Gets the cake.
I'm reviving this thread to post that I'm working on this run. I actually intend to work on a run worthy of the site, as opposed to other games where I was mostly interested in assisting with planning. I just recorded a sub-30min practice run of chapter 1 with a few deaths, and I'll have that posted here as quickly as I can.

I have yet to work on the other chapters, though I will be planning my route based on TheVoid's videos and any skips I may find while gathering the rest of the collectibles I need. If anyone wants to help, feel free to join in =P

is the link, the video just finished uploading so it's still processing. Not sure when it will be fully up. Also I had a ton of deaths and other mistakes, so expect that. After my Diff Eq. class in just a moment, I'll run through the video and calculate the time I think I can save by not making mistakes and estimate a target time for this level. Then I'll begin work on Chapter 2 =P

I hate blockbuster since they don't have alice madness returns...  Meanwhile I'm trying to win an auction on eBay to get the game for under $35 (I need to get rid off a few gift cards I got for eBay)...  I've just been wanting to play this game for a while and I've been waiting for the price to drop...  As soon as I get a win, I'll be sure to check the game out and I will hopefully consider a speed run in this game, so until I get the game, you will have my support zqmb0bw4y...

I do stuff
Topic kinda dead, but I just recently got the game and I'm currently on my first run through on new game+.  Totally loving this game.  I'm in chapter 5 and found this little shortcut after a bit of inspiration from watching quite a few of TheVoid's videos.  So here is my single contribution (for now).

Gets the cake.
Alright, so I haven't updated recently, but for a couple of reasons. 1, I haven't been playing much recently, and 2, every time I do play I find more skips, so I'm hesitant to even post a route video at this point. I've also decided to change my run category in the interest of personal sanity, to single-segment full game run on easy, not new game+ IL runs on nightmare.

That's pretty much it for now, I'll try to make an update when I am sure that my route for at least the first chapter isn't going to change drastically.

Single-segmenting the game with all the skips and stuff? Good luck dude! Smiley Will be tricky to get a clean run.

And I should really finish that chapter 5 compilation video... I actually only need to record the last dollhead part, which is optional because it's not a shortcut or anything Tongue I just wanted to include going fast through those kind of minigame things.
I've recorded a similar shortcut of that, Deign, but your method is a little faster.

Thank you so much for those compilation videos. They were IMMENSELY helpful in finding tricks that I wouldn't even think to look for. Also, I became very consistent with the 5th "hop" trick, by binding space to a button on my mouse as well as the keyboard button. It allows me to hit space while holding space, resulting in a much larger window of timing. This consistency allows me to do stuff like skip fighting the first menacing ruin, skip some random clock-switches, etc. Just wait until you see my updated chapter 1 run! ^_^

PS if you finished that chapter 5 run, I'd be ecstatic. I can't stress how helpful those have been to my progress!

edit: also, since you brought it up, the single-segment is why I'm switching to easy difficulty. I'm actually way more consistent with the skips than I am with any fighting segments =(

edit again: since I don't want to update progress without a video, here's a video of my chapter 1 route.
Route looks good. It's funny that you found some new shortcuts of which I'm sure I checked myself but they somehow didn't work for me back then (Like getting on/over the door in the bigger dwarf battle or however those guys were called, or with the first Menacing Ruin, or after the elevator with the waterfall things), oh well, cool stuff.

A guy on nicovideo used shrink to stop a dodge to get around corners more quickly, you could try getting used to doing that.

And yeah your fighting could be improved a little bit. I also seem to recall that once you've shot a teapot, then slash at it 2 times and wait a short moment (After the second hit the teapot would go like "Hey, you hit me!" to a "I'm exhausted..." moment ;)), then slash 2 times again and wait a short moment, then slash 2 times again to kill it. I could remember it wrong though.
Also try to use the clockwork bomb a little more since it deals a bit of damage as well (For example when a little black dude starts coming out of the ground, or use it in groups).
You also walk away from the bomb every time you use it to destroy a wall, why not just keep hugging the wall?

I'm actually a little worried about your "consistent hop method" because from within the game it's not possible to bind a function to two keys, therefore it requires editing a INI file. If you want to get this run on SDA (Which I hope you will) then you should talk to Flip about that first just to be sure it's accepted here on SDA.

