I have a question regarding these bounties. Is it a requirement to get them posted here at SDA? I currently don't have a DVD recorder, and just capture my videos with a device called Dazzle.

many of the guys put bounty up in this thread use the submission to SDA as a requierment
Back in the game!
I personally have a Site Suggestion, but this topic is already here.  I think that perhaps whomever is hosting a bounty ought to pay cash in advance to SDA, and then once the requirement is met for the bounty, SDA transfers the cash to the deserving party.  That way, there will be no issues with people disappearing and pissing other people (the ones trying to collect the bounty) off.  Just a thought.
true, but then the person would have to do without the money even if it took a long time for the bounty to be claimed.

better would be for sda to fulfill all bounties and then try to get the money back. but i personally won't do that.

I wouldn't expect SDA to do such a thing, especially with the reason behind MY suggestion being lack of payment/people disappearing.  If you don't have the money to host a bounty, don't do it.  Having the money paid to SDA prior to a bounty being posted would eliminate that issue.

But the real problem here, would be if the bounty never got completed (pretty much what Nate mentioned). What would happen then? Would SDA keep the money forever, or would the money return back to the bounty submitter? And if so, when would the time come for the money to return?

The pros with the current method is that the bounty pretty much could stay up for years without anyone losing money. And about the problem with not getting payed: I think that the person doing the run could get in contact with the submitter and fix most of the problems beforehand.

I think from now on if people post a bounty, they should send me the money and I'll give it to the person who completes it.  Wink

If the bounty never got completed, ever?  Maybe have bounties valid for a year after submission, and renewable if the bounty submitter wishes it, or else returned, less maybe 5-10% for SDA.  Maybe SDA could collect a small percentage anyway, unless they really don't want to earn money that way.

The person doing the run (let's say me in this example) could get in contact with the submitter (let's say Slowbro), and yet they still have the ability to disappear without a trace by the time the run and requirements are fulfilled.  And I'm fairly certain I'm not the only person who has had issues with bounties in the past.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
Usually a problem arises that they cannot pay a person who completed their bounty right away. And so it's not a matter of whether they'll pay, it's WHEN they will pay.

I think maybe the bounties should also include something like: Will be paid within 100 days of completion/accepted onto SDA, will be paid within the year, etc.

^ and most likely even something like that would be delayed.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
It is fine as it is right now, you are supposed to run not for the money but for whatever else, hopefully the fun of running the game itself. Although starting a new thread each new year could work, bounties of 2008,2009,etc force people to reinstate their offers once a year to weed out MIAs.

If the bounties would be removed after a year. What would then happen if someone were close to finishing a run, and the bounty passed the one year mark (and the submitter were nowhere to be found)? Would SDA hand out the money when the run got finished, or keep it waiting for further notice from the bounty submitter?

As gia previously stated, you aren't supposed to run for the money. But if you are, or just think the bounty is something that gives you extra motivation. I still think that the current method is the best one.
I think I suggested this earlier. They who can. It would be good to have a last date for their bounties. Its not nice when people drop in saying "delete my bounty now". Its bad if someone actually where aiming for that speedrun. And when the ending date is almost there. Just renew it if you want to.
Good, I am really glad someone picked up my slack and took this over.  Thanks!

Obviously I haven't been online for a long time; could someone please PM me or respond here if anyone earned any of the bounties I offered?  I don't see any messages to me so probably no one did but I want to make sure.

Also, sorry, but please remove all my bounties from the list.  I will still gladly pay up if someone already earned one, or if someone is hard at work at one of mine right now.  Thanks.

And hi to everyone here that I abruptly abandoned here about six months ago  Grin I still like this site and I'm glad to see it's still going strong.

If you look at the most recent news, Ultimate Darius just claimed your 100 dollar Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green single-segment bounty.

That's great, thanks, I will try to get in contact with him.

edit: I read frezy_man's most recent post here, and I agree.  It's something I never thought of.

So the closing date of all my remaining bounties is December 31st.  To earn my bounties, one must let me know by that date that they're working on them.  (The run doesn't have to be done by then; setting a date that soon would probably be ridiculous if the run had to be done by then.)
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Yes, I agree that frezy man's post is a good idea, considering how many people hang out around here for a couple of months, then disappear for a while, sometimes coming back, sometimes never coming back again. When the due date is up, TQM can just PM the person who originally offered the bounty.

No, I'm not singling you out, Tom, other people do it too, like LigerOfFortune.

Another person to pay is the person who is doing or did/submitted the cave of ordeals Speed Run.

Oh and don't forget Pweisger hes not around since August and needs to pay too.

So, this is the way it's going to work from now on? I just want to know so if we do change it, it'll be the best option now and forever.

Here are the three I'd be willing to offer.  In the first two cases I don't know if the video would actually be accepted onto SDA:

$50 for the best Zelda Twilight Princess Cave of Ordeals run.  Discussion of that is already in the Newer Consoles forum.
^Here

Yeah you see? It did not need to be here for it to be payed out. But I guess since the runner never gave the video to slowbro to verify himself then he does not have to pay IIRC.

I've updated the first post to include the new rules.
I gotta believe!
Ah, I honestly like these new rules. A deadline to complete a run for the bounty does seem to make more sense, anyways.

Also, Quiet Man, you're aware that I'm aiming for the Super Mario Galaxy 60star (or 61 if you wanna include the final Grand Star) SS run right? Is there a due date on that as well? Because I'm primarily shooting for under 3 hours, and don't want to be late by the time I pull it off.
Complete. Global. Saturation.
No, there is no due date, but I'd personally love to see a run of the game sooner rather then later.
Hey. Been a watcher for about half a year and figured I'd place a bounty up on an old fave of Mine.

Looking for the SNES Version of Secret of Mana, under 5 hours. Any means used to get there will be acceptable, so glitch your heart out.  Deadline will be December 15th. I'll be out of the country on a honeymoon from then until the new year.

75$

Go get to crackin =)
Yes, a worthless avatar riding my posts.
Hey Slowbro, Jacob MacMillan did the Pokemon Red single-segment about 2 months before this Fire Red SS came out. Just so you know. >_>
