triple Saw Blade for insta-killing single enemies
-Debilitate, debuffs enemy defense 50% at max level
-any freezing skill (like frost arrow), since Freeze status boosts the damage of your next attack
Necessary Equips:
-Venom Badge or Leaf Clip or Green Dress (at least one, preferably all), for Rafflesia
-Sapphire Giant, for the Crystal Golem and The Creator
-Magma Hammer, for Rafflesia and most enemies in the Forest/Crystal Cavern/Jungle
-Target Badge, max level
-Headband (must be found), as high as you can get it
-Hela's Staff if Natz gets Pulsar requires visiting Graybone Graveyard
-Flameheart, as high as you can get it, for use with Fireball/storm
-Thunder Core, as high as you can get it
-Shadow Blaster (Lance's default weapon) at max level for Antimatter in the Temple of Godcat
-Lightning Badge, max level, for Praetorian
Useful Equips:
-Golden Dragon, for the Waste Disposal Plant (especially with Swift Slash)
-Devil's Sunrise OR Anarchy, for the Temple of Godcat
-Balance Badge, found near the end of the game.
-Silver Cross, for The Destroyer
-Casual Shirt, which may be necessary, since it allows Lance to toss Watermelon/Chocolate at the party for full-heals (or just eat pizza).
-Angel Pin, which gives Auto-Revive about 1/3 to 1/2 the time (AMAZING, but mid-late game)
-Air Badge, to protect against Syphon from the final boss
-The Tr*force, to protect against Dispel from the final boss
-Razorwind, if you use Iceshard/storm
-Pope's Hat/Dress for the final boss
-Hela's Staff in general, since it gives such a high MATK boost
-Flamethrower if you use fire attacks with Lance. My experience was that by the time I got to the Jungle, even a max level Bullet Hell with the Flamethrower equipped didn't do a lot.
-Green Cross, which is AMAZING. It's like having Regen 2/3 turns.
-Iron Cross, for Praetorian.
-Pocket Clock, which I have mixed feelings about. It's good because it stuns enemies. It's bad because it takes time and is really random.
-Cursed Charm. If you can't kill an enemy within 5 turns (except bosses), this is a good backup.
-Cat Badge. Useful extra damage until the Crystal Caverns. I thought later, then realized it's probably mitigated by your low level.
Necessary Summons:
-Slimebunny, for the final boss
-Friend Dog, if you're out of healing items, until maybe the Jungle (often heals the party by 1000 HP, sometimes MP, rarely gives a buff item, ratios maybe 60%/39%/1% of the time respectively)
Useful Summons:
-Praetorian, which you probably won't be able to use for awhile because of the high SP cost, but gives the party an offensive buff
-NoLegs, if a character has nothing better to do, up until partway through the Crystal Caverns
-Maybe Ancient Monolith? I never used it, but it might be good after an enemy charges.
Basic area tactics:Unfortunately, I don't remember what treasure chests or quests give you what. I think finding that out is essential to planning a route, but I don't really have time to do it =(
Ashwood Forest: You can't take the boss immediately without extreme luck (which I haven't gotten), but the enemies go down quick with your basic equips and attacks. I think you get the Headband here.
Crystal Cavern: I think you can get the Magma Hammer before finishing this. Use fire skills on almost everything, and Big Blast on Clays. IIRC you get the Sapphire Giant in the treasure chest in the top-right corner of the screen right before the boss, which allows Matt to use Cleaver on the boss without healing it (I think it's 30% weak against water). Fireball takes care of Godcat's blue minions.
Waste Disposal Plant: You get the Thunder Core 3 screens in, in a treasure chest at the top of the screen IIRC. Equip it to Lance and max out his Plasma Wave, max out Natz's Big Blast, and the two of them will rip through the enemies.
Lankyroot Jungle: Fire skills FTW. I've tried Lightning and Ice, but they don't work well against most enemies. Only in the cavern will you need Iceshard for the dragon miniboss guarding the lava shoes and Godcat's red minions. Rafflesia dies quickly against Magma Hammer+Cleaver.
Temple of Godcat: You can buy Anarchy in the last town if you wish - it has the highest ATK of any sword in the game (that I know of), and is Dark Element, which is good against a lot of enemies in this area. Natz + Hela's Staff + Milk + Pulsar wrecks holy-element enemies. Equip Matt with Heaven's Gate and use Giga Drill on the Creator and Cleaver on The Destroyer. The thing to watch out for from the final boss is (1) being syphoned, (2) dying to high-damage AoEs direcly from the boss, (3) dying to high-physical damage attacks from the boss's arms. In my runthrough had Natz use Pulsar in waves 2 and 6 (and I attacked the Creator first in wave 6) to great effect.
The equips I used for the final boss (all at max level):
Anna: Fairy Bow,Ice Shards, Ranger Skirt, Crossbone Pin, Thunder Bauble, Shrine Maiden's Dress, Heart Pin, random accessories
Matt: Heaven's Gate/Sapphire Giant, Headband, Captain's Shirt,Silver Cross, Balance Badge, Target Badge
Natz:Hela's Staff, Dark Bauble, Dark Gown, Angel Pin, Green Cross, Golden Pentagram Crystal Staff, Pope's Hat, Pope's Dress, random accessories
Lance: Shadow Blaster, Officer's Hat, Casual Shirt, random accessories
The equips I'd use in a 100% run:
Anna: Fenrir's Jaw, Dark Bauble, Dark Gown, Venom Badge, Heart Pin, Flame Badge
Matt: Heaven's Gate, Headband, Genji Armor, Silver Cross, Balance Badge, Target Badge
Natz: Hela's Staff, Pope Hat, Pope Dress, Angel Pin, Air Badge, The Triforce
Lance: Shadow Blaster, Dragon Helm, Casual Shirt, Green Cross, Lightning Badge, Frost Badge (to protect against the greatest variety of status effects/elements, plus be able to use Antimatter if needed)
Last thoughts:
-In general, I've found it's best to have 3-ish characters focused on the element that most enemies in an area are weak against, and 1 character (usually Matt, but I used Anna too) with a related but slightly different element that you need for some fights. I'll list the major/minor elements for each area:
Forest: Major: Fire, Minor: Ice/Water
Crystal Cavern: Major: Fire, Minor: Bomb
Waste Disposal Plant: Major: Lightning/Bomb, Minor: Ice
Jungle: Major: Fire, Minor: Lightning/Ice/Bomb
Temple of Godcat: Major: Dark, Minor: Holy/Lightning/Fire/Ice/Bomb
-I've found weapons/armor require low-high cost materials to upgrade, while badges almost all require mid-level materials. The upshot is thatat the end by the middle of the game you can trivially upgrade badges, but still need to go to the shop for weapons and armor.
-To beat the glitch easily: Equip Matt with a non-elemental weapon(I used the Blood Blade) and upgrade Swift Slash to max. Use Revive and Lock On/a soft drink on Matt in round 1 and revive anyone who dies after that. Have Matt use Swift Slash until it dies. Alternatively use Natz with Star Shower instead of Matt.
-Temper is better than Beer because crits are way better than normal hits. It's often the difference between killing an enemy 1 turn earlier, and giving it another turn to mess you up. Temper gives you Brave, Brave gives you crits, and crits are great. Use Temper. I love Temper but rarely spare turns to use it.
I hope someone finds this useful. I wish I had the time (and support) to put together a run for this. Cheers!
