Firstly, congratulations on the run. I really like it and it's one I *will* download when SDA posts it up. Now, I have never played the game or do not own it, so feel free to ignore any comments coming from me I have noted down quite a lot of hits into enemies which is an obvious slow-down, I assume 1.5 seconds per hit? Definitely quite a lot of time that can be saved there. I loved the way you handled the behemoth, and I LOL'd at the final orb miss. However, there were a few ugly mistakes, such as Dracula's first form hitting you, then the second one and finally the orb miss.. I assume 4 seconds can be saved? There were a few other hits on bosses that could be avoided so perhaps there too. I'm not sure about this (again, never played, feel free to ignore) but the bat (first boss with Shaft) could go faster?
Again, this is a really great run but I just have a feeling you can shave 10-15 seconds off without a problem. I'll be happy to see a 22:50-22:59 and think that's very possible. Won't ask for more
How about a strategy for 100%? What would be the best way to go through that?
Given that we're considering L.Demon to be necessary for the 100%, then you'd probably have to go through Stage 7 twice, which probably means the following route:
Richter Stage 0, Stage 1, Stage 2 (Rescue Maria)
Maria Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5, Stage 6, Stage 7 (L.Demon) - RESET Stage 1 (Alt Boss), Stage 2', Stage 3' (Rescue Tera), Stage 4' (Rescue Iris), Stage 5' (Yes, I found out you can do this by only beating Shaft, not even his ghost!) - RESET Stage 7 (Rescue Annette), Stage 8
I had ran across a rumor that all you had to do to get to Stage 5' was to beat Death.
...turns out it's true. I played up to Stage 6 (Stage 0, 1, 2 (Maria), 3, 4', 5), reset to the title, then went back to Stage 4', beat Carmilla/Laura...and wound up at Stage 5'. Wowsers.
Nah. No way it could, because in order to do all of L.Demon, Shaft's Ghost, and Hydra, you either have to go through Stage 7 twice, or Stage 5' twice. And 7 by far is shorter...and easier. Getting enough hearts for Dracula will be a challenge - and there probably won't be enough to pull off Seiryu's special at that whopping 50 heart cost. So True Dracula will probably have to be fought the hard way. It'll take a little longer, but it's probably a better option then trying to scrounge around for hearts in Stage 7.
Big ol' necro bump to say that I'm running DXC best ending again. I've actually been recording attempts for a week now, just failed to mention it here. Today I managed to beat the existing record by more than 15 seconds, but there are some nasty mistakes there too. I can shave off another 5 at the least.
Oh, and the marathon run? Turns out that it wasn't even close. Turns out the marathon run wasn't 6 seconds slower, but more like 26. I blame lack of sleep.

I don't know if you saw the video Persona put up of that Maria Boss Rush. New faster strat for Dracula, HOOOOOO!
The strat used was to use Senryu (Red Bird, normal attack) instead of Seryou (Green Dragon crash) against Dracula by double jumping against the edge of the screen while he's using Bloody Hydrostorm. There's just enough safe spot to attack him there. If it can be done as well as the boss rush, you can take him out before he flies off screen to do the first 5 fireball toss. It's not easy for me to execute, since it likes to miss a lot.
Yeah, I took strats from that video. The Drac 3 strat you mentioned, using Seiryu Item Crash on Shaft 1, and sliding under Dullahan as he's doing the icicle move. In addition to that, I learned it's quicker to damage boost past the golems in Stage 1. You get hit by their middle fireball so that it pops you forward and inside the golem, then you just walk out. Usually you'll get bigtossed on the way out, but sometimes you can just walk through them without taking additional damage. Depends on how they move.

I knew it was possible to go through, as I've had that happen to me on accident a few times before, but never knew how to do it consistently. Wonder if I can make it work on the original?
Quick progress report. My goal will be under 17 minutes. I would've had it today if not for fucking up in Stage 7 really bad. Razor Bats can eat a dick.
This is my best attempt to date, done 3 days ago. If you have tips on how to improve this further, please let me know. And if you can tell me how to stop making stupid mistakes every few seconds, PLEASE do not hesitate to inform me.
I did that just because the attempt beforehand I was so disgusted with, I joked to myself that it couldn't have gotten worse. So I tested it. And it actually wasn't any worse. Believe me, stupid shit is not relegated to this run. I was getting it in every run where it has my name, your name, Uyama's name, anyone's. Such is life. The RANE file is actually the best at the moment.
Alright. I have a 16:58 recorded. I'm kind of hesitant to submit because of some ickyness in Stage 7. How I got 3:01 there in the 17:44 still puzzles me. But I crushed my 3' time. And Shaft spent no time dieing in Stage 6 like he usually does; his balls dropped right away.
::edit:: Oh fuck. Scratch that. This run was fucking incredible. I kinda can't believe it. I'm gonna check my math like 12 more times, but as of right now, the record is 16:37.
