Ok, some findings on the door clip thing

Can't find any other skips for E1, other then E1M4
Can't find any noticeable skips for E2

E3M2, clip through the Moon Key gate, to the room with the safe

E4M1, clip through the giant wooden door, which leads into the room with the Cultist around the table (This is quite tricky to pull off)
E4M2
The Key Eye skip is just the same skip as the doors, so just do the same thing.

E4M3, you can clip through the grey door on the right, when you exit the water (This is Armaaaa's finding)
The E4M4 clip mentioned by hotmultimedia, as well as the E4M6 one

E6M2, clip through the gates with the fire key behind it
E6M3, clip through the big wooden door near the start (leads to the room with the E1 boss and the door with the level exit)
E6M4, clip through the fenced gate, so you don't need to restore the power

These are the ones found so far, many of them saving a few seconds (expect for E1M4, E4M2 and E4M6, which can save a lot of time)
Still nothing found that can cut E1M6 and E6M7 time down massively.
^ I meant the grey doors to the LEFT for E4M3, not right
^ And the E4M4 clip, i meant the E3M4 clip (Hospital level)
Hi, do you guys still post here?

I bought this game from GOG.com some weeks ago and decided to do speedruns.

I'm doing single segmented all secrets runs (all chapters in one run, including plasma pack).

I've uploaded the route for the first two chapters on youtube. In these videos each level is a segment, but this route is actually used for single segmented runs (i just don't have any of them on youtube):
CH-1

CH-2

The videos are a bit too dark, but it's too late now. I'll try to upload the other chapters until the end of this week.

Anyway, probably a lot of improvements to be made to this route, feel free to tell me how much it sucks.
Mister Ripper, what are you doing in the beginning of that E4M2 video?

Getting the clip at the beginning of the level puts you straight into the room with the water tanks (as it's just above that area), it's quicker than running there.

The only problem is I can't find a way to make it consistent and often lose time instead of gaining any.
Hey guys,

Just picked up this game started running it. Got a pretty good time on EP1 (6:39). Using known tricks. Working on EP2 at the moment. Goal is single segment runs Smiley

3 New videos uploaded on our channel, 2 of them were reruns of Episodes 1 and 4 due to the new tricks found, and the other is a setup for a dynamite jump for E2M&

The Episode runs also have little notes that pop up at times that explains the tricks that was pulled off, to help out anyone willing to learn the run.

I have two questions that have always been bugging me. First off, would making a category that involves only beating the first four episodes of the One Unit: Whole Blood version without their secret levels in a single segment be acceptable, considering Post Mortem was an extra episode added in later versions? If there's already one, what is it called? And if it doesn't exist and it'd be fine to make it, what should it be called? Second, maybe it's just me, but I think I've seen runners who disable the CG cutscenes. Doesn't that involve modifying BLOOD.ini? Is that OK?

If you just want to do just the 4 original episodes minus the secret levels, go for it (If I recall, Duke 3D doesn't do The Birth or the secret levels in their normal speedruns). Not sure what to call it though, maybe something ultimately generic like Blood Speedrun or something.

But from my looking around about this game, it seems like Blood Pak also added other things to the game, such as

-The ability to use Tesla with Akimbo powerup
-Life Leech alt fire, but removed it's actual 'Life Leech' ability
-Changed the function of the Voodoo Doll (Old version used only 20 per use, but gets bugged when you switch from it)

Yes it does, and that can be a problem. The major reason for removing the cutscenes is that after the game plays so many cutscenes, it crushes to desktop due to DOSbox (The cutscenes adds barely any time to runs due to it being skip as soon it starts). I dunno how many it takes, but a normal run has 7 cutscenes (1Start, 1End, 2End, 3End, 4Start (DOSbox Bug), 4Map8Start and 4End). The problem however is that in BLOOD.ini, also involves the map list for each episodes. Like this:
Quote:
Title  = The Way of All Flesh
Map1    = e1m1
Map2    = e1m2
Map3    = e1m3
Map4    = e1m4
Map5    = e1m5
Map6    = e1m6
Map7    = e1m7
Map8    = e1m8

Now if someone actually change the number order in any way, the game then follows that new order. So if I changed Map2 = e1m2 to Map2 = e1m7, this will cause the game to go from Cradle to Grave straight to Altar of Stone.

So whatever if it's OK to just switch off the cutscenes, runs into the problem of someone may edit the level order in the meanwhile.
Alright guys, if you guys want to see some more blood action there are a few people who stream this game.

First there is myself, I stream either on twitch.tv/admiralsmit or hitbox.tv/Smit - currently learning to run a full game run, single segment for Marathon events. I really want this game to get some more exposure since its an awesome game to run and has loads of cool tricks and glitches/dynamite jumps.

Ezormer streams on twitch.tv/ezormer, he currently has all the individual episode records and the single segment episode 1 - 4 as well (I think so at least)

Cubeface21 streams on twitch.tv/cubeface21

Thanks to all the guys who keep finding these cool glitches, I hope I can stream them at a big event soon, maybe ESA next year (or winter edition, if thats happening)
Personal Text
Hey, I just started running this game so I thought I'd throw my channel out there. I'm not accustomed to FPS games on PC, so my movement is probably lacking. I have yet to do a full Ep. 1-4 run, still grinding out single episodes for now. my twitch channel is http://www.twitch.tv/lordofultima, and my youtube is . I guess I'll embed a random episode.

