Found out a glitch in the Pink Monkey Fight. When she goes to part 2 if you deal the final blow as she hits you, it knocks you out of the idle animation that you would normally have and you can just net her a few secs early.
Also found out a few things about the actual Final Battle.
- Normal Ammo can hit the throne and knock Specter off. The Rocket ammo can too, it just has a longer hit animation. I'd recommend normal ammo for the start and then using Rocket Ammo when he recovers so that you can easily knock him off.
- Specter has 2 phases: Throne and Ground Phase. Throne Phase is what he starts with, and Ground Phase occurs if he recovers from a hit on the throne.
- Specter will go to Ground Phase automatically after approx 4~5 Magic Punches. He will be catchable in this part after 1 Magic Punch
- Specter's Ground Phase, contrary to popular belief, has 2 attacks that leave him open. There's the Shadow Clone Jutsu he pulls, but the giant explosion attack he does has a window of vulnerability that is actually more consistent than praying you hit the correct clone. I forgot when he's open during it but I might be able to check soon.
And I don't know if this is just me but when Robo-Monkey 2 in Final Battle with Specter! uses the Fist Drop twice, it is actually faster. This is because he HAS to use each move at least once, I think. Therefore if you get him to do it once at the end, he winds up hitting 8 platforms. BUT if you get him to do it once at the start and again later on, he will only break 2 and 4 platforms respectively. Add in the start ups and it's around the same time as the one time drop spread out over 2 attacks. This makes for a much faster battle.
As to more Any%2 stuff I found
Punch is better than the Club in every way. Even the wheel is easier with the punch, And most bosses die in 2-3 hits. Much much much better Club.
I personally hate Liberty Island because of that stupid 3rd Monkey. He always seems to be on the left side when I start a run, and it's bullshit. At least all I lose from a reset is ~40 seconds invested.
Port Calm 1 is actually better for you to get the monkey on the fountain. streamlines the return trip
Castle Frightmare goes backwards through the level and skips the first white pants in favor of getting every monkey after the banana slicers. This makes the return a bit less worrying.
Vita Z goes through the normal Any% route so that the last 2 monkeys are quick
Enter the Monkey took a small tweak to make sure the return is good with the meditating red pants and the one in the giant pot. Other than that it's not that different
Panic Pyramid is the same as Any%1 but it gets the hidden special monkey instead of using Air Climb to get the one in the pyramid. Both paths are much faster from this change, though doing the return trip is very odd.
Pirate Isle is hell. That's all I'll say. I can't craft a master route for it, but if someone else does, all I have to say is you're doing the speedrunning gods' work. Same goes for Land of the Apes
Skyscraper City requires the Elevator unlock before completing the level. adds on a good minute to the Any%1 route, but it saves a load of time on the return trip.
Theory crafted a Moon Base 1 route for NG+ Any%2, gets the first 5 monkeys before specter to perfect the return trip
Simian Citadel 2 is a lot of luck. Stupid wizrobe monkey.
Code CHIMP is really weird when I explored it. There are hidden platforms everywhere in that level, and if you get all the way up to where you would go fight yellow monkey, it unlocks the shortcut to the lab area with 3 gunner monkeys. Other than that, speedrunning the level isn't too bad if you can remember where everything is
Also on a side note, anyone know if it's faster to do all monkeys asap (after finishing the stage) or to just wait it out until you beat Specter?
