Wow, Colonization. That really brings me back. I never actually beat this game so I would love to see someone play it well. The difficulty is turn-based strategy games tend to be difficult to run well. You might be able to run a game in the fewest number of turns, but those turns could wind up taking hours in RT.
Another game I thought of running (but ultimately rejected) was Civilization 2. AFAIK I hold the record for a One City Civ (OCC) SS victory, landing in 1416 AD on a randomly generated map, Diety Difficulty. Link to game discussion below (great site for Civ fans by the way).
This game would not be very fun to watch as a video as it would be very close to the 7 hour limit (if not over) and would be broken up into a whole lot of segments (one for every 10 turns). One could probably manage to perform a OCC faster in RT by playing very quickly, but it would be most difficult to achieve a decent (sub 1900 AD) time or even a victory.
I don't know how much of this is applicable to Colonization, as I do not remember much about the game, but I would suggest that if you are to run it that you run it with minimal cities to keep the actual video time down as that is what we are concerned with here at SDA.
My record time is about 2 hours at the easyiest difficulty. But that was years ago, but im up for the challange.
If i do a speed run i will only build one city because it really reduces time.
Turns are recorded in years, so you could use that as an faktor for recording, but that doesnt say much, because one turn can be realle long if you have a lot of moves, and fights.