Hey all,  nice to see the interest in running Blood is still going strong.

I notice Cubeface has being running it pretty regularly as well:  http://www.twitch.tv/cubeface21/b/582548495

Cubeface and I started doing ILs recently, mostly on Lightly Broiled (Skill 3) and Extra Crispy (Skill 5). Progress is going pretty well, we are filling in a table at http://www.speedrun.com/Blood/individual_levels. I'm sure most of these are beatable since we just started, but I thought I would post about it if anyone is interested in submitting times.

As for the difficulties, Lightly Broiled is basically as fast as Still Kicking except for a few levels maybe, but most of the runs aren't as viable/fast on Skill 4. For the ones that are, that is where Extra Crispy runs come in.
Hi folks,

I'm interested in speedrunning this classic 1997 BUILD engine game, my intention was for a 100% kills/secrets run for each episode on the hardest skill 'Extra Crispy'. Their will have to be exceptions for maps wheir this isn't possible due to design flaws on behalf of the mappers with supplemental evidence to back this up.

This would be done with the last commercial release (1.21) and recorded through DOSBox via Bandicam and the x264/h264 codecs.

Are their any particular rules/factors I have to bear in mind before I proceed?

Thanks!
Could an admin combine with this thread: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/blood4.html

I noticed some levels (at least Cryptic Passage) have EXTRA secrets above the given count but I hope those are all well-documented somewhere. As per category - what you're intending to do is both 100% legitimate and 100% baller. If I had extra time that's exactly the way I'd be playing this game myself, but I still haven't even finished the playthrough of Cryptic Passage on said difficulty setting.

Make sure you've seen all the recent runs (and possibly older ones too) just to see you're not missing any skips or tricks.

Ah I didn't see that thread, my apologies feel free to close this one and move the posts to that thread as advised.

I think your referring to 'Super Secrets' they appear on a few set maps and are indicated on the statistics screen as a seperate bold red line of text. However I doubt I'll play Cryptic Passage as it's my least favourite episode in terms of gameplay and level design, plus I consider it non-canon as it wasn't by Monolith.

I've watched Cubeface's and Khulun's runs, although I don't see how speed tricks would be much use for Extra Crispy wheir you have to play slow in certain sections due to the huge accuracy and damage increase by Cultists.
Actually I mean Cryptic Passage can have secret counts like "You found 5/2 secrets". Also you don't like Cryptic Passage? I thought Plasma Pak was the less inspired one by some amount (though it's the one with the new enemies). Cryptic Passage has levels like the steam boat which are brilliant. I can't tell what's the best for speedrunning.

Getting super secrets is ofc part of the definition. I asked someone to merge the threads now.
The secret counter is known to break on certain maps, possibly due to repeated triggers.

Thanks to the wonders of an excellent search function I have recovered my argument on why Cryptic Passage sucks from a post on 'February 15th 2011'

'Cryptic Passage is borderline fucking heresy. Moronicly altruistic bundles of ammo littered without any due consideration for gameplay balance, x3 Voodoo dolls on 'Boat Docks' alone and the area encompassing the lighthouse has x5 Boxs of Shells? The near absense of armor poses a severe inhibitance to difficulty for all the wrong reasons, while their may be 'Life Essences' available on ground which in itself immediately strips away the aura of realism as they should be elicited from an eviscerated corpse, Cultists are commonly encountered at distances and cocooned corners effectively crippling any daring assault or quick draw slaughter aided by a preceding focus on movement mechanics, making cheap shots a fundamental danger.

The level design is rather dismal and quite tragic given the overbearing depth on aesthetics dominating gameplay priority, intoxicatingly linear funneled down a path with powerups elicited right in the open indicating a bastardly lazy attempt to cover up for an imbalanced ratio between enemies and items. It appears the developers had the essence of 'Doom' or another fiasco 'Build game' in mind when manifesting this befuddling conundrum of nonsense, abandoning the essence of strategically placed enemies with combat around every corner and the aesthetics hinting towards theme for the human mind to ponder.'

Okay. Now calm down a bit.
Or you can chillax and not interpret an assertive post in an exaggerated manner which is actually from an archived post 4 years ago.

A fundamental question I have is are their core rules between when you should start recording and when you should end? I was thinking start from the main menu just before selecting the episode and skill, then stop recording when the credits roll after beating an episode.
Start from main menu for sure and showing the end cinematic is not a bad idea but don't have to see whole credits.
Nice one bud, thank you very much for your help so far.

Just a note about the first critical glitch, on E1M3: 'Accessing the super secret of Phantom Express will adjust the kill count incorrectly and break it, but this is unavoidable.'

I can't speak of the rest of Episode 1 for this time being, I'll research further when I get time but just to let other players and judges know of specific bugs which can otherwise make a run look flawed.
I think there's other players who can make verification easier in this case, but detailed notes always help.

I asked yet another admin to merge the threads so maybe it's happening now Smiley
Alright here's the scope on E1M3's Super Secret glitfching the kill count, it spawns 2 Innocents when you retrieve it, but they don't count towards the kill count, so as long as your 2 below the max amount you should be good.

'There is a problem with this level as far as the super secret goes. Because two innocents spawn when you get the goods in the super secret, your kill count seems to be increased by two, but killing the innocents doesn't satisfy the count. What I'm saying is that you'll always be two kills short of the maximum. But don't worry, it's just a glitch. If you're two below the kill count, you got all of those bastards!'
