This is were I will post progress
The current chinese name for SDA is [快速游戏库], word to word to english means fast-game-storage (Roughly).
I will translate the rules, faq and the submission page in html, so it will save the admin some trouble.
I had couple of web sites of my own, and did some web designing and developing stuff over the years, I should be fine when editing the page in notepad.
I will also make the logo in chinese.

The translation WILL NOT be in traditional chinese, it will be in simplifyed, because every one understand simplifyed and NOT traditional.

Will post more when I've done more

You don't need to make the logo in Chinese, but you can if you want.

The important thing to do when you're done is to post on Chinese language sites and tell them about SDA. Wink

I'd like to suggest the name 速电玩爱好者 for the chinese SDA name. I don't know how coherent the chinese is, but see:

Haha, I'm not chinese, I just took a couple of college classes and know my way around online resources. What I was trying to do was to find some phrase in chinese that "SDA" could stand for if it was written in pinyin. I was hoping that 速 could be used without 快, giving us the S, but it doesn't seem like that's the case.

yes.
快速
together is fast
速 by it self means like speed (could be fast or slow)
快 means fast
电 means electronic/electricity
玩 means play
电玩, people will know this means video game, but its not a word people use often (or ever)
爱好 means your interest or your interested (the interested part)
者 means a person
爱好者 means "this person likes"

i was laughing all the time reading this tread...
i think SDA should not be trans. into "速电玩爱好者"
it should be “快速通关档案”
because i'm Chinese.
And SDA is "popular" in our half-life forum (www.playHL.com,founded by HLFans in China),so you don't need to tell SDA to Chinese forums.
Now i'm interested in our forums... Roll Eyes

Why do you translate the site's name?
Even the French didn't do that (I'm kinda surprised they didn't even translate the word "run").
And about traditional Chinese, isn't that just about changing some simplified characters to the traditional writing?
Sorry, for my stupid questions, obviously I don't know much about Chinese.

My suggestion on the Chinese name of the website is "游戏急速中心" (Chinese-to-English word-for-word translation: "Game Speedrunning Center") or "急速爱好者之家" (C-t-E w4w trans: The Homeland of Speedrunners). Btw, FAQ'd better be translated as "常见问题" rather than "常'问'问题", cuz as you can see, most simplified Chinese versions of manuals for a product tend to translate it this way.

Word-for-word translation does have an advantage in expressing the meaning more precisely but, in the meanwhile, it might cause inconvenience in reading certain lines due to the unnatural way of phrasing. Imo, making it read more smooth is more important, but that's just my 2 cents. ^^

Yup, you're right. Simplified Chinese characters are officially used in Mainland China, while Trad. ones are what those who are from HK or Taiwan use. However, there're also some occasional phrasing differences existing there, but that's no big deal so it doesn't really matter, which means, once a Simp. version is done, the Trad. is automatically done with it.

The Japanese call us Speed Demos Archive. Why can't the Chinese do the same? Just give it a caption that plainly states what the site is, in a few words. It's much easier than trying to bridge the language barrier with an acronym that probably won't even make much sense.

极速通关档案is okay.
My suggestion is 极速通关录像库, which is almost a word-for-word translation of Speed Demos Archive(The precise word for speed is 速度，but here using it may cause misunderstandings ).

But, in fact, there is no need to translate the site name. If one can't understand the site name,the rules and the FAQ, he will find it pretty hard to understand the author's explaination of the tricks used in speedruns.

BTW, I am chinese too : )

Just write it in English, like the Japanese did, and write the translation in brackets or vice versa.
But I'd suggest you guys to translate the FAQ and rules into Chinese and THEN think about a translation for the name.
Otherwise the translation will probably take forever.
