Trust me Wheels, the reason why my previous speed runs have failed miserably has been because of four reasons...

1) I went solo, because I got no help and generated no interest
2) I didn't plan my runs well enough, thus what I thought was right was completely wrong
3) Overall execution of the game

That summarizes my four failed attempts, and explains why I went on to do Megaman powered up... Since Satoryu had already done the run twice (megaman and Protoman) the execution would be almost identical with a few differences if you used a different character...  However, this is one of the few times where after I try to generate interest did I actually got a response (Even though you did start the topic...)

my fourth reason was something I had discovered from Yoshifan & Zyre...  If you do a segmented run, Might as well post your status online to show what you are doing and to make sure you know what the hell your doing...  Therefore, I will make it official right now...  MAS8705 is going to be working on Brutal Legend, Segmented Run... whether I use dlc or not is a coin flip still...  All the same though Wheels, if you want to do the speed run still, go for it, but if not, I would be greatly appreciated it if you could share your strategies...

Basically from what I can gather, after the first fight with the drowning doom, the run is very straight forward; complete the missions and to not worry about any other power ups or trips to the motor forge (or course it could change, but for right now, that is how I'm looking at it...)  However, I know that each stage battle can get annoying difficult if the change is given... Everyone knows that stage battles are pretty much a third person strategy beat em up, and I'm not really one for strategy, so if you could give out strategies for any and/or all stage battles, that will be perfect...  Lets finally get this show on the road...  Just as soon as I get some rest, finish watching the marathon, and after the magfest video is finished...

Also just to share really fast, DLC is allowed, it would only be seen as a different category...

I think the primary reason behind the second visit to the motor forge is to pick up some more combo moves, after looking through previous posts. As for individual stage battles, I can guarantee that once you get the Fire Barons they are the brunt of troops that I spend fans on. The only time I don't put priority on fire barons is during the Black Tears DD stage battle. That I know by heart what I do:

Summon one headbanger and one razor girl. attack the fan leech and battle cry. When the first wave of DD approach, Face Melter. Grab all the other Fan geysters, using Face Melter on any waves of enemies, preferably before they reach your troops. summon a flag and wear it. Once all fan geysers are yours, prioritize building up the stage until you build a Crusher. Jump on the crusher and build a team of Fire Barons. Destroy the towers and send every troop you have to the enemy stage. Fend off the vehicles and tree back as long as possible. Place the flag as close to the stage as possible while summoning more Fire Barons until success.

It might be better to show as opposed to tell. That's probably the best I can describe it.

EDIT: I really don't have a strategy for the first stage battle. 2 headbangers, 2 razor girls, and a bassist to start. recruit headbangers or razor girls when necessary and send them to follow you into the current wave of enemies. It's very straightforward. Face-Melter about every 90 seconds (enough time to approach the wave of enemies and get the cooldown from the last time Face Melter was activated.)

Blasting the gates to the Pleasure Tower I think I went over.

If you have anything to add for a smooth first stage battle I'd be more than happy to try it and maybe incorporate it.
Hey guys, I started playing this game in December and while I'm enjoying it, I definitely suck at the stage battles.  So while I am not a good resource for this, I am excited for either run.  Good luck and I will support you both.

Thanks for the support, Lou. It's appreciated.
MAS8705, I don't know if you need or already know of a strategy for the Razor Boar bit (riding with the Kill Master to lure Boars to Ophelia) but I've got one that's really, really easy.

Since you only need 3 or 4 boars, just drive around until you get one or two boars to Ophelia before activating the stun. back up just a little bit until you can stun again. If you back up far enough you may get another boar lured to Ophelia. Just repeat until the cutscene pops up. It should take about a minute.

By all means Wheels, As I said before,"I would be greatly appreciate it if you could share your strategies..."  so if there is anything you want to share, even on stages that seem straight forward, go ahead a share the info...  That is how planning works for speed runs...  Just need to practice a run a bit and I should be good to go...

I don't know how the hell I'm exactly  going to pull off a time 1:42 by the time I hit the last mission (I'm as rusty with the game as you are Wheels), so I need to start practicing and perhaps record my attempts to show my progress, like SirVG posting V1-V5 of his runs before finally feeling good about a run submittion...

Also thanks Louie for the support... I admit I suck at Stage Battles too, one reason why I am begging Wheels to give me all his strategies for all the stage battles so that I can be able hopefully complete the battles faster (and not make it look like I struggled through the whole battle...)

