I know many people have considered running this and I figured I would throw my attempt into the mix. But say it was to be segmented, I've looked it over and I can't see to find a part where it would be a good stopping point and then picking back up so when reviewd, no one thinks I did anything between recordings.

In short: Where are the points where you can save (even though it auto-saves) and quit to finish a segment and start another?
Thread title:
Maybe just before/after some major cutscene?

If the game autosaves, can you copy your file onto another slot to have a backup? Otherwise segmented won't work at all. I'm sure you wouldn't make a silly oversight like this, but it's just that rare has done dodginess like this in the past... *cough*DK64*cough*B-K*cough*
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Unfortunately, it does autosave.

Hmmm... The only way to make the run segmented would be to start a new game, but then that would force me to watch all the cutscenes. They're funny but add onto time.

To use Chapter mode I could skip the cutscenes but would be unable to save. And I'm not all that sure I could single-segment the game.

Does the game show the time at the end? If not, the cutscenes would most likely be cut out of actual timing (no character control).

Edit: Actually, this may not be the case, looking at what Radix said on page 4 of the Mario Advance 3 thread. However, the cutscene timing wouldn't be a disadvantage for you alone; it would count against everyone, so don't worry too much about it.

No the cutscenes count. The only cutscenes to not count would The opening Cutscene and the ending cutscene.

And if it were to be segmented, when loading the last save it displays a time before starting, so starting the time from that would be a good timer I suppose.

Maybe Radix will time it like that. But weather he would or not. It's just to damn hard to to a run segmented, when you can't disable the auto-save.

I'm addicted to games
For games that have a timer but stupidly don't display it at the end, I will usually not use the timer at all and time manually.

The reason is that it's bad to force an eg, pause to go into a menu at the last possible moment of a boss fight for example. Picture yourself spending an hour running a game, and you beat the boss. Then you have 1 second to go into the inventory and see the game's timer before it goes to a cutscene. But you were so excited about your good performance you forgot.
Run's down the tubes then... except it isn't, because I'm timing manually.

The only exception is for RPGs, where you'll always be going into the inventory all the time, especially right before a final boss. So I take the final visible time and add real time after that.

And cutscenes will ALWAYS count. This is NOT a site for finding out the story of a game by watching custcenes!

What about copying the game file after each autosave, like alexpenev said?

If the game actually has that function then of course you can use it.

Believe it or not, Conker doesn't have a "Copy File" option.

Only a "Delete this file" option. Kinda stupid if you ask me.
... In other words, you can't do this game in segments? I blame Rare for not learning from their mistakes...

Couldn't you do something like, a ghetto segmented run.  Like, instead of using saves as the cut off, you just stop where a new chapter starts, and that might work.  You will however have full health though soooooo thats out I guess.  Any other ideas?
Couldn't you do it the halo way and segment by level?

Essentially have two types of runs, who can beat the game the fastest (non-segmented) and who can beat a level the fastest (segmented)

True. But then I've also considered another catagoy of the game.

Dumbots Multiplayer. Since Each level has a "story" and objective to it, perhaps those could be run as well?

IMO this game is easier than the N64 version so wouldnt be to hard to SS. You would have to use chapter mode to skip the cutscenes but it shouldnt be to hard for a skilled player. I think the link to an older run never posted on SDA for the N64 version was lost on the forum update but if I find the link I will post it. It might help give you an idea of how to approach it.

I have the video, I have it downloaded. So I've got that idea through, but what's everyone's comment on a Dumbots Multiplayer speed run. (Chapter X)
The 4th dimension is time...
if you want to speedrun the story mode and also skip cutscenes, just pleay the game via the chapter selection screen. This way you can record runs in sections and then combine the whole thing for a full speedrun.

For a segmented run, why not play through the chapters one by one?

For example, go through all of "Hungover," then the next segment would start at the begining at "Windy." Or do the subchapters one by one.

But to do it that way, would force it to be listed by Level instead of a full-run through, since when done by chapter, you start every area with 3 lives and full health.
