I've currently been working on speedrunning Myst in it's most recent incarnation, "realMyst: Masterpiece edition", but it looks as if the runs that are archived are from an old version released in 2000-2002, "realMyst", while Masterpiece was released in 2014, and the original game itself released in 1993.

Should the runs be fit to the most modern version, the fastest version, split between the four that exist? I'm not really sure on the rules of a game with identical core elements that's re-released every decade, so I want to know whether I should make the switch over to the older version or I should submit a new category with Masterpiece. Thoughts?

Thread title:
Hello Gelly and welcome,

Given that on the Myst game page there is already a category named "realMyst" would make me think that "realMyst: Masterpiece edition" would be added as a new category along that.
It also appears, reading the run commentary, that the original Myst seems to actually be the faster version, but the runnner decided to go for realMyst because it's more pretty/comfortable/whatever.

So I think you are good to go with the Masterpiece Edition (but I am no official).
Exoray
It usually comes down to how big of a difference there are between the versions. Myst and realMyst are obviously very different in terms of gameplay being completely different game engines and all so they warrant separate categories. What are the differences between realMyst and Masterpiece edition? Any changes that affects the speed run route?
The main difference between realMyst and the Masterpiece edition is a speedglitch that basically forces the current run in realMyst to go along the lines of "complete this section by itself, then this section", where Masterpiece is slower and allows for more efficient routing without sacrificing speed, like "i'll complete 25% of this section on my way to finish off this section."

As well, there exists a glitch in Masterpiece concerning teleportation that could be exploited, but I haven't found a good way to utilize it as of yet. I'd argue they're of different mettle.
