Borderlands 2 Glitch Hunter/ router.
I was messing around with shield just now and found this:

Shield Boosting: Basically if you have a high capacity shield (or just a good shield) that has a stupidly long recharge time, (for example the shield I use in the video had a recharge delay of 214 seconds)

Once it breaks, swap it for another one, exit the menu, let the other one start charging then switch back to your old shield and it will recharge without its delay.

You don't need to wait for it to be at full charge i just did in the video.

This makes a "my first shield" or similar with a 2.43 second delay useful. [I'm pretty sure I've seen shield with less delay however]

Also could be used with shields that have a VERY fast recharge rate to do most of the work quickly. [It will only charge to its capacity obviously however, if it charges 14,000 very quick and your better shield is 15,000 its done a lot of the work.]

What is the best way to back up the game files? I've never done that before.

Ok I pulled the files onto my desktop so I have a separate set of files now, are there any safeguards I need to do?

Ok well, as I'm sure everyone is aware of our biggest speedrunning tool is about to be patched.  I'm sure we were all also aware of this moment coming for a while, so I suggest we start the discussion of what patch we will be using going forward.  I'm not even sure if there is a way to get hold of the older versions but I thought I'd post this list of patches here so we could discuss.

Pre 1.4 seems ok with me.

My back up method was simply to take everything Borderlands 2 from my common data folder (D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common) and stick it somewhere else, if theres something somewhere else I need to make a copy of too can someone let me know.

The only opinion I can make to this - which may in turn ruin it for everyone - is that there was a point where Wilhelm had much less health and could possibly reduce the fight to a mere 3-5 seconds with infinite ammo. Considering the length of the run however, I'm up for sticking with what we have now (pre 1.4). Wilhelm is still really easy to deal with.

I may run Krieg though, even if it's just for funsies. My very old route before infinite ammo was discovered can still come in handy.

Personally, i will do the update, i like challenges Wink . I really wanted to practice a run without the glitch, something i hadn't time to do until now.
I will continue to do run attempts until they fixed bunker's behaviour towards the B0re skill.

I'll keep supporting everyone who will continue on the pre 1.4 patch version. The infinite ammo glitch was a reat tool to use.
I'll read every previous patch notes to tell you which version could be the best for speedrunning the game.

For me, it's time for a complete rerouting with zero. Time for bringing my old sniper zero back Cheesy

Ok I just nearly gave up trying to revert my game from 1.4 to the previous version but after about 20 mins struggling this is the method. (if steam is forcing you back online and starts downloading the update)

1.Log in to steam (online) to allow steam to verify your offline mode for longer.
2.Log out, then in (offline)
3.copy and paste your pre-patch data back to the common folder in your steam folder tell it to overwrite everything (copy + replace)
[...\Steam\steamapps\common\Borderlands 2]

4.Load the game from steam once loaded it will give you a warning saying that DLC you have needs an update (it will say this every time you start the game from now on ¬_¬) just click and carry on as normal.

DO NOT DELETE !!! your game folders using steams game properties tools because it also removes some of the files that steam uses to launch the game meaning you will copy and paste your files back and not be able to load them.

New to Speedrunning
Will a single segment run ever be possible? I'm wanting to start speedrunning this and not sure if 100% or any% would be better to start grinding. But I'm also curious if a single segment run is possible because if single segment is possible I'll probably go for any%. I understand force rares is only possible pretty much with multi segment, I'm wondering if quest guns would be sufficient to take you through the game.

Absolutely, a single segment run is possible, and it's where the most work has been done so far. Nobody has really done any work on 100%, though that's certainly possible as well.

New to Speedrunning
@Chfou, I seen you farming Boom Bewm for a little bit, do you think it's possible to do a run with no farming? Just rolling with whatever you get as a drop. Or is that to luck based to be a consistent way to do a single segment? Do you think good weapons can be consistantly dropped that often throughout the entire game. Also, your game is French, are you French or is the language dialog quicker; I know for some games they run Japanese because it's quicker, is it the same for Borderlands 2?

