Hi!
I am an avid Lucasartsadventure fan, and I tried to solve DotT as quickly as possible, I made some mistakes, because HyperCamDX hogged my system, and the mouse became sloggy, but I recorded everything.

http://www.carstenpohl.de/DOTT_DONE_QUICKER.avi

AND PLEASE BE GENTLE TO THAT SERVER. I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE TRAFFIC!
Thread title:
I used to be athiest until I realized I was God.
I love this game! Downloading now (violently)

Are there any sequence breaks, or cutscene skips? Or is it mostly a walkthrough done speedily? Too bad all the text will be skipped  Sad
Roboticus is Champion!
All the cutscenes can be skipped anyway...
Everything that is possible was skipped, you can skip cutscenes with LMB+RMB at the same time and skip conversations with "." .

There is nothing much of the game left if you skip all that is possible.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Listen...I don't mean to seem ungrateful, but there are a few things I'd like to mention:

1) It's in German. There's nothing wrong with this, but it would be nice to have some kind of warning before spending the download time. I was already burned by the Fable and Baldur's Gate runs on this.

2) There's no audio - I'm fairly certain (though not completely) that it's not an end-user codec issue. The sfx, voice and especially music are 50%+ of the experience for this game.

3) There's an unregistered overlay warning flashing throughout the video - surely there are other free capturing programs out there without this annoyance?

Sorry to be a jerk about this, but man, that clip really got my hopes up for naught.
1) True, its the german version. I will repeat that video with the english version, once i've won the ebay.co.uk auction, currently i only have the german version.

2)No there is no audio, its not an codec issue, the audio wasnt captured, one reason is because neither fraps nor hypercam DX can capture the video and audio at the same time, additionally,

3) and with that one answerig point 3, it wouldnt make much sense, because ALL the dialoges are cut off. if I wouldnt have done that the 33 minute "run" wouldnt have been possible. the intro alone has 5-10 minutes.

so sorry for expecting something different, this video should only be seen as a proof that you can complete DotT in 33 minutes. If you want the whole story and all the cutscenes, that video would be easily 2 to 4 hours I guess.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Cool, thanks for the level response. It wasn't really the cutscenes or dialouge missing that was a problem, just no sound at all was a little...um...boring. Anyways thanks for responding.

You should really use hotkeys more for pickup/open etc. A lot of time is wasted moving to the bottom left menu, which can be totally elimated.

And is it only later lucasarts games where double clicking the entrance to a new area (doorway, edge of screen, etc) will bring you there instantly? I know it's true for the Monkey Island games, and I believe Sam and Max, but I am not sure about DOTT.

Very nice route planning.
I especially liked the idea of using Edison to get down to after covering the chimney, although it seems hardly faster since you have to do the kite scene then.

Only few things so far things so far:
- free Ednas room later, you can do her when you actually need to know the combination, don't you?
- paint Ed red when you put him the rope around the neck, or when you're in the room with Fred, saves one go.

By learning the route by heart this will be a decent run I think. And if you're still into it then, you can start memorizing the menu buttons faster Smiley
Hi again!

Thanks for the great answers guys,  there are sure a lot of things to improve. I should create a small flow chart to see which items are depending on which other items, to improve things.

Youre right, the kite is the last thing that should be done in the past, because you will get the full battery, and are standing right next to the cron o john. I will try to improve that, problem is here that one of the lasts thing you do in the past is sending this ponyexpress mail, that takes place outside, you would to go all the way back up.

The double click go fast there option doesnt work. I remember it that some lucasarts adventures had it, but I also cant remember wether DotT had such an option or not. Perhaps its an issue of ScummVM? I am not sure.

The key shortcuts are very important. I only used p for pick up, i should use the others too.

I will start some planing this weekend, and try another run this weekend.

P for pickup?

weren't the keys something like the qwertz/qwerty map?
Or was that Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken?

Anyway, let me think about the ponyexpress... you'll need stamp and the contract...

First run through the horse with Howie:
- get everything not nailed down, bottom first (to get the hammer)
- get the horse teeth
- make the statue change (during that collect the red paint)
- walk down to the bush
- paint bush red

After this, get the fun teeth with Bernard and do the contract stuff. He only needs the red paint from the past doesn't he? Does he need anything from laverne for it?

Then second time through the house:
- Wash car (should have gotten water during first time)
- put contract into mail thingy
- rescue laverne
- get the golden feather
- wait at the secret lab for the vinegar.

After this do other stuff, like getting the vinegar and the flag pattern...

Then in the third session:
- give the doc the vinegar, get battery
- put flag design down at the seamstress
- talk to edison towarp out
- charge battery
- plug in time machine

This will get everything you'll ever need with him in three sessions, and basically it's very much the same route as you use. Only difference is when to talk to Edison and when to do the contract.

EDIT: Ah crap now I see the flaw... You can't get the vinegar without the disguise...

Nevermind Wink

Thanks for the warning! Smiley
A real speedrun made from the REAL game would be cool to watch, not from this internet released version which doesnt have all the files.....
I wish people would only send in English runs, since practically everyone understands English, even though my country is next to Germany and i can speak and understand a little german, i would rather have an English Speedrun.

well, i actually stopped doing a run because the only version of the game i was trying to do was polish... ahh, all the fame that i lost Cheesy

omg! wtf?
how can people play games like these in other languages than the intended ones? i don't trust translations and the dialogues are crucial to be understood in the language they were meant to be (here: english) in order not to miss all the jokes, the irony and the fun of the game.. i guess they don't know english that good.  :-/

well, here in poland, it's the question of legality. to keep the prices low, games must be translated, to make them not interesting for people from western countries (thus to prevent massive games buying in poland by these people); if some game stays untranslated, its price level is european, and not too many people can afford this level here (eg. gta:sa was published untranslated, and its launching price was about 3 times higher than a launching price of any other game).

and about my english, i recently passed the profficiency exam :]
omg! wtf?
heh.. that's a cool thing that translated games are cheaper Smiley
here in Romania there's no such discount.. we take games down from the internet and if we really like them we buy them Cheesy
