I can't download ANY videos fom the "Archive" pages (Archive U.S. and Archive Europe). Everytime I try and start a download about 2 seconds of sound appears, and then Quicktime says "Quicktime is missing information. Unfortunately, the information is not available on the Quicktime server."

I know for a fact that I have DivX codec installed.

Downloads work everytime from fileplanet. But, since the majority of videos are only available from the "Archive" pages, I'm at a loss.

Can someone please tell me what's wrong?

Are you using a mac? If not why subject yourself to the horrors that is quicktime on windows? If you are ... then I don't know. Are you SAVING the file before you try to play it?

I'm also in the process of completely removing the fileplanet links ....

Wait, I think I know what's going on... the archive links go directly to the avi file instead of a waiting list/download screen, so your browser is trying to open the avi. You have to right-click (or option(?) click on a Mac) and click "save link as..." or some equivalent phrase. Not sure if that's how it works in Safari... especially know that I've been hearing the latest versions of Mac OS X trying to shunt every media file through iTunes and/or Quicktime...

I suggest you get rid of quicktime, or at least change the .avi extension back to mplayer2.exe or something else. And definitely save it to disk first, most players can't play .avi as they're downloading anyway.

Not only most...
Even virtual dub is making a fuss if you try to load a partial avi and will spend a good minute of recovering frame information.

Yes, but then vdub can play it. The reason is that the index of the avi is store at the end.
for partially downloaded .avis use AviPreview http://www.avipreview.com/download.htm to play them. it works if the avi header is found with the fourcc intact, then it knows what codec it is.. works for me Smiley (in most cases, ie not downloading from the beginning of the file makes it .. you know what)