Always good to have more people interested.  Running single segments is based off of two big ideas minimal farming and the infinite ammo glitch.  Farming Boom Bewm in the beginning is more for XP than for a drop.  Taking a look at the vids here or looking at some old runs on twitch from any of us is a good way to start learning the route, and if you happen to catch any of us streaming we would be happy to answer any and all questions you have.  And as far as language speed, while it may make some difference it is not profound enough to affect the larger parts of the run.

As of right now doing a no farm run is an impossibility in a SS, while we have gotten to and finished the game as low as lvl 20 the times are terrible, the best times gotten have been done with minimal farming and great weapon luck.

@MrBobb1 : I think doing a run with no farming at all is way too much luck based. Even with the route i take, there is still enough RNG to kill a SS run.
Also, my game is in French because I'm french Wink

For a no reset run with zero, i set myself a goal : the run must be the less RNG dependent which means if you play with zero and take the same route i'm taking, you will be faster only if you have a better luck. Also, if you want to play as zero, the only spot for good weapons is the bunker which provides you great lvl 24 stuff as well as huge exp amout. For the other characters i haven't determined if there is any spot for a good weapon drop.

@Chfou Yeah, I figured a SS no farm run would be near impossible. What about gun farming from Moxxi, since she gives you that SMG after tipping her so much money. It's a great SMG and a constant in any game type. Only thing is, I'm not sure how much you have to tip to get it, and I think the more you farm that gun the more expensive it is. Did you notice cash being an issue in your SS run?

Cash is a real issue after killing whilelm and until you enter 1000 Cuts in order to kill bunker (for zero) and until further for other characters imo.
Since you tend to avoid killing enemies and you do only a few side quest, you don't have that much money.
I don't know how much money you have to tip for the smg, maybe i'll try it later.

I'm pretty sure it varies, sometimes I get it right away and sometimes I have to tip like 100k or something insane. Not sure what factors go into it, might be Cash pile; more cash = higher tip. If that's the case than having low cash stack wouldn't be a problem because you would also tip less. Not sure, if you want to try and let me know the results that would be game changing I'm sure.

So I figured I would bring the discussion here to get formalized since we have been discussing on stream. 

UVHM (Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode) has been introduced and it has provided a way to go higher lvl runs of the game.  So far we have decided that these rules are the most fair, but they need a little adusting.

Rules are essentially the same as NG no equip or badass rank, and one weapon to start with (this is only because it has been deemed needed to get through the first section)

Picking that weapon though has caused a bit of an issue. Thoughts

so i was enjoying watching Broman's stream and saw there are problems with steam servers (steam doesnt always work). as some king of network is needed for enabling axton speed glitch.
if axton speed exploit were to work over LAN connection and its some extra amount of lag that is required to enable it then there are tools that can be used to do this.
there is a tool called dummynet, there is windows version and it comes as ipfw+dummynet package.
can be downloaded from this page:

didnt tested it with BL2 myself, but once installed it can be configured to add any delay/lag value to existing network connections (those in windows in My Network Places panel).

you can point me to right SDA forums and i can create tutorial for it.
that is, if speed glitch isstill relevant. also speed exploit may work over steam only and no matter what lag added over LAN network.

I may have made a fuck up ..... just noticed [not sure how I didn't before] that i sold the Vault hunter relic in my segmented run .... technically making it NG+ NG w/DLC ..... its worth $122 and I've already made my purchases for this part of the game before i sell it so it doesn't effect me really, as from that point on I'm luck manipulating drops and Michael weapons anyway the only thing I buy is a Vladof Rocket Launcher..... but it's down to everyone else's discretion.

Cons: I have to start again....

@Hazdogga Welcome to This topic and yes if you can find some Pre 1.4.0 files your good to go easiest way would probably be to get a CD/DVD hard copy Remove your previous version and tell steam not to update the game THEN install it  (The game will still be in your list just grayed out *right click* propeties / updates / and its in the drop down box)

Edit: Version 1.0 is probably most desirable because of a few things mainly being Wilhelm's Health {I'd say a 1 shot fight was possible} and Michael Spawned 100% only his location varied {after one of the patches he spawns 10% of the time}

I would offer to put my 1.3.4 files on something like drop box  or create a torrent file for you however my internet is terrible and the uploading would take days. I believe broman said at one point he would host some file so people could roll back ... i might be wrong tho.