When you encounter the very first teapot and then after that at the handle to get the steam up, can you jump on a little box next to it on the left and then up onto the platform? Maybe you can barely make it? You also fought an invisible enemy up there Cheesy That was odd.
After this room you need to get on the button to lower the elevator. It's possible to jump between 2 of those waterfall thingies onto the button, it's pretty narrow and 1 hit from those things kills you, but it's possible.

Keep pumping out videos (I guess chapter 1 is pretty much finished now though), looking forward to more!

And I promise I shall finish that chapter 5 video soon!

Didn't know about the shrink bit, I'll have to play around with that.

My fighting is pretty bad, I try to skip most of it but sometimes it's impossible. I think I know the teapot trick you're talking about, I've had it happen a couple times accidentally.

Walking away from the wall is just habit for some reason. Perhaps I play too much zelda?

The rebinding I do for the hop method is with the driver software for my mouse. Perhaps you're right and it is against the rules, now that I think about it, because it is technically a 3rd party program running in the background, but all it does is change it so that when I press one of the thumb buttons on my mouse, it sends "space" to the computer. So I didn't edit the files of the game, but like I said it is a driver thing, so that might be against the rules =/

I've tried that box skip a couple times, but never made it. Another thing that I was hopeful of is that you can just jump all the way across the room to the end platform. I made it once, but the door is closed, and when you kill the teapot from range it just drops you back down onto the platform that it spawns on =(

Also, that invisible enemy was a teapot. It's possible to skip the trigger for them to "appear" by jumping down onto the lower platform after you kill the first teapot REALLY quickly, and when that happens they're invisible and don't move and can't kill you. I have to find a more consistent method to do that, because it makes that section much faster.

Thanks for the feedback! It really helps ^_^

edit: Checked with Vopeju on the SDA IRC, and he says it's fine. I'll doublecheck with Flip via PM to be certain, though.

Gets the cake.
Updating, I finally got around to practicing chapter 3 a few times, and I'm going to start work on chapter 4. Chapter 3 is honestly very easy, it's just long and boring, with the chance that the skips will completely kill your run by wasting 5+ mins if you miss a jump.

In the meantime, I've started a basic timetable for what I would consider to be an acceptable run by my standards for the chapters. This does not mean that if I hit these goals in a real run, I would submit it, but rather it just means that I would be happy with my progress up to that point.

Chap. 1 = :30
Chap. 2 = 1:00
Chap. 3 = 1:40

Not entirely certain on the other two, since I haven't gotten around to practicing them yet. Chap 3 time is the most subject to change, because I still mess up the sidescrollers and make stupid mistakes.

TheVoid, do these times go along with what you've found? I know chapter 3 is the longest one, unfortunately, but 42 mins still seems way longer than the others...

Yeah that seems about right.
Chapter 4 should be like 22 minutes or so, but it contains many little tricks and stuff Wink

Gets the cake.
Just did a full-game run, took 2:55. I can definitely improve this, by a good deal as well. I think over the next 1-2 weeks I'd like to improve this to a 2:45 at the very least, and hopefully push for 2:35. I'm not yet sure what I would consider a submittable run, I would have to have a larger sample size to decide what a "good" run is.

Once I hit a 2:45, I'll start recording my runs and save the files of the best one. That way, if something miraculous happens, I can have a record of it. =)

I forgot to save my wsplit, but I think my splits for the segments were roughly this:

Chap. 1 = 0:33
Chap. 2 = 1:06
Chap. 3 = 1:45
Chap. 4 = 2:10
Chap. 5 = 2:50
Chap. 6 = 2:55
Nice

A good run is one where you don't fuck up anything Wink

Now I should really get working on that chapter 5 compilation video...

