Yes, I did check the other 'brightness problem' topic on this page.  Mine is somewhat similar, but afaict, seperate.

My problem is that, in basically every program except virtualdub, videos display far too brightly.  It's sickening.  I have absolutely no clue what's causing it.  Virtualdub seems unaffected, and this problem is not wmp-specific.

Lowering the brightness of the player just erases most of the details in the vid, and doesn't help any.  That's not it.

Does anyone have any clue what might be the problem?

Try turning off hardware acceleration.
That also causes double sized videos to not be properly sized... at least it did for me.

Haha, fixed it.

Guys, do NOT update to divx 6.0.  I reverted to 5.1.1 and am currently fine.

Or maybe 6.0 is doing things hte 'right' way and I'm somehow in conflict with it...

Or not.

The problem returned.  I don't know what I did to fend if off for a while, or why it's now returned, but even without divx installed, some uncompressed vids of mine are now having brightness problems.

However, radix, turning off hardware acceleration does indeed seem to solve the problem.  Thanks.

I'd say, sounds like your graphics card has color control for overlay windows and that there are some strange settings on it.

Go to driver settings, select "Video overlay settings" and check if hue and saturation values are sane. This goes for nvidia cards.

I'm looking, and I can't find anything like that.  How would I access those settings? >_<

Right click on desktop->properties->settings->advanced->geforce elite 700000omgxtra->video overlay settings, isn't it obvious  Grin Yeah I know they're kinda hidden heh.

I messed around with those settings.  They don't seem to be the problem. :/
