Ok, let's see if I can get this right. Here we have roughly half a game completed, in a category that does not yet exist, and recorded on handheld camera. Not only are we seeing a failure to read the submission rules, but I suspect this was probably your first or second attempt at recording this.
Time to write you a reality check. First of all, the rules are easy to find, since they are linked off the front page. If you don't have the initiative to find that, then I don't have a lot of hope for you getting a submission-worthy run. Nevertheless, I shall continue.
Second, ditch the camera. The only runs being accepted by camera recording are DS runs, since there is no alternate means of recording an image, and those require very high scrutiny. For other consoles, you want either a capture device or DVD recorder to record your playthrough.
Third, this game is not completed. You can't do half a game, and stop just because you reach an arbitrary mid-point.
Fourth, and this is the part I cannot stress enough, the play in this game is pretty sub-optimal. I'm sure you can get a faster time than this up to this point. Watch other speedruns to learn techniques for speeding up your gameplay, and for the love of whatever gods are up there don't just take the first recording you manage. For most speedruns it takes weeks or months of dedicated play to get a submission-worthy recording. Become your own worst critic.
Finally, no-one will be interested in some random newbie who just comes along and tries to get his own 15 minutes of internet fame. Unless you're willing to earn that recognition, no-one will frankly care, no matter how much interest you try and generate - that sort of thing just irritates most people and you will be ignored at best, and trolled at worst. If you want people to care about the games you play, you first need to care about the quality of your game play, and care about the goal of doing things as fast as you can manage. There will always be someone better out there, but unless you're willing to face the harsh reality that you haven't done as well as you can, then no-one will want to know.
I hope this advice is taken to heart, and its not meant to discourage you, but to give you a reality check as to the level of effort you need to make before your playthroughs are worthy of submission. Good luck, and may life find you well!
I definitely overlooked this because it was in Casual Speedrunning and I didn't know you wanted to submit. If you're planning to submit to the site then yeah, a lot of what Toothache said is pretty much the case. We will know if you half-ass your attempts, so please don't try.
If you are serious about getting a run up on the site then best of luck.
With everything else that people have said aside, how can you possibly prefer listening to all that music over the SotN soundtrack when you're running the game? Also, your "first castle 100%" time for the XBLA version is only a little faster than the goal time for 100%ing the entire game (which is a legitimate category, unlike your run). Lastly, it doesn't matter how fast your shield dashing is if you just end up sitting in place and flipping your shield. Good luck if you're serious about any of this.
sorry you all hated the first run... it was my first attempt.. neways.. attempt 2 went much much smoother.. clocking in at 30:04 castle one.. EXCEPT i can't do the richter glitch someone help!
One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results each time. If you made the same mistakes this time as last time, what makes you expect to have any better response this time?
Let's be absolutely clear: a) Get rid of the camera for recording b) Finish the entire game c) Read the rules and follow them
If you're not willing to change significantly, people will stop caring. Not that there was much interest in the first place. Sorry to be the brutally honest one, but unless you do make more of an effort, people won't make the effort to care about your runs.
1) how else can i record it.. i honestly don't know how you guys want me to set this up.. 2) i need to know the richter glitch for xbox to finish the run.. (help appreciated) 3) must we be perfect?
No one expects you to be perfect, obviously, but we do have pretty high standards of gameplay. It's not enough for it to be really fast, it should be so fast that 1) it's smoothly executed and impressive even to those with high knowledge of the game, 2) it's not immediately obvious that it could be made any faster, 3) to make it faster would take a skilled and concentrated effort, usually involving a great deal of practice.
To get an idea of the level of play we're expecting and the reason you're being criticized, it may be a good idea to watch some of the runs already on the site, especially the other Castlevania runs. Also, and I think this was mentioned, the only reason you're being criticized is that you said you wanted to submit this. Please don't feel that we're just hostile to newcomers.
As for your questions (and you're going in the right direction by asking), it will be easiest to record with a DVD recorder. Just hook your Xbox up to the recorder and then the recorder to the TV. There are other ways to record, but however you do it, it needs to be the actual video signal from the console, not a camera recording of the screen.
Questions about the game itself and how to run it would be best posted in an existing game topic, such as this one: http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/castlevaniasymphony_of_the_night_10035.html I would also highly suggest making it clear what you consider 100% to be, since there seems to be some leeway in defining it for this game.
We don't expect you to be perfect, but we do expect you to read this and this. I feel comfortable saying that you've read neither. You need a DVD recorder or a capture card to record submittable game footage.
here is the end of the run.. clocking in at 1:41 i think...
i could definitley get to around 45-50 minutes if i knew the richter glitch and ran a few more practice runs... but satoryu and romscout are the gurus.. special thanks to satoryu for teaching me the shield dash! i had tons of fun with that.. great game and thanks to SDA!
here is the video with a little surprise weapon...
You're a joke, but I'm going to give you the benefit of a doubt because you listen to Cake. And Cake is a good band.
Also, learn to shield rod. You're playing on Luck Mode and still relying on the crissaegrim? Come on. You have the goddamned Alucard Shield. Shield Rod + Alucard Shield is the most powerful attack in the game.
yes thats true.. but remember in luck mode your MP is so low you can't even use the shield rod/ alucard shield combo...
Not that low. You should have enough MP to cast it by at the very latest Lesser Demon.
As for the Richter skip, you just have to learn the timing of the jump. And the timing seems to be different for everyone. So all I can say is watch videos of other people doing it and practice, practice, practice.
i tested this out i couldnt do anything vs the lesser demon boss in the library so i stopped. but if you do start using it vs bosses.. then u wouldn't have enough MP to bat smash and wolf charge im guessing at least.
ricther skip is fun as hell!... i really appreciate the videos and the feedback guys