Well, a perfect run would be where I don't fuck up anything. Between now and then, I'd like to get a couple "good" runs, where I make only minimal mistakes =P

That said, I wouldn't submit anything other than a perfect run. This is a great game with tons of impressive tricks, and I want it to be represented well on SDA. If I'm not good enough to produce such a run, I'll wait and let someone else (like you, nudge nudge) do it =P

Sweet! Progress!  I love it.  I'm super excited to see a run for this game.  Also I thought the shrink/dodge movement stuff was obvious or I woulda mentioned it ><  I did do it at the end of my video when traveling down the hallway =P
I really need to finish my new game+.  I stopped in the middle of chapter 5 cause I got dungeon defenders and that has been sucking up all of my time.  I'm still like 20 items away from 100%

Can't wait to watch your level 1 segment after I finish up some of my own obligations.  I'll comment again after watching.

Edit: Great stuff, seriously great stuff =D  Now I'm even more excited.  Only a few places where the quad jump failed, but I personally would find that understandable.

The quad jump can be kinda random, but since that video I've sorta figured out how to make it more consistent (at least a little bit). As TheVoid said before in an earlier post, there will definitely be some movement errors in even an incredible run, just due to the nature of the 3D movement and the funky camera. Hopefully I can iron out some of those jumps though, there are some rough ones.

Also, that skip you found was very helpful to me when running chapter 5, so thanks for that ^_^

I'd love to be of more help, but I think you and TheVoid have already done all the work =P

Updating with my run from tonight that I streamed.

Chap. 1 = 0:30:07
Chap. 2 = 1:03:21
Chap. 3 = 1:43:12
Chap. 4 = 2:06:17
Chap. 5 = 2:42:56
Chap. 6 = 2:46:38 (Final time)

This was overall a good run, but it makes me suspect that 2:30 is definitely possible.

I've uploaded the chapter 5 video here. Ditched the dollhead parts though, they're not really that special anyway. And I wanted to quickly show this video to you since you're seriously busy with it now Smiley Also some of those shortcuts can be better optimized. Looking forward to the run!

I'll be streaming here in just a moment to test out some of the skips that TheVoid posted, and my link is Twitch.tv/z1mb0bw4y

Edit:

I'm editing because I'm sure bumping as frequently as I do is against some kind of rule, but the run I just streamed was MUCH faster due to TheVoid's new Chap. 5 shortcuts! =D

Chap. 1 = 0:30:17
Chap. 2 = 1:02:15
Chap. 3 = 1:41:17
Chap. 4 = 2:05:01 (I messed up basically every single skip in this one exactly once, and then got it the second time. Was really frustrating.)
Chap. 5 = 2:34:32 (A whopping 6 minutes faster from TheVoid's skips! <3)
Chap. 6 = 2:38:05 (Final time)

As I said before, 2:30 is definitely possible for a NG SS easy run. I need to polish up the tricks in Chap. 4, and get better at the tricks in Chaps 2 and 5 and I think I'll be golden.
For some reason I can't put a Reply to you guys on YouTube...

The shortcut at 9:40 could maybe be done better, depends on the timing of the retracting thingy. From the babyhead you can jump backwards onto a platform and from there on the part with the destructable wall. If you get in this place when the retracting thingy is (About to) retracted, then that method should be faster. I needed to wait in the video Smiley Maybe you can already jump when the retracting thingy is completely retracted, but scissors are tricky...

I can't remember who linked it or how I found it, but I thought it was from here.  I was wrong so I thought it'd be a good idea if this video was linked to for future reference.  A strat for killing the last boss quickly on higher difficulties.  Doesn't appear to be a problem to one round the last boss on easy though.

I posted a link to that video in post #7 of this thread Wink I shall put a link to it in the first post as well.

Figure I'll bump the thread with some stuff, I guess.

I'm still working on Alice, especially since I'll be playing the game at the upcoming summer marathon. I've been focusing on NG+ easy SS runs, because that's what's the most fun for me. My current personal best is 2:23:43, which you can find video of at my most recent stream on my twitch page (twitch.tv/z1mb0bw4y). I'm going to try to find a method of recording without screwing up my FPS and post the resulting run here at somepoint. Maybe I'll get lucky and my marathon run will be very good and I can submit that to SDA =P

edit: Here's a link to the twitch video of my last stream. It doesn't include chapter 1 because my stream crashed at some point, but it's complete from the start of chapter 2 onwards. http://www.twitch.tv/z1mb0bw4y/b/316462921
