Ive done a Segmented Speedrun on Blood 2  and also , i didnt know what rules might apply to this speedrun so i played each level as quick as possible from individual saves to have the best possible conditions to get trough as quick as possible.

I encoded all 32 Segments as one Mp4 file, i was wondering if  at all this run is valid, so far Radix hasnt responded to my email about it and doesnt seem interested in the run maybe someone can inform him about it to verify this ?

But anyway so far ive encoded a Low Quality Version which is Available here

www.massrefuge.com/Movies/Blood2_SpeedRun_LQ.rar

Also ive done Completed a SpeedRun on Operation Flashpoint in 44 Segments in 2:39:00 Hours , but again Radix wasnt interested but i will try to getthe 1 GB uploaded soon.

Wow, this was a surprise.  I haven't checked the video yet, but I am downloading it right now and I definitely plan to say some things about it in the future (as I eventually plan to do a single-segment run of Blood 2).

First, I recommend you re-encode to an AVI, as MP4 isn't taken here.  My guess as to 'why' would be the notion of not every media player being able to tolerate MP4 with the same ability that they can tolerate AVI.  Also, your normal quality version will probably have to be encoded with the DivX codec (I think I heard that XviD also works; yes, there is such a codec), just because it's the agreed-upon normal-quality codec here.  (To my knowledge, other qualities, while they still have to be AVI files, can use different codecs as long as you tell Radix what they use.)

Second, Radix tends to be a busy man.  He may not immediately respond, so you may have to be patient.

If any of this sounded condescending or strict or whatever, I apologize - since I haven't seen your name around here before this, I have no idea what to think of you yet.  I'm trying my best to be nice right now.

And if anyone else finds any of my information INACCURATE, speak up.

Edit: Okay, I won't be able to watch the whole thing right this minute, but the first thing I should note is that you should use Chosen mode, even if you are selecting Caleb.  Why?  This skips the cutscenes altogether (ask people around here why the cutscenes should be skipped for a speedrun).  Since Chosen mode is available from the start, I believe this would be allowed.

Also, I'm not hearing sound.  If you captured the sound as part of your gameplay, and will be able to re-encode it with sound when the time comes to show Radix, fine.  But if you captured it without sound, you'll need to do the run again and make sure to capture the sound with the video, because Radix does not accept soundless videos.

I will make sure to say more on this as soon as I can.
Like Aquatiger said, Radix is a busy man, especially with his new job and all, so just give it some time. Just don't spam him, he doesn't like that at all.

I'm not sure about the mp4 container, but the normal quality (500 kb/s video, 64 kb/s audio) should be an avi, encoded with DivX or Xvid... Or I just link you to the FAQ. I don't know if the HQ and LQ are allowed to be in a non-avi container.

Anyway, I'll enjoy your run of Blood 2 all the same Smiley
Hi,

This is my first post here (Although I've been "lurking" on this forum for some time now...) and I just want to say that I love the art of Speed Running Smiley

Hmm, I think this is not valid from what you said:

"so i played each level as quick as possible from individual saves to have the best possible conditions to get trough as quick as possible"

I've seen your Run a little bit and you start each level with different Health, Ammo etc...
If i'm not mistaken, that's not allowed.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
After i seen the Quake 4 Speedrun i thought that the Mp4 Format is Accepted but that might just have been a exception.

Also yes as i said the run isnt from only one run , but based on previous saves to try to get the best time on each level, i saw that in the Doom Speedruns where alot of different ppl have the best times  played on the individual levels. But then again different game different rules i guess Smiley

There is sound in the video.

The playing is really good, I think you could easily do a run of this game following SDA rules. Besides encoding your stats have to match between levels. That just means you have to have as much health/armor/ammo in at the start of the enxt level as you had at the end of the previous one. I can see what you did, and it's certainly entertaining, it just doesn't qualify for being put up here.

That also means you'll probably have to shoot a bit less. Otherwise it's a great run!

I've continued listening and.... is it just too low?  Or is it in specific spots that I haven't gotten to yet?  I've turned up my speakers, checked to make sure they're plugged in.... and I still hear nothing.

