This is a pretty terrible game that I picked up quite some time ago. The execution looked relaxing enough and there are some interesting enemy manipulations that caught my interest. After several half-hearted attempts to run it as a side-project and some work that resulted in a completed TAS, I've finally decided to commit to it. After only a few attempts, I got it down to a time of 0:14:17 (www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EFevCaN4i4). I'm actually pretty happy with it, but I think I can lower the time more. I'm aiming for at least below 0:14:15. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and on the Japanese version since that's the fastest way to complete the game.

I've also put down some notes about the game and the route in the knowledge base, https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/Castelian_(NES).
Thread title:
I'm working on this game as my next speedrun. A trick has recently been discovered (by 'pirohiko') that can save a little over 40s. One door in each tower (except in tower 7, which doesn't have any doors) has an alternative exit destination. It's triggered by pressing down instead of up. Not all of the alternative exits save time, but some of them are pretty significant shortcuts.

In today's attempts, I got my first pb since I started playing again, 13:37 (so -29s compared to my current SDA-run). There was a death that cost 14-15s, but it was otherwise an acceptable run. I had several other good attempts in the same session, so hopefully I can soon get an acceptable run. Right now I hope I can get the time down to 13:23 or even a 22.

The guide in the knowledge base has been updated with the new trick and routes.
