I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
First off, I don't know too much about media.

Second off, my computer monitor screen thing is always naturally dark.  I have to download PowerStrip to increase the gamma so I can play games.  It doesnt work on movies, though.

I downloaded the DivX because I found out fast that .Avi doesnt work well with Windows Media Player.  The cool thing about WMP is I can easily increase brightness, but not in DivX.  It has the option, but it just.. doesn't work.  (I have DivX player 2.6)

I read around, on both these forums and DivX, but i guess no one has my problem.  Suxor.

So, is there anyway to increase brightness/gamma/fancy term for light in DivX?

I don't use Windows Media Player, so I can't help you with it. But any player that allows you to change the brightness or gamma should work. I use Zoom Player for such things.
What problems are you having with WMP?

As for the brightness problem, I've noticed that all DivX & Xvid video played back in WMP is considerably darker than it should be. Turning up WMPs Contrast setting two notches brings it back to normal.

Anyway, since I don't use DivX Player I'm not sure, but try going into the DivX Configuration Utility. Under the Quality Settings tab you can adjust Brightness, Contrast and Saturation(if you can't see the controls disable YUV Extended Mode).

The WMP problem is I get audio only for some of the demos, and in DivX, the brightness/contrast/saturation bars dont work.  I can change them, but there is no effect.
Hmm, I have the same problem with DivX color controls. I'm stumped. The only thing I can think of is that it has something to do with the YV12 > RGB conversion on playback. The files look fine in VDub, which does the conversion itself.
MGS for PS1 forever.
This may or may not having anything to do with your problem...but if the screen of computer is set at a higher resolution than your computer can handle the screen will be a lot darker. A lot of screens won't even let you set the res higher than it can handle, but if it will then here's the heads up.
