I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I've been catching up on missed live runs at the charity marathon, and I just wanted to say this race has been my favorite to witness of any speed run race.  It was CLOSE between Rom and Sat . . . not knowing the game well enough, I was wondering whether Rane would have come out #1 in the race had he survived after pulling off that frame perfect glitch, or was Satoryu already too far ahead?  Amazing, nonetheless.  That other difficult skip to pull off all three of you did quite quickly, it was just so exciting seeing Rom and Sat toe to toe finishing only within seconds of each other (in most races they end usually up to minutes apart, so not nearly as exciting), but to think Rane pulled off a live show of a frame perfect skip only to die immediately afterwards . . . ugh if he had done that and survived and won the race, I think that really would be the best speed run race of all time that could never be topped lol

nonetheless, just had to stop by the forum to give a specific shoutout to that run/race for being so fucking epic! Smiley  An absolute thrill for me to watch, and I haven't even played the game!

You should play SOTN and get into the SOTN community, it's really cool.

Yeah, this race was pretty intense haha. Smiley
Visually Appealing
Thanks a lot rayrox. SotN was really fun at AGDQ. Though I'm still kinda salty that I just missed sub9 clock.

If Rane nailed the trick, it definitely would've been an even closer race.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
oh yeah that was the other thing that was really intense!!  how close you were to getting in for the sub 9 clock Smiley  I hadn't even remembered that when making this post!

Though honestly with you pulling that off ahead of Romscout, it wouldn't have been a close race and thus less exciting, so I prefer it this way or that you both managed a sub 9 clock . . .

and then for Rane to come out of WTF Nowhere with an impossible stupidly difficult glitch and beat you both . . . man, if that had happened, I would have built a shrine to RANE out of principle lmao

yeah Kryal, the game looks sweet, I should probably get it eh?  Hmmm maybe . . . I'll have to check on the price, I'll bet it's come down a lot over time.  So many great games to play, so little time!  lol  Honestly, I'm psyched about Shogun 2 Total War as far as games go.  Not something that works for speedrunning, really, I'm just a huge fan of the series Smiley

thanks for the replies, and honestly Satoryu before the marathon yours was one of the SDA names I did not recognize, but now to me you're among the video game gods Smiley  many kudos to your skills as a gamer.  Live runs are my favorite to watch.  The way I see it, anyone with an incredible amount of patience and too much time on one's hands can eventually deliver a perfect or near perfect run, but only the best players can do it consistently enough that they can go on to impress the masses under pressure in a live stream.

And for such a good cause as fighting cancer in that particular marathon!  incredible!  Who would have thought gamers would go so out of their way to turn their passion into something so good for the world?  I love how SDA inadvertently shapes the image of video gamers to fight the stereotype that we are all merely nerds hiding from society living in our parents' basement playing video games all the time.  Thanks for coming out for such good causes and being so awesome!  I mean that very sincerely to everyone who participates in SDA charity marathons.

You can get SoTN for 800 MSP if you have a Xbox360. The PS1 version goes for a fair bit on ebay, at least.

that Metroidvania guy
Yea even though I lost (a lot of it was just wing smash failure, need to learn that dpad since I'm so used to a joystick on XBLA version), this was one of my most fun moments for the marathon. Thanks for the shoutout, I'm glad some people were impressed by the overall play. I don't do this as much anymore due to a busy school schedule, but if you like watching live races then I usually do some with Rane, MarkSoupial, Tiki, and others on my stream (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/romscout-live ) on SotN, MM9, Super Meat Boy, and other games. There's also a lot of Super Mario 64 and LttP races on Jiano's stream (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/jiano ). It's a shame Satoryu hasn't jumped in on the streaming thing yet, but oh well. Follow that ustream page or check the w00ty page to see when streams are happening.

I'd also highly recommend trying the game yourself. It's $10 on XBLA and PSN, or if you don't have a current gen console then the Greatest Hits version of the PS1 disc usually goes for like $25-35 online. If you end up liking it enough to try learning to play for speed, Rane and I are always willing to teach people stuff.

The Rocket Knight Adventures race was really close too, but unfortunately mike89's footage seems to have been lost so you can't even see the winner's side of things lol. I would recommend watching that anyway even if you don't know the game. It was pretty close/intense as well.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Heya Rom,

It may annoy (I'm hoping it amuses you instead) you that the memory I best associate with you because it had me in stitches laughing I thought it was so funny was your classic games done quick run of Super Mario RPG when it was soo late at night you were so tired you get to this one point up in the cloud city and you couldn't remember if you had talked to the king, but you were pretty sure you had not, so you run aaaallllllll the way back through the palace to the throne room, talk to king and queen only to confirm you DID remember to talk to them and simply wasted a couple of minutes in the process because you were so ready to go to sleep and your brain seemed to have stopped working  Smiley

Don't worry though!  I've seen you do many impressive things and I'm thinking it's got to be a rarel breed of speed runner who has the mental stamina and sense of route planning to do RPGs, but also the fast paced twitch gaming skills to also be able to handle more action paced games as you no doubt do both!  You and Essentia seem to have that in common and I must say the diversity of games you can speedrun impresses me to no end.

Thank you for the links!  I hope I catch them when you guys are racing because those are definitely fun to watch as they happen live, especially if it's a good close race.

Rocket Knight Adventures is an amazing game I grew up with and I was thrilled to see it on the game list for this latest marathon.  I look forward to getting around to watch it eventually Smiley

As for buying SoTN, PSN would be my option as I've never owned an Xbox.  Maybe some day!  I just know I'm in no rush as I have so many other games I'm enjoying at this time.  Good hearing from you ROM!
