Never give up!
Okay, I'll be honest, my inability to master the tricks involved in Quake speedrunning has prevented me from filling in the last two holes in the Rogue level chart (those being the second episode marathon and the 'all of Rogue' marathon, both runs on Nightmare skill).

I was originally going to mention this project idea after I did those, but since it may be a couple of years before I can finish those two (and I'd stop immediately if someone else completed both of those two runs, as the need to fill those voids is my motivation to try), I'm going to speak up now.

When thinking of a project revolving around the Rogue expansion to Quake - commonly known as Dissolution of Eternity - my original concept involved a 'bush-league' run.  Basically, what that meant was that you were only allowed the axe and the single-barrel shotgun.  Kind of like Quake done Chopped, except I don't foresee being able to use just the axe for all of Dissolution of Eternity.  However, the prospect of having to face the Dragon, this expansion's end boss, with just these two weapons is daunting to say the least (I've convinced myself that there HAS to be a way to do it, though).

Thus, I'm going to keep it simple and ask if there is a chance that Dissolution of Eternity will get its own 'done Quick' run.  (I call it 'Dissolution Done Deftly' because I see an informal naming convention and chose to use it, not because of the alliterative potential.)

Would I try to contribute if such a run were attempted?  It's possible, but I highly doubt I could beat out most runners skill-wise.

I now turn this open for thoughts on this matter.

Mumma
One problem with Dissolution of Eternity is that it is terrible in all ways but one.

You won't have an easy time finding runners.
I've started running this expansion. Using the ending stats from r1m2, I've gotten r1m4 down to 0:33, and r1m5 down to 0:50 (no demos yet, I've been using saved games). They can go lower, for sure, I just wanted to see how much they could be improved. A couple of seconds each with better luck, I guess.

I left r1m3 for the moment, but if a second is saved here (using the YA from r1m2 for boosts), a second will probably be lost in r1m4 because then you'd have to get the GA, like in mwh's record. It evens out, either way.

Anyway, that's what I've gotten so far.

Well I got 0:50 on r1m5 halfway through a marathon once (my 8:47 doe1 ER) so I'd hope so :-) I probably had the RA from the end of r1m4, but maybe that's worth getting.

Also you should have some lava nails left over from r1m1 for r1m2, should make the start a bit quicker/easier.  Oh, and I'm sure you could improve the r1m1 ER if you put your mind to it, I got 1:15 about a week after the current record got set.

I'm a bit confused here -- how can you _not_ get the GA in r1m4?

I know I can't match your running, but I'd like to see your demos -- I might be able to think up a tweak or two :-)

If you beat my r2m2 in the project, I will commit suicide.
18 to the diablo2 holy grail
if you've looked over the tables you'll know I'm one of the biggest runners back in the day of DoE, and as it happens i've finally burnt out on D2 for a while and i'm looking for a bit of a gaming replacement...

Everyone that knows DOE ep2 KNOWS that the NR is just a NH missing the odd kill and secret and since i've proven i can do the NH with a bit of persistence I can and .. probably (*touchwood*) will fill the holes Tongue I have wanted to for ages anyway.

in terms of a qdq style project as mentioned it hasn't happend for a few reasons, almost no runners like it, its more challenging to play as its tougher and no secrets to really cut big chunks out. (with the odd exception)

i was also thinking, we have had various quake done quick, scourge was done slick, this could be "dissolution done a decade later" Wink

also one thing i was trying before I got stuck into diablo2 was there was a little talk that doe is more suited to 100% (but keep working on your ER) that would be good.

I have a while back equaled fleckys r1m1 EH time, I was going to beat it one day but didn't get around to it then go from there.
I thought I'd let you guys know what's happening so far with this attempt.

It's been a long time since I last attempted r1m6 (I took a break from the project after I couldn't equal the SP time for this map and I had enough of the frustration), so all I can do is recount the horrible memories when I got these times.

r1m1_114. It stands at Daniel's record. I've been asked to improve this record, but I haven't touched 1:14 yet. I'm happy to just equal it and leave with more lava nails because they are king Tongue I don't know how much more it can be improved.

r1m2_121. I'll leave it as it is. I will not run this map again Smiley

r1m3_016. It stands at Kay's SP record. I'll need all the health and armour for r1m4.

r1m4_032. Ugh. The first boost is one of the worst I've ever done, and it doesn't let up for the entire map! I'll get it down to 30, and that's it Tongue

r1m5_044. It was the little things that made this hard. One more second, for sure. Any more is a sweet bonus Smiley

Progress ends at r1m6, for now. I couldn't find much use for the RL aside from RJ-ing up the elevator chutes and some funny bunnies to the graveyard. One second, maybe two, could be saved from this map.

I'll post again when I finish ep1. Ep2 will probably suffer because the stats from ep1 are immediately carried over to r2m1, not reset.
Glad to hear things are continuing!  30 on r1m4 sounds pretty fast :-)
i started a "speedrun" of dissoultion of eternity yesterday i plan to post it on youtube when its done under the title "dissoultion done shit"
it will be about 30m-60m long