Anyway, yeah, stats will have to match up in any runs submitted to the site.  I do, however, like your play style, and I'm trying to see what I can pick up for my own SS run.

By the way, if you're interested in knowing some more about the game, there's another Blood speedrun (it actually covers both Blood AND Blood 2) topic here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=pcgames;action=display;num=1142198600

Sounds are ok but music is missing...man why you turned it off? Blood 2 has one of the best soundtrack I've ever heard...anyway good run on genocide skill nice jump over the wall using monster (near bridge) and nice jumping at all...And about cutscenes I think all characters has them but only caleb has them with talk etc...but it take same time..gj

I'll be honest with you.  Selecting 'Chosen' mode skips the actual cutscenes.  You are right to some extent, though - this fact affects fewer areas than you would think, because many of them make you wait for as long as the cutscene would normally be.  There are exceptions, though (the rooftop in the slum area after the Naga boss, for instance - a normal player has to watch the cutscene while a player using Chosen mode can just turn tail and run down to exit the building).

As for the sound.... must just be Media Player Classic, or maybe I'm missing a sound codec or somesuch.  Because mine still refuses to play sound.  Oh well, I can do without for a comparison I'm making.

Compared to a recorded attempt I made at a single-segment run (which is in the topic I linked in MY previous post), yours has better gameplay by quite a bit.  You're 3 minutes ahead of that right at the end of the plane level because of several things:

-Your gameplay is better on average.
-I was using Ophelia in my run, who has less ammo and less health (I believe she takes more damage per hit as well) but a higher running speed.  My level of caution had to be higher.  Which reminds me, are all the characters different enough to warrant separate categories?
-You tended to wait and kill less enemies than I did in my attempt.  I couldn't in mine because of the fact I couldn't just restart a level if I died - I would have had to restart the whole run.  Thus, I had to be more cautious.
-You skipped some powerups I had gotten.
-You used a trick in the sewers that I did not know even existed - you jumped across the pipe to get past the vents that you normally have to turn off and then go by.  In fact, I believe your run was not utterly ahead of mine until that happened (though you were only slower because you had cutscenes to contend with).
-You went a slightly different route in the plane than I did, which saved several seconds even though backtracking was needed.
-You refused to stop and snipe enemies - granted, you could afford this because you could just restart the level if you needed to.

I am continuing to watch and I'll definitely say more.  Although my comparison will only go until a certain point in your run, because the attempt I'm using to compare to your run ultimately failed to complete the game (I posted it up on some webspace and linked it regardless to get feedback.  It's unavailable for a little longer, because the hosting service, Filefront, is undergoing maintenance, but trust me when I say it is still online).

Edit: WHOA, didn't know you could reach that edge from a jump that high up in the sanctuary level (the one with the Naga boss).  Also, interesting that you used Bug Spray grenades to beat the Naga.  In a real run, if grenades wind up not being viable, I suggest saving the Tesla Cannon for him and using that.

By the way, where in the first few levels can you find a minigun?  I know the segments don't line up, but still, I never ever saw a minigun before the Naga.

As for the rest.... as I said before, the majority of it comes from better play.  The duckjump through the window of the abandoned building was a surprise, though.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Thanks for the comments, i think you encouraged me to try the run again following the rules Cheesy

@Dago -  i didnt turn the ingame music off lol i didnt even know it had any since i didnt buy the game O.o

The Cutscened really do add quiet alot of time to the run, and when i started the game i used to have a quiet convenient bug that would make the dialog end for some reason. But unfortunately i wasnt able to reproduce it for the speedrun. My guess it that it depends on hardware settings.

While playing the game normally i noticed alot of bugs and things you can exploit specially when you jump  while strafeing you can reach areas that are normally not reachable. I found so many bugs that i even thought of including a little extra video where you can see where you can get to using only the buggy strafejump.

My Favourite is the meatfactory you can get into the window to the left up above you at the beginning but i found the window jump at the containers slicing even more time off so i went with that.

@Aquatiger

Thanks for the Link to your Previous Blood 1 - 2 Speedruns iam definately going to download it. Also if you have trouble  with the sound of the video i found the VLC player www.videolan.org to be the best and easiest solution.