If you'd like, I can use a digital camera to record a few of the stage battles (since I don't have a DVD recorder and I should be getting my copy of the game back tonight.) I can also provide a faux commentary hahaha.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
That would be fantastic Wheels...  I would highly recommend a commentary just in case if the quality on the digital camera may not come out well...
I'm the keeper of Time.
Alrighty. Sounds like a plan. It's a brand new digital camera, so the quality should be ok. Should I just start from the beginning or focus on the stage battles?
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
If anything else, I say do whatever you want...  If you want to record just the stage battles, that will be good... but if you want to record the whole run, that can help set the bar as to what we are shooting for...

Very nice and informative so far Wheels...  BTW, I checked the prices of the Dazzle recorders and they are about 50-80 dollars... so about the same price as a game if you want to look at it in that sense...

I will be interesting to see how the end product will look like...
I'm the keeper of Time.
You and me both. I looked and it turns out the time played is cumulative over all the runs. So it's an unreliable counter of time unless you completely erase the memory from your system and start from square one. Which isn't too bad, I guess.
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
That was something that has been bugging me a bit actually...  The idea that the in game timer DOESN'T reset, and only takes into account of just the first playthough... I'm sure that deleting the save isn't too much of a big deal, especially since you would just be getting the same things again...

EDIT: I played through on Normal in one shot. I died about 3 times and got a time of 2:04. That previous screen shot must have been on Easy.

The Black Tears stage battle is sped up in areas because I was pressed for time (YouTube regulations)

MAS, what do you think? Is there any areas I can improve on? Aside from the Sea of Black Tears battle against Drowning Doom. I know I can cut that time by like 4 minutes.

*casts revive on topic*

Finally!  It has taken a long while, but I finally have a new recorder!  Because I had gotten a Windows 7, my dazzle no longer worked properly, so I had to wait sometime until I found a new recorder that worked, and I finally got one yesterday... I am still making sure it works, however after a few tests I've done thus far on regular tv, I should be good to go soon...

That said, I think it is time to get started with promises made a while back to get some new games added...  Wheels, if you are reading this, I still have an intention to work on Brutal Legend and it will take top priority after I make sure it is working, and to make sure I get some practice with brutal legend since I haven't played for sometime now...  I'm also going to watch your cliffnotes to see if that can help me with the planning as well...

You seriously couldn't have bumped the topic at a better time!!!! I'm buying a Dazzle tomorrow (I've been stretched pretty thin on my funds). I've got a couple days off from work so I'm playing the game at least twice through during those days. I'm more than happy to help with any route strategies or stage battle plans (I'm currently trying to find the fastest way to get from Bladehenge to Kill Master's mountain). I'm also wondering if it's worth backtracking to get "Bring It On Home" for the final stage battles (the tab is not too far from the big skull before the Sea of Black Tears).

Edit: After playing it through a few more times, I thought I had a perfect run, UNTIL I HIT THE SEA OF BLACK TEARS. That is a serious SS killer.

However, with a "Load checkpoint" from the pause menu will only show the time of the completed chapter. So according to the game I finished with a time of just over 2 hours.

In a segmented run (which I think you're still doing, right?) you can go right to the Chapter portion of the main title screen and go right to whatever section
SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Alright wheels, I've was able to rewatch the whole run you posted last year, and while I agree that we can probably have something that is better, that goes without saying that sea of black tears is really going to be the thing that will make or break a speed run...  Now the reason why I said I was planning on doing a segmented speed run was for this very reason.  Granted that the other parts of the game will probably be easy enough to perform, the endgame can be very devious to the point that it can ruin what little hopes you have...

Still, I need to start practicing myself...  When I posted in this thread, I was still coming up short in the run (or at least not coming up close to 2 hrs...  also if I recall correctly in an earlier post (or rather your first post), that you are making use of DLC...  So there probably will be some differences between your run and mine...

Speaking of mines, I also noticed that you never did post a stage battle for the dry ice mines stage battle...  I know that it probably is easy enough to do (as you posted in an earlier post) but I thought you were going to mention that as well...

All the same though, I forgot to ask, what difficulty were planning on running this on?  I just realized that, for that time that was posted a long time ago could have been on the lower difficulty, and perhaps we should consider running on a lower difficulty for the time being and work our way up if that's the case...
I'm the keeper of Time.
I've been doing all of my runs on Normal. The only difference I've seen in the difficulties would be the ferocity of the AI, its attack strategies and whatnot. The health seems to be the same. With a few tricks I've been able to match/beat Speedy McGee's posted time from earlier. More on this later.