I also have Blood 1 and but i never thought of speedrunning it , propably because  the game gives me a headache ! Just like Duke nukem 3D , i dont know it mustve been the crappy graphics because eaech time i played it i had a headache.

Btw what program do you use to record Blood 1 ?

The idea of a single segmented run on Blood 2 is quiet possible but i doubt you will get the best time out of it, since even i had to struggle with certain areas that are just really bugged, The ladders for example.
But exactly those bugs can help you to get through the levels quicker.

I used the Grenades on the Naga Boss Because after hitting him once he gets invincible for a few seconds, so i was looking for a way of inflicting as much damage as possible with one shot.

After killing The Naga Boss in the sanctuary level i fired another Grenade and then the cutscene kicked in where ophelia blasts through the wall. In exactly the same second the nade goes off and kills her lol. But still you cant get to it as youre in the cutscene. So that gave me the idea of grabbing the minigun from her.

This is How i got the minigun

After that i played the level again and saved during the cutscene and then loaded it up again, it plays the cutscene but then lets you run around before it finishes so i killed her and grabbed her minigun Cheesy

In the Speedrun i exploited just about every bug i found , except for one i think but i cant remember it. Eventhough this speedrun can still be improved alot its far from perfect.

As far as getting Blood 1 to be recorded:

My video card is such that I can output to a VCR, so I output the sound and video to a VCR and record from that.  To get it to fully work, though, I have to make the TV be the ONLY video source - a video card option, actually.  The only problem this poses is that I occasionally have problems seeing certain details, since I am deprived from using my more detailed computer monitor.

As far as single-segment not being the best time: Yeah, I'm aware a run done in one session will be farther from perfect than a run broken up into multiple parts.  There's a reason they have categories for both.  Tongue

As far as strafejumping: ....wait a minute, strafejumping's still useful in the Litchtech engine?  That's a new one to me, actually.  I'll have a look at this.
It was a very entertaining run to watch, even though it's not up to SDA standards. If you put the HQ version online, I'm certainly going to download it too.

I was surprised to see that straferunning still works in Blood 2. I had expected it to work in Blood 1, but not in Blood 2 anymore. Good find. And the trick with jumping over a fence from a monster was awesome.
Obey the Daleks or be Exterminated! Riiiiiiight...

Don't you mean Gabriella?  I thought Ophelia didn't appear until the third chapter.

Anyways, I wanted to watch the run, but it seems the link to it is down somehow.  I want to see how it turns out, even if it isn't by SDA standards.  I'll be looking forward to future attempts and will be one of my most anticipated runs (alongside Aquatiger's SS Ophelia run and Caleb segmented Hard run).

Of Course it was Gabriella youre right , that just lets you see that i dont even know this game properly lol

From what I've watched of the run, it's incredibly well played, despite the inconsistencies in health, ammo, and ward amount.  Some of the jumps are really crazy, especially the one in the last Chapter 1 level, and also the incredibly insane early Minigun trick as well.  Sure makes the rest of the game easier now.

Although I suggest ditching the Bug Sprayer and The Orb, as they are both useless in any situation.

EDIT:  Finally watched the entire run.  Quite a lot of impressiveness in there.  I'm in awe of the boss battles, the Behemoth in particular.  Now if the consistency was fixed, it would be much better.  Also, you don't have to count the loading screens or the ending as part of the total time.  All in all, 40 minutes of speedrun excellency.

EDIT 2:  Say, shouldn't there be an additional category?  I know the Minigun cannot be gotten in Chosen mode because cutscenes are not shown.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
While uploading my video i took the time to register at the site.

As i said i would try the run again and this time following the rules.
So far ive completed Chapter 1 in just about 10 minutes. I found even more bugs and shorcuts so i hope this little preview wont get boring for ppl who have already seen the first attempt.

Ive started the run with following settings.

Character : Ophelia
Difficulty  : Genocide

I was thinking of using a GUI enhancement in the following runs , this only makes the interface look better and weapon sounds more realistic. But just to be safe i wont , might be against the rules ?

Video

Size : 65,5 MB
Codec : Xvid  700/kbps
Audio : Lame 96/kb
Container :  AVI
Obey the Daleks or be Exterminated! Riiiiiiight...
I just watched the whole thing, and so far Chapter 1's play is much better than before, and I was in awe of the shortcut taken at the first part of the CAS Revenant (the airship), and going through the lasers in the Museum level with minimal damage.  I'm waiting to see how the rest of the levels will turn out.

GUI enhancements shouldn't really be used when speedrunning, so I would advise not using them in the run.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I finished the 2nd chapter in 8 minutes.

After i watched it i noticed that after the Level 6 ( the level with the boat)  in level 7(in the train)  i had less shield and HP than i had at the end of Level 6.

I wondered what happend and looked at the video frame by frame near the end and i couldnt find where something could have hit me , the last frame still indicated  that i had 103 HP 72 Shiled.

But then i noticed that in the last second both of the monsters infront of me shot the green acid fluid at me but they mustve hit me just one milisecond before the level was over , when my screen was already black. Thats the only way i can explain it to me.

Anyone else have any ideas ?

I wouldn't worry about that, because if the stat change could be seen in the split second with a program that can switch to a certain frame (like Virtualdub), then it shouldn't be a problem.  Heck, I'm sure the Fecal Matters level had SMG yet the previous ended with the knife.  That isn't a problem either, because weapons switch really fast anyways, and it wouldn't be much of a problem anyways.

So, I'm downloading the Chapter 2 part now.  Aquatiger, take note of some of the tricks in the run, despite it being done level per level.

EDIT:  Wow, I'm shocked.  Despite one pratfall at Meat Processing plant, the rest of the Chapter went really well.    I never thought that fence could be jumped through but you managed to do so.  Shame that the Shikari at the end was the reason for the stat problem.  Oh well.

It's quite odd that the time it takes to wait for the next chapter to start allows for you to reorganize the weapons and stuff.  I'm taking you're going to save space for the Minigun for when you actually find it, although it's possible to get one right before the final boss.

There won't be much of the game left routewise if you keep up the great work like that.  I'm willing to bet that Chapter 3 and 4 runs will be insane as Chapters 1 and 2 are right now.

EDIT 2:  Not sure, but I think there's a bit of interlacing in the movies so far, but those can be fixed by remaking the avis with the source avis having the deinterlacing filter on.

EDIT 3:  I notice you fire Die Bug Die on the Behemoth a couple of times without the loading animation.  I assume you took advantage of a bug that allows this.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Yes iam simply switching to another weapon and then back to skip the reload, i practically use that all the time ( with the sniper , shotgun ) you can use this bug with any weapon in the game.

The video is not interlaced because it was not recorded interlaced, the reason why you might get a blurry impression is due to the fact that the original video is recorded at 50 FPS. But the output video is 30 FPS so it tends to blur the frames into 30 instead of 50, maybe ill try to encode the nextone at 25 and see if this goes away.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Completing the Last 2 Chapter in 9 minutes, the total Runtime comes to 28 minutes.

Once again, really smooth playing, although it's too bad that Undead Gideon and Undead versions of the Chosen were skipped.  Somehow I also feel that the credits area is really hilarious, killing Caleb and the other chosen, then committing suicide by Voodoo doll XD

You really ought to contact Radix about the run and try to get it on SDA.  I'm sure many will really enjoy the run. Wink
Including me. That was really entertaining to watch. But it does seem like you're going out of your way for health a bit too much. In chapter 2 for instance, you do  a really cool jump from a zombie guy, but seemingly only to pick up some health.

I enjoyed the run immensly, regardless of that, so I would love to see it on SDA as well.

I must agree too that espcially in the last levels i tend to grab too much Shileds and stuff.
It was because i was worried i wouldnt have enough HP rushing through the levels and ending up in chapter 4 with only little health and no Shileds near by.

So it think the run can beaten easiely by anyone , for example stopping by to get the plasma was totally useless since i never used it only once by accident.

But anyway after sorting out the rest of the video i made a little tickjump video for blood 2 showing some of the tricks i found but which didnt end up saving time.

I can assure you everything you see was achived only by bug exploiting , no cheats whatsoever were used.