I looked back at my videos and realized indeed that I missed the Dry Ice stage battle is missing. I could record with my digital cam if you'd like me to. I'm still trying to figure out how Dazzle works (I've got a recording on VHS that I'm reviewing as I'm typing this) but that's whatever.

I've also done a run or two without using the DLC, and it's only slowed me down about a minute or two for extra Fire Tributes. Turns out there's quite a bit of legends and Lightning Plug jumps really close to each other. I've also found that I could've been using an Axe Treatment that's roughly as powerful as the Bloodlust, and free. That could save me some time of collecting a few tributes.

Best news I have for now: the Sea of Black Tears Battle is much more manageable if enough fans are kept in reserve for the Rock Crusher. Normally I've been relying on Fire Barons to set fire to the stage while the Rock Crusher was for crowd control, taking out the Lightning cars and Organists. But I was experimenting and found that the best way to go is to use the Rock Crusher double team attack until it blows up and summon another one to  pick up the scraps. Then just drive it up to the stage and hit it with two or three double teams (the actual crusher part of the Rock Crusher does constant damage). Other troops are good, too, but my big reliance was on the Crusher.

So, all of this stuff implemented, I've got a final time of 1:57, comparable to McGee's pre-final time. I'd love to go into specifics for individual chapters if needed. Just let me know Wink

Well for now wheels, just be sure to focus on the important: the dazzle.  If anything, it should be easy since you need to make sure you properly connect the output...

As for the dry Ice battle, there's no need to post a video for it yet, your previous explanation should be more plenty, but if and when you get the change, go for it...

As for the actual Sea of black tears, good to know that a better plan has been thought of, although you didn't mention if the fancy blimp was initialized or not, but I'm guessing not...  An interesting strategy to save up for two different rock crushers and to have one after another to ensure that the fight can end fast.  Last I checked, there doesn't seem to be ANYONE who has been able to manage sea of black tears properly; when I checked youtube, everyone had to split their videos (so to speak it ranged from 15-25 or even longer)...  So pretty much as mentioned before...

Sea of black tears will make or break this speed run...

If you pull out a decent performance there, then you are may just yet succeed...  We just need to be ready to pull out all the stops in order to make sure that this is done...  I admit that the only other game that has my interest for a speed run right now is Bastion, and I know that will take a much shorter time to execute compared to brutal legend...  I admit though I might approach this run on the lower setting for now, if I can do a higher difficulty, then I will, but for now, I'm too rusty, hence why I need to practice...
I'm the keeper of Time.
Go with what's right. I've been doing Normal as a nice middle ground. I've yet to pay attention to the time for an Easy run, maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

Oh yes, that obscene solo that is Bring It On Home. It is obtainable just before the Black Tears battle up a tall hill with a narrow passage with death looming on either side. The drive up the hill has to be very slow, running somewhere in the area of three minutes of time if you know where to go (took me about four minutes, as I've only gotten the solo in my first playthrough for 100%) As for it saving time, I still need to look through that. I can say for certain it makes the final fight faster by about 30 seconds, since you don't have to wait for Face Melter's cool down. I could check if I could fly around the towers blocking the bridge and maybe ruining the troops before the Rock Crusher even comes out... I'll check it out soon.

Black Tears I can say with a fair amount of confidence can be reduced to sub-15 min, what with my posted video being about 18 minutes with several mistakes. The biggest time sink is waiting for the stage upgrades.

alright then wheels, I will leave one other slight message then that you might like to hear (although I can't say for sure if it actually helps)

I'm sure you are aware how you can fly AROUND the towers and land right?  Someone claims that they summoned the deuce when they landed and used it to help talk out some of the enemies in the back...  I wouldn't be suprised if perhaps you can use Bring it on home there and see if it can wipe out a few people...

Again reason why I say that might not work is considering the damn tree back with crows...  the moment you are seen, you are basically dead...  Granted that perhaps this can be tried once or twice while you wait for your army to build...  If you can make it work, then more power to you, if not, well... as I said, it was one idea...

Still, having bring it on home for only two stage is a coin flip... On one hand, yea very powerful and very useful, however because it is so damn out there, it seems like the time wasted to drive over there to get the spell could
